Ohio Farmer’s Festival to feature Lee Greenwood BY Martha B. Jacob The Brown County Press The 2013 Ohio Farmers Festival (formerly the Ohio Tobacco Festival) in Ripley, is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 22 and run through Sunday, August 25. Organizers of this years festival have geared up for the event like never before says president of the Ohio Farmer’s Festival Jo Ann Morgan. “I believe that most people understand why we changed the name of this 32 year old festival,” Morgan explained. “The tobacco festival had a great run for 31 years, but it was time to include all farmers across
Ohio to be recognized and be a part of this event. “This change has allowed us to focus more in agriculture. Ohio is so versified and we want to recognize farmers who grow corn, soy beans, oats, wheat, tobacco and livestock and a lot of other kinds of produce. “We have also included members of FFA and 4-H to participate in events, we are very excited about that.” Morgan said that the festival will feature three special Grand Marshal’s, all lifetime farmers from Georgetown who are still farming today. Grand Marshal’s include Carl Utter, Eugene Ring and Wayne Griffith.
“The reason we went with three grand marshals this year is because next year we plan on opening the position up to nominations from across Ohio,” Morgan said. “We feel like it’s definitely time to recognize Ohio’s farmers.” Morgan added that this year’s theme is “Ohio Celebrating the American Farmer. The festival’s featured entertainer will be Lee Greenwood Greenwood, a well known country singer will take the stage Saturday evening at 9 p.m. singing many of his favorite songs including ‘Ring on Her Finger’, ‘Time on Her Hands’, ‘It Turns me Inside Out’,

Dinner after the parade; • softball tournament; • fireworks display behind the post office on Friday night; • daily raffle drawings; • 5K Run/Walk ( 8 a.m. on Saturday); • car show, baby show and quilt show; • cow milking contest; • draft horse demo and horse pulls; • cardboard boat race; • taco eating contest; • Ripley Idol show; • Good Time Cloggers; • kids rodeo; • arm wrestling championship; • garden tractor obstacle course; • wagon backing contest; • Outhouse race; • prayer breakfast on Sunday morning; • greased pig contest; • cornhole tournament; • fireman’s parade; • baking contest; • tobacco spitting contest; • cheerleading competition; • duck race on the river. “There is truly something for everyone to enjoy at this year’s festival,” Morgan said. “This could well be our biggest and best festival ever.”
