THE LAMB In John 10 Jesus is talking about the sheepfold and the door. He said: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.” Jesus is the Shepherd of the sheep. He is also the door. In verse 7 He said: “...I am the door of the sheep.” In verse 11 He said: “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” It is interesting that the Good Shepherd is a Lamb and we are the sheep. In John 1:36 John the Baptist, when looking at Jesus, said: “...Behold the Lamb of God!” But the story did not start here. Way back in the book of Genesis after Adam and Eve had eaten of the forbidden fruit, we find the beginning of the most amazing story ever told. In chapter 3 and verse 7 it tells us: “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.” In verse 21 it says: “ Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” God shed the first blood to provide coverings for Adam and Eve. Later we find Cain and Abel. They were Adam and Eve’s first 2 sons. Cain killed Abel because he was jealous of Abel’s offering to the LORD. Abel’s offering was a lamb, a blood sacrifice, while Cain’s offering was of the fruit of the ground, a bloodless sacrifice. Who knows, maybe Cain was a vegetarian! Whatever the case, in Hebrews 9:22 it tells us that without the shedding of blood there is no remission. So it was way back in Genesis that a lamb was first slain. Look at Genesis chapter 22. God gave Abraham a tremendously hard test. He told him in verse 2 to offer his only son by Sarah as a sacrifice. Of course, God did not allow Abraham to follow through with it but instead provided Abraham with a ram to offer. Abraham had believed that God would immediately restore Isaac back to life but his willingness to offer Isaac proved that Abraham was willing to do whatever God told him to do. The test was a foreshadowing of what God was actually going to do with His

only begotten Son on the cross of Calvary. Jesus was the sacrificial Lamb. John 1:29: “...Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” Let’s move on to Exodus. In chapter 12, after the judgment upon the firstborn is foretold, Moses instructs the people of Israel to slay a male lamb without blemish and put it’s blood on the 2 side posts and on the upper post of the doors to their homes. This would protect them from that judgment so that their firstborn would live. Where there was no blood the firstborn died. In verse 23 it states: “...and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the Lord will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.” It was the blood which was the protection! Are you paying attention to what God is showing us? There is nothing else except the blood of Jesus that can wash away your sin and give you eternal life! In John 1:7: “...and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” From the very beginning God was showing us what it would take to cover our sins. Over and over again He shows us that without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. But some refuse to listen. Now, go to Revelation 12:9. Here we will find something which belongs to the Lamb, who is the good Shepherd, who is the door. It states: “...I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.” There will be a wedding in the air! Revelation 19:7: “...for the marriage of the Lamb is come...” The bride and future wife of the Lamb is the church! Will you be a part of this marriage or are you still thinking that you can get there some other way other than the blood of Jesus Christ? If so; Jesus calls you a thief and a robber.
