Solid Waste scholarships awarded The Brown County Solid Waste Authority is pleased to announce the 2019 Scholarship recipients. Applicants were asked to compose an essay on ways that the community can not only recycle, but also focus on ways to reduce and reuse. Often the focus is solely on recy-
cling. The prompt made applicants consider alternatives for items or the possibly of reducing their waste. There were several applicants this year and after a grueling process two winners were selected. Both candidates really brought forth new concepts for reducing and
reusing. Cecelia Murphy, a graduate from FayettevillePerry High school, as well as Sophia Pedigo, a homeschooled graduate, were selected as our two scholarship recipients. Murphy has committed to attend the University of Rio Grande with plans of ma-
joring in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. She will also be playing basketball for the University. Pedigo will be attending the University of Cincinnati and majoring in Environmental Engineering. Both applicants submitted exceptional written responses and each individ-
ual will receive a 1,000 dollar scholarship to further their education. The recipients attended the June Brown County Solid Waste Authority meeting, where they were awarded their scholarship certificates from the Authority Board. On behalf of the Brown County Solid
Waste Authority we would like to congratulate Mikayla and Sydnie on a job well done and the best of luck with their future endeavors. In addition we would like to thank the Brown County Foundation in assisting in this annual program.
