GOLD

Matthew 6:19-21: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Jesus said: “...lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven...” There are elements in heaven the same as there are on earth, but they are of a much better quality. Look with me in Revelation 21:15: “And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city...” A reed is a stick something like a yard stick only it is about 10 feet long. But instead of wood, it is made of gold! And if you read further, the measurement of the city is 1500 miles in all directions, like a gigantic cube. Furthermore, in verse 18 it tells us that the wall of this city is of jasper and the city itself is made of pure gold! And not only that, there are all kinds of precious stones in heaven just like there is here on earth. And there is something else up there that is the same as it was on earth. When Jesus showed His hands to Thomas and the other disciples he told Thomas to put his finger into the nail print. Those nail prints will still be there in heaven when we get there. That just goes to show how great was the price that Jesus paid for you and me. There is no indication that those nail scars will ever go away for all eternity. In Zechariah 13:6 it says: “And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.” Those are the wounds He received on the cross of Calvary. We will be surrounded with all that beauty but the remainder of what it cost Jesus for us to enjoy it will always be there! We will walk on golden streets in a golden city. I wish that the churches could start a gold rush! That all the church members would get gold fever and desire to have gold in heaven instead of wood, hay, and stubble. Do you know that you will receive rewards in heaven? Look in I Corinthians 3:11-15. It states: “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if

any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.” Wouldn’t it be wonderful if every church member would decided to lay up treasure of gold, silver, and precious stones for themselves in heaven instead of hay, wood, and stubble which will be burned up? Your rewards depend on what you lay up. Romans 14:12 says: “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” No one will escape this judgment. How much of your effort for God since you have been saved could you count out as gold? How many of your hours of a 24 hour day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, can you count out as silver or precious stones? Think about it! Your treasure in heaven depends upon it. I am just trying to challenge you to get into a gold rush! In verse 24 of Matthew 6 Jesus said: “No man can serve two masters: ...Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” Mammon is material wealth; you can chase it here and leave it behind when you die or you can store up treasure in heaven which is eternal. The Bible describes that heavenly city as pure gold, like unto clear glass. If you are saved you will be there but how rich will you be? You might now care now. Most people say that they will be satisfied just to be in heaven; but, you do not enjoy being poor here so what makes you think that you will enjoy being poor over there? And moreover, you won’t be able to say that I didn’t warn you!
