weather so far. Clermont was hot Monday and Tuesday. Then they had rain on Wednesday. Cooling off Thursday; it really was great weather for us and a large turnout of people. Hope the trend for good weather lasts through the last week of September and the Little State Fair. We visited with Tom and Lori Cornwell and met some of the directors. Tom and I talked to Brent Bair who sells french fries and lemonade at fairs including ours. He told stories about past fairs and experiences he has had through the years. The Antique Machinery Show was our next stop. Went on Thursday and enjoyed a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich from the Knights of Columbus in Fayetteville. Our friend and fellow director Mitch Erwin and his friends really get you looking forward to the Brown Co. Fair, food wise. Harold and Betty Manning were there with their homemade ice cream and there was fresh corn on the cob too. They had a bigger flea market and the parade and all the old ways of making things instead of buying

Congratulations to the Adams Co. Agricultural Society. All their hard work really showed in the improvements and appearances of the fairgrounds. You could feel a new pride and excitement with a job well done. Got to meet Barb and Steve Rader at the fair; they have the concession tent at the Brown Co. Fair with the cooked pig out front. They have a busy schedule this summer but look forward to being at the 163rd Brown Co. Fair. After packing up Saturday night, they were heading for the Clermont Co. Fair starting Sunday. We went to the Clermont Co. Fair on Thursday. The fairs are really having good

them. Events coming up include the Bluegrass Festival; Highland Co. Fair; the Winchester Caramel Festival; the Seaman Fall Festival and starting September 22 the Brown Co. Fair. A question that I'm asked a lot. Is the Brown Co. Fair the last county fair of the year? No, there are 4 more fairs after ours and Fairfield Co. Fair is the last. We wished a happy birthday to Becky Cropper in late July. Becky has been a caring, guiding, helpful, and special person for Brown Co. Extension since 1978. 30 years she took on 4-H here in Brown Co. My memory of Becky is talking Clyde Taylor, Tom Wendel, Roger Barricklow, and myself into a adult style review. It was never done again and if you see the picture she has, you'll know why. There are 840 young adults in 35 4-H clubs in Brown Co Extension this year. 1 out of 6 Brown Co. youth have been involved in a 4-H program. There are 3 and 4 generations of families here who have proudly been part of Extension. Over 200 volunteers give their time, money, and experience back to Brown Co. Local businesses; our two newspapers; the radio stations; and civic groups give services, time, money, and support to Brown Co. Extension each year. Why? Extension costs only a few cents each day to keep a young person in a 4-H program. They learn hand-on experiences and acquire essential life skills and values. In contrast, it costs $100.00 a day to keep a youth in a regional juvenile facility. Help the kids of Brown Co. get into a Extension program instead of juvenile court. We also have the new Brown Co. Fair book to distribute all over the county. Mentions of the fair book go back to the early 1900's and have been a collector item for years. This is also a way for you to get your applications for camper spots, talent show entry, and all the new things that you'll see at the Little State Fair. Page 46 of the fair book has a new entry in the Floral Hall. Fall and winter in Ohio can be cold and rainy. Perfect time for your favorite bowl of Chili. Saturday the 27th bring your favorite home-made chili and compete for prizes of $70; $50; and $20. Please read all the rules for entries at the Floral Hall and with over 5000 entries please be patient and have your entries in early. Classic Federal Credit Union is sponsoring a contest to show our appreciation for all the fire-fighters, EMT's, and police officers in Brown Co. They will have a booth at the fair. There you can vote for the person or persons that you feel deserve recognition. Saturday in the Center Ring somewhere around 5 or 6 o'clock they will recognize the winners. We are going to provide a link on our Website to give more information about this contest. For now you can look up www.classicfcu.org and find their link for this contest. All of the Brown Co. Agricultural Society are very proud of the fairgrounds appearance the week of the fair and all year long. Nancy Connor has worked all year keeping it showroom perfect. This said we have a request that you do not tape blankets, flags, or towels on the bleachers. This is the Tractor Pull area; the Grandstand area, Floral Hall; or seats in the Danny Gray Activity center. This is everyone's fair to enjoy and please help us keep it neat and clean at the Little State Fair. If you have any questions about the fair, look on our website at www.littlestatefair.com. Like us on Facebook at littlestatefair. Our E-Mail address is: brcofair@hotmail.com. Telephone number: 937-378-3558 and fax number is: 937-378-1361. The 163nd Brown Co. Fair will be held on September 22rd through the 27th. Your memories start when we see you at the fair.

Wilmington is a mixture of old town charm, a college town, and new shopping section East of town. I had a little difficulty finding the fairgrounds and Lottie was quick to let me know I was going the wrong way on a one-way street. We were visiting the Clinton Co. Fair and our adopted daughter (she doesn't know) Greta Gray. Greta is a new fair board director in Clinton County. They had beautiful weather and seemed to have good attendance the day we were there. Greta and Mike her husband took us on a tour of the fairgrounds and we met some of the people who work at the fair. David Drake has the soft ice cream concession there and at the Brown Co. Fair. Lottie enjoyed a delicious hot fudge sundae from his booth. We waited till Saturday to visit the Adams Co. Fair in West Union, Ohio. They had the best weather through the week till Friday afternoon and evening. Saw Matt Hilldebrand, C103 radio personality, he and I discussed his upcoming fatherhood.
