NOTICE The Brown County Solid Waste Authority has prepared a Draft Solid Waste Management Plan for Brown County, Ohio. The purpose of the Plan is to make adequate provisions for waste disposal, recycling and composting for the next 15 years. The Plan provides an inventory of existing solid waste facilities and projects the volume of solid waste generated during the planning period based on estimated population growth and waste generation trends. Sufficient landfill space is identified at Rumpke’s Brown County Landfill with contingencies at other regional landfills if necessary. Specific recycling strategies include the use of 15 established community drop off locations and 14 school collection sites within Brown County. Curbside recycling is continued within each incorporated villages within the county. New recycling strategies include single stream collection for all recycling programs and a new commercial collection service. For the first time, an incentive program will be implemented to encourage villages to collect yard waste or to switch to a volume-based billing contract for waste collection. The education and awareness program has been expanded to benefit from the resources of the Brown County Soil & Water Conservation District and the Brown County OSU Extension Service. Other programs with continuing support in the plan include a yard waste drop off site, household hazardous waste collection, waste tire collection and cleanup days. The Litter Law Enforcement program and the Health Department funding remain to protect the health and safety of Brown County residents. These programs are funded by an existing tipping fee collected at the landfill of $1.50 per ton for in-county waste and $3.00 per ton for out-of-county waste. Since the volume of waste received at the Brown County Landfill is beyond our control, contingencies have been identified for increased or decreased funding. The Plan also reserves the right of the Brown County Solid Waste Authority to adopt solid waste rules and make facility designations as allowed by ORC 3734.53 and ORC 343.01. On Saturday, July 12, 2014 Harmony-Star will sponsor their annual bike ride to benefit Shriners Hospital for Children, Cincinnati. This is our fourth annual event. To date we have raised over $6,000.00 for children. Rain date is Saturday, July 26, 2014. Registration will begin at 11 a.m., kickstands are up at 12 p.m. This event will start and finish at the Mt. Orab Park. Upon returning to the Park, lunch will be available after 2 p.m. Registration cost is single rider $10.00, rider and passenger $15.00, both registration fees include a lunch ticket.
