The Grief Recovery Method® Outreach Program set One of the least addressed concerns in our society is grief, the normal and natural reaction to loss. The Grief Recovery Method® Outreach Program, based on The Grief Recovery Handbook, will guide those who wish to resolve their loss issues and move beyond their grief to a richer quality of life. The program will be held on Monday afternoons
from 1-3 p.m. from June 2nd – August 18th at St. George located at 501 E. State Street, Georgetown. Space is limited so preregistration is required. The Georgetown Fire and EMS Departments will be hosting a BBQ Dinner and Open House on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 4 - 8 p.m. The Fire House will be open for tours and we will have the Kids Fire Safety Fun House as well for the little ones to enjoy! The dinner menu will include Smoked Pulled Pork or Pulled Chicken, plus a choice of 2 sides which include bbq beans, slaw, chips, a dessert, and tea or lemonade for only $7.00 donation per plate. Older Americans Month proclaimed

Ohio is home to more than 2.3 million adults age 60 and older and each May is celebrated nationwide as Older Americans Month. In observance of Older Americans Month, representatives from the AAA7 and Brown County Senior Citizens Council recently visited the Brown County Commissioners Office in Georgetown, where a proclamation for Older Americans Month was signed by the Commissioners for this special observation. OBITUARIES Robert Penrose Barber, 84
Robert Penrose Barber, 84 of Georgetown, Oh., and formerly of Felicity, Oh., died Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Mr. Barber was born March 12, 1930 in Felicity, the son of the late Dr. Cecil F. and Gladys (Penrose) Barber. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son – Anthony Barber and one sister – Marilyn Eich. He attended the Felicity Franklin School through the 6th grade and the “war years” were spent at Ohio Military Academy in College Hill while his father was a medical officer in the U.S. Army. He then returned to finish his high school years in Felicity. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy and became an official naval photographer. After completing his service obligation, he attended Rochester General Hospital where he received a degree in medical photography and was employed by the Decatur and Macon County Hospital in Decatur, Ill., as their staff photographer. He received a Master degree in biological sciences from the University of Illinois Graduate School in Champaign Urbana, Illinois in 1968. He transferred after two years to the University of Illinois Circle campus in Chicago where he pursued an additional Master Degree in neurology. In 1970, he was asked to join a new group of research scientists at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, Cal. He remained at this endeavor for the next thirty-five years until his retirement in 2006. Mr. Barber is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years – Joyce (Weber) Barber; one daughter – Rebecca Barber of Georgetown, two granddaughters – Jennifer and Rachel – both of California; three great granddaughters and two brothers – Donald Barber of Ft. Lauderdale, Flor., and Stephen Barber of Pompano Beach, Flor. Following cremation, a memorial service has been set at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, where Gary Brose will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 – 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Cahall Funeral Home, Georgetown, served the family.
Tommie K. Slack, 60
Tommie K. Slack, 60, Seaman, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014. Tommie was born in Georgetown, on January 26, 1954. He was born the son of the late James and Emma (Hauck) Slack. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother, James E. Slack. He leaves behind a son, Travis Slack, Batavia and three grandchildren, brothers John Slack, Gilbert Slack, Terry Slack and sister, Bonnie Allen. Cremation is to take place with no services scheduled at this time. Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery. The Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Peebles, served the family.

Virginia Bell Germann, 90
Virginia Bell Germann, 90 of Ripley, died Monday, May 19, 2014. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael Church in Ripley. Mrs. Germann was born March 22, 1924 in Georgetown, the daughter of the late William G. and Anna L. (Downing) Rice. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard T. Germann, Sr.; three sisters – Clara Edith Lewis, Rosalee Purdin and Elizabeth Vaughn; one brother – Hubert J. Rice and one son-in-law – Paul Hauke. Mrs. Germann is survived by three daughters – Angela C. Hauke , Vivian L. Armour and husband Bobby and Kathleen I. Plymesser and husband Miles, all of Ripley; three sons – Leonard T. Germann, Jr. and wife Sandra of Higginsport, Ohio, Leslie C. Germann and wife Patricia of Batavia, Ohio and Jerome L. Germann and wife Denise of Aberdeen, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial has been set at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014 at St. Michael Church in Ripley, where Rev. Dohrman Byers will be the Celebrant. Visitation has been set for 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evening at Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Ripley. Dale Burton, 69
Dale Burton, 69 of Russellville, Oh., passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014. He was born July 16, 1944 in Maysville, Ky., the son of the late Jesse Woodrow and Thelma (Russell) Burton. He retired from Hi-Way Paving as an operating engineer. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Ripley Church of Christ. Dale is survived by his wife Millie Burton of Russellville, 1 son; J.D. Burton and Erica of Russellville, 4 daughters; Shawna McKinley and husband Tim of New Hope, Stacey Cochran and husband Marion of Georgetown, Rachel Frebis and husband David of Ash Ridge, Betsy Nesbitt and husband Jamie of Cherry Fork, 1 sister; Rosa Burton of Ripley, and 15 grandchildren. Funeral Services have been set for Saturday May 24, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Meeker Funeral Home in Russellville with John Neu officiating. Burial will follow at the Ash Ridge Cemetery with graveside military services by the Walter-Miller American Legion Post #394. Visitation will be held Friday May 23, 2014 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hoxworth Blood Center, Ripley Church of Christ or the Clermont Mercy Hospital. The Meeker Funeral Home, Russellville, served the family.
Gay "Briar Hopper" (nee Stacy) Ingram, 77
Gay "Briar Hopper" (nee Stacy) Ingram, 77, Monroe Township, passed away Tuesday May 20, 2014. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late James Michael Ingram. Devoted and loving mother of Jamie and Teresa Ingram, proud grandmother of Alexis Ingram, Stacy Louiso and Michelle Manning. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as her 2 prized dogs Maggie and Ollie. Preceded in death by her parents, Arthur "Red" Stacy and Marie Nipper Stacy, and brother, Ronnie Stacy. With the help of her late husband Jim, Gay owned and ran Valley Gem Marina floating restaurant in Ripley from 1990-2009. She was an animal lover, avid gardener and life-long Reds fan, keeping her own records of wins and losses at a very young age. She put her family's needs above her own and was extremely devoted to their happiness, as well as spoiling her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Visitation has been set at E.C. Nurre Funeral Home 177 West Main St. (St. Rt. 125), Amelia, Saturday May 24, 2014 from 1 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Interment has been set at Monroe Township Cemetery.
