INTRO / NAVIGATION Many of you have been to one of our in-person events over the past 16 years but this year has presented new challenges for everyone! With COVID spreading faster than ever before in our region it just isn’t safe to put that many people in a room together. We appreciate your love and support over the years, we couldn’t possibly do that to you. Enter this joint production by your Rust Belt maker market friends at Cleveland Bazaar, Crafty Mart and I Made It! Market. With so many of our makers doing one, two or even all three of our events each holiday season it made sense to team up. Here’s how it all works. Daena (Urbanski) Johnson, ReGeeked “ReGeeked is a line of wallets and accessories handcrafted in Northeast Ohio. All products are created with genuine comic book pages and news print, making each a unique and one of a kind find. Each wallet is first cut from discarded or damaged comic books and layered with other recycled papers before being laminated by hand with a vinyl laminate. This technique provides protection for the comic pages and keeps the wallet durable while also maintaining the flexibility of paper. Luggage tags, ID holders, bookmarks, and cash envelopes are laminated by machine to give them more structure and help maintain the integrity of the piece. Any scrap pages are then used to create pins, magnets, and key chains to keep waste to a minimum and give as much new life as possible to what might previously be considered worthless. All wallets and larger accessories are tagged with the publication date of the comic(s) used when available and the date it was crafted.�
Belinda Darr, Moonlit Made Bags & Gifts “My bag business is 11 years old. It all started with a little vintage coin purse frame and a pattern from a Japanese craft book that I couldn’t read. Since then, I’ve sold to over 37 countries and 48 out of 50 states. While my line has expanded, that little coin purse is still the heart of my bag line. Today, my favorite fabrics are those I’ve collected over the years: Harris Tweed woolens, cut velvet upholstery and Liberty of London prints. I have graduated to one-of-a-kind large tote bags with matching accessories as well as a larger variety of metal purse frames for crossbody and clutch styles. 2020 has been a challenge—and an opportunity to include some non-bag styles. I have recently added essential oil bags, project bags and wristlets to the assortment.”

Each piece is handmade with freehand carved designs of doofy animals, rude phrases, and abstractions of skies. Her ever evolving work features candy coloring, unique shapes, and is best described as eccentrically beautiful.”

Kate Marchand, Stone + Sparrow “Stone + Sparrow is a small-batch ceramics business that forges handmade and wheel-thrown goods with a focus on minimalism and functionality. Shelly Cubarney, Shelly Cubarney Pottery “My porcelain pottery giftware is handmade, one piece at a time in my Zelienople, PA studio. Each piece is its own unique artwork, as no two are alike. I use images, photographs, leaves and ferns from the woods that surround my studio to create the layered fossil effect impressions of my pieces. I use a special earthy colorant in my pottery – recovered iron and manganese runoff that once polluted Pennsylvania streams caused by abandoned mine drainage. The recovered minerals have been painstakingly reclaimed and repurposed into pigments that I use during my glazing process, enhancing the natural texture of my design. All work is dishwasher safe and microwaveable.”

I hand fabricate all of my sterling silver jewelry. Everything starts as sterling sheet and wire and I fabricate from that point, right down to my jump rings and clasps. When stamping on my work, it is done with Native American made stamps. My enamel work is done on hand-cut copper. With that colorful vintage style in mind, you will need a place to keep your new jewelry, so I recycle hand-cut lawn chair webbing into small zipper cases for its protection.�

She was captivated by the precise technique of linking small jump rings into necklaces, pendants, bracelets, and earrings. Pamela is a self-taught artist, learning primarily from online internet tutorials and magazines. She has since designed her own weaves and patterns. Using a butane torch, Pamela also fuses Argentium silver wire and sheet metal into her own jewelry designs. She always tries to incorporate the jump rings from her chainmaille weaving into her fused jewelry. Pamela designs her jewelry to cross fashion trend lines allowing her jewelry to be worn for years to come. It’s the jewelry you wear when you can’t decide what to wear!”

Jen Joyce “Pittsburgh emerging artist Jen Joyce has exhibited artwork in group shows including Art All Night and the Fort Pitt Museum. All of my work begins as a paper cutting, which I draw and then cut out of paper with an exacto blade. Many of these cuttings are then translated into single or multiple-layered screen prints, with each layer created from its own layer of cut paper. Paper cuttings translate beautifully and simply into screen prints, and I never have to use computers to do it! (Which I love :) My work is slow and intricate, which gives me the opportunity to observe and uplift the magical details of the living (and imagined) beings I focus on in my art.
