Equinox II Children with Sexual Behavior Problems & Sex Offender Treatment Program Twice a year the sun and moon are in balance, day and night each being twelve hours. After that point, days either get longer or shorter, which is also true with most human cycles. There is at some point, a moment of balance, giving the opportunity for decision-making. After that moment things begin to change. That moment is the equinox. Equinox, the moment of change to help offenders reach, realize, and retain a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Admission Individual convicted of a sex crime, involved in sexually inappropriate behaviors, or suspicious acts of sexually inappropriate behavior, may be referred to the program. Upon referral, background information is collected from a variety of sources. Using ageappropriate mental health and AoD diagnostic and assessment tools, staff determines if an applicant is an appropriate candidate for treatment. Community safety is of the utmost importance throughout the assessment and treatment process.
While each plan is unique, intensive treatment is offered over the course of two years, and involves four general steps to:
Control over deviant arousal patterns.
Learn to deal with life issues directly, without converting them to inappropriate/ abusive behaviors and sexually acting out. Determining level of risk
Relapse prevention program
These steps are attained through program experiences including peer, family, individual psychotherapy and groups such as social and human sexuality.
Treatment The Equinox program offers a stable environment where offenders take responsibility for their actions. Staff utilizes both mental health and AoD diagnostic tools and interviews to understand the presence, nature, and extent of individual issues and needs, then creates a comprehensive individualize treatment plan to address those needs. The involvement of families, probation officers, partners, and parents is crucial to successful treatment.
Aftercare Clients who have completed the program are advised on participating in aftercare support groups. The groups will be offered if a client meets criteria and availability.
