THE ARK #1
Back in the book of Exodus, chapter 25, God told Moses to build an ark. Now this was not Noah’s ark. This is the ark of the covenant. The word ark means box. Here in Exodus, the ark of the covenant was a piece of furniture that went in the holy of holies in the tabernacle and eventually would be put in the temple. The holy of holies was the holiest place of all in both the tabernacle and the temple. It was the room where the ark was to be placed. It was entered into only once a year by the high priest which would take the blood sacrifice in to offer for a sin atonement for the people. The ark was the only piece of furniture in there. There were no windows and no lights in the holy of holies. It was lit by the glory of God called the Shekinah Glory. Now, verse 10 describes the ark. It says: “And they shall make an ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.” So it is made of wood, which refers to human flesh. Next, according to verse 11, it is overlaid within and without with pure gold. Then they were to make a crown of gold round about it. Gold always speaks of God so when you have wood overlaid with gold you have humanity and God all in one. Now who do you think that represented? It represented God in human flesh, it represented Jesus. Both the tabernacle and the temple were a type of His whole program. The one sacrifice that Jesus made was more than sufficient for any and all sacrifices that were ever made by men in the holy of holies. Hebrews 10:14 states: “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” Now, there was never an ark of the covenant or a tabernacle up until this time in the book of Exodus. Before this time people would offer their sacrifice upon a rock. But, after God brought His people up out of Egypt and they crossed the Red Sea, God instructed Moses to build the tabernacle, the main part of which was the ark of the covenant. It was there that sin was dealt with. This tabernacle was portable and as the people

traveled around the wilderness they took it with them. When the Shekinah Glory came and stood in a certain place then that was where the tabernacle would be sat up and they camped around it. After Moses died and they were ready to go over into the promise land, it was the ark of the covenant that the priest carried when the water of the Jordan river parted and all the people crossed over on dry ground; it was similar to when they crossed the Red Sea. The first stationary tabernacle was in Shiloh and Eli was the high priest. It was at this time that there was a woman named Hannah; she had no children and was very upset over it. So she went up to the tabernacle to pray about it. You can read the whole account in I Samuel chapter 1. In about that same time frame the children of Israel got in trouble with the Philistines. They were in a backslidden state and had no influence with God. So they decided to take the ark out of the holy of holies and take it with them into battle. Now, you can not cart God around! You have to let God control your life; you can’t control Him! You could have the ark or anything else and it will not help you if you are not willing to obey God! Well, they lost the battle and the Philistines took the ark (I Samuel chapter 4), which they greatly regretted doing! It caused them major trouble so they returned it (I Samuel chapters 5-6). Now, skipping on ahead, David wanted to bring the ark to Jerusalem but he did not take the time to find out the proper way to transport it. He heard that the last time it was moved it was by way of a new cart so he put it on a new cart (II Samuel 6). Well I guess if you want to find out what happened to the ark and where it is now you will have to read next week’s article.

World, Please Remember Me
I was here for such a short while, I didn’t smoke, drink or do drugs, Because I loved my Mom & Dad’s smile. I didn’t ever want to hurt them, I just wanted to make them proud Of their son they named “Scott Aaron” So I didn’t “Go along with the crowd.” I just couldn’t understand Why so many perfectly healthy people Would deliberately invade their bodies With drugs that were so lethal. As I was about to turn 18, I had so many dreams and plans, I wanted to do something special, To leave my mark upon the lands. Then, all at once, my world was shattered And I had to understand That life is what happens to us While we’re making other plans. I had heard the word “cancer,” Never, never connecting it with me, Then the doctors said those dreaded words, “You have cancer and it’s terminal, you see.” The screams and tears came flowing forth, “You’re wrong, you’re wrong,” Mom cried. We had to believe we had a chance, So we tried and tried and tried. The tears never stop, It’s just that they don’t always show, As time grows more precious and The Doctors tell us things we really don’t want to know. I felt, oh, so helpless, Yet I had to be strong, I must bear the pain and the certainty That my time on earth won’t be long. Some friends came to see me, Some couldn’t handle the pain Of seeing me slowly, but surely Losing the final game. I wish I could have lived longer on earth, It’s such a nice place to be. But, I’ll be waiting for you in Heaven with my arms opened wide.
