Local family grateful for help in caring for loved one Kid’s
If the Home Health nurses and the rehabilitation unit at Ohio Valley Manor (OVM) ever wondered about the impact they have on peoples’ lives, Lois Collins will be happy to let them know. Because of them, her beloved husband of fifty-four years, Cecil, is being cared for in their home. Cecil spent some time at the OVM Short-Term Rehabilitation unit before returning to his home. “With the help of OVM Nursing staff I've been able to keep Cecil at home where he wants to be” said Lois Collin. “Without these girls he wouldn't be at home still today.” Cecil, nor Lois, wanted him to go to a nursing home, if at all possible. He wanted to remain in his farmhouse where he and his wife have lived for 37 years and raised their family. He passes his time putting puzzles together that Lois frames for him. Three of those puzzle pictures now adorn the walls of the OVM Home Health office. “I have called Pam or Lisa many times with questions. They are always very helpful. Without their help and support, things would be very different, I just couldn't do this,” Lois explained. Pam Kelch, an OVM Home Health nurse said, “This is a wonderful service that we can offer. It gives families and the patient another option. If they want to be cared for at home, we make that happen. We educate and inform the caregiver on the medications and care, and then are there 24/7 for any questions or concerns. We visit as often as needed to make it a viable situation for all involved. And of course, the caregiver is extremely important. Cecil is very lucky to

They also keep any other nurses that may be working that particular case well informed as to any changes in the patient and/or concerns the family may have with their care and condition. “The teamwork between the girls is amazing. Knowing they are behind us gives me peace of mind. I can whole heartedly recommend both OVM Rehabilitation and Home Health,” Lois stated. “It’s hearing this kind of feedback that makes our jobs so worthwhile and gratifying,” said Lisa Griffey, the
other nurse helping the Collins. “Knowing I am making a difference in the lives of these people, the patient and the caregivers, that is what keeps me going every day. This is the overall attitude that exists at OVM in all areas of their healthcare. I’m proud to work at such a caring place.” Ohio Valley Manor, Inc. is located North of Ripley, Ohio on U.S. Highway 62 and 68. Providing Better Tomorrows, OVM healthcare options include: Outpatient Rehabilitation and Wellness, Home Health, Short-term Rehabilitation, Assisted Living Community, Memory Care and Long-term Care.
