Today we expect to find services on our phones at the touch of a finger – and now Ohio veterans can join the digital revolution, thanks to a mobile app unveiled today by the Ohio Department of Veterans Services. “This app literally puts veterans’ benefits in the palm of their hand,” Ohio Department of Veterans Services Director Tim Gorrell said. “It enables them to find out very quickly what major benefits they’ve earned and how and where to apply for them.” The department’s flipbook “Benefits Resource Guide” (also available online at: http://dvs.ohio.gov/home/v eterans_benefits_guide.asp x ) provided an inspiration

for the mobile app. The intent was to take the guide to the next level by making such information available in an electronic, easily-retrievable form. The app provides an overview of the principal benefits available to veterans and how to apply for them. In the case of most federal and state benefits, this takes the form of a link to a portion of the app where contact information is available for each of Ohio’s county veterans’ service offices by name, zip code or location. There is also a map feature and directional information. The same contact, map and directional information is available for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities in the state. “We’re taking the most

advanced technology available to connect with veterans – we don’t want any veterans left behind,” Director Gorrell said. “For our young veterans who are used to using apps, it’s great to have it now – but we also know that more and more veterans will want to take advantage of it as we move forward.” The app is available, at no cost, from the Google Play and iTunes stores, by searching the key words “Ohio veteran.” The department’s web site, www.ohiovet.gov, contains a link to the stores.
