INTRO / NAVIGATION Many of you have been to one of our in-person events over the past 16 years but this year has presented new challenges for everyone! With COVID spreading faster than ever before in our region it just isn’t safe to put that many people in a room together. We appreciate your love and support over the years, we couldn’t possibly do that to you. Enter this joint production by your Rust Belt maker market friends at Cleveland Bazaar, Crafty Mart and I Made It! Market. With so many of our makers doing one, two or even all three of our events each holiday season it made sense to team up. Here’s how it all works. You’re reading this in the catalog now (which will remain live online til the end of December 2020, then live on as a PDF for future shopping reference on our sites). If you’re seeing this before November 28th-29th, though, please join us in our Facebook event. Click here to go the event page and then RSVP by choosing “going.”

Gift hintin g tip: print the pages of artists you like, c ircle the things you want and leave them scattered around th e house!

On the 28th and 29th our artists will be active in that Facebook event page to help you find just the right gifts, albeit virtually. Post questions and we’ll be there to answer them. We’ll be sharing videos, specials, discounts and much more. Read all about it in the event page before during our virtual event! Brag about your best finds! Post your shopping hauls in the event, and inspire other shoppers with the great items you found.

Before the event weekend, please use this catalog to check out our 150+ talented makers and start making your shopping list. Handmade often means one of a kind so if you want to snap something up before the 28th, do! (And let the artist know where you found them in your order comments!) You can navigate to each artist’s page by clicking their name in the Shop By Name page, and you can go straight to a category by clicking it on the Shop by Category page. On artist pages you can use the icons below to visit their Facebook, Instagram and websites. In the four corners of EVERY page there is an invisible “home” button (see visible icons on this page). Click the corners to return to the table of contents from anywhere. Individual products on artist pages are also linked. Sarah Larson, Ellie Jane Bags Ellie Jane Bags are designed and handcrafted using waxed canvas, leather and cordura. Our range of styles and sizes are ideal for everyday casual wear and belong with your favorite pair of jeans. All bags are lined in a waterproof material, easy to clean and durable. Joanna Haraczka, Joanna Stanek “Celebrate your inner joy with our effortlessly expressive, high quality handbags! Each bag is made with the individual care and attention it deserves, all at our headquarters in Patton, Pennsylvania. The Joanna Stanek brand aims to produce the best possible experience for customers, to share our love of creating. Daena (Urbanski) Johnson, ReGeeked “ReGeeked is a line of wallets and accessories handcrafted in Northeast Ohio. All products are created with genuine comic book pages and news print, making each a unique and one of a kind find. Each wallet is first cut from discarded or damaged comic books and layered with other recycled papers before being laminated by hand with a vinyl laminate. This technique provides protection for the comic pages and keeps the wallet durable while also maintaining the flexibility of paper. Luggage tags, ID holders, bookmarks, and cash envelopes are laminated by machine to give them more structure and help maintain the integrity of the piece. Any scrap pages are then used to create pins, magnets, and key chains to keep waste to a minimum and give as much new life as possible to what might previously be considered worthless. All wallets and larger accessories are tagged with the publication date of the comic(s) used when available and the date it was crafted.

Belinda Darr, Moonlit Made Bags & Gifts “My bag business is 11 years old. It all started with a little vintage coin purse frame and a pattern from a Japanese craft book that I couldn’t read. Since then, I’ve sold to over 37 countries and 48 out of 50 states. While my line has expanded, that little coin purse is still the heart of my bag line. Today, my favorite fabrics are those I’ve collected over the years: Harris Tweed woolens, cut velvet upholstery and Liberty of London prints. I have graduated to one-of-a-kind large tote bags with matching accessories as well as a larger variety of metal purse frames for crossbody and clutch styles. 2020 has been a challenge—and an opportunity to include some non-bag styles. I have recently added essential oil bags, project bags and wristlets to the assortment.”

Jennifer Couch, Jenci “One of a kind bags and purses made from recycled vintage tweed, rescued fabric scraps and renewable cork tree bark. The reclaimed nature of these bags is a perfect way to show off your commitment to upcycling and sustainability.

Amelia Kieras, Amelia Kieras Paper Arts “I create pop up cards, 3D layered cut paper art, stationary, hand bound picture books, and paper toys, featuring all sorts of weird, strange, and cute illustrations. To create my imagery, I start with a sketch, scan it, and then build the final illustration from a collage of original photography and digital painting techniques. I print, cut, and assemble the artwork in my Pittsburgh based home studio, using archival pigment-based giclee printing and heavyweight matte papers. My imagery is inspired by childhood memories and imaginings, folk tales, fairy tales, and dreams.

I’m inspired by everyday mindfulness and our connections to each other and our surrounding natural world. I am also inspired by the historical power of the printing press to create positive social change. I use handset metal and wood type as well as carved plywood blocks and found textures to create my line of art prints, greeting cards, handbound journals, and advocacy posters. Kerry Wills, 1cre8ivemess “I specialize in all occasion greeting cards! I offer a wide variety of designs and am always willing to create custom orders. I’m a firm believer in sharing as much [handmade] happiness as possible and my favorite way to do this is with cards. A text, tweet and email will be lost within minutes, but cards are something that continue to stand the test of time. My surface designs range from vibrant rainbow stripes to lovely botanical patterns to cute animals.

Kate Marchand, Stone + Sparrow “Stone + Sparrow is a small-batch ceramics business that forges handmade and wheel-thrown goods with a focus on minimalism and functionality. Shelly Cubarney, Shelly Cubarney Pottery “My porcelain pottery giftware is handmade, one piece at a time in my Zelienople, PA studio. Each piece is its own unique artwork, as no two are alike. I use images, photographs, leaves and ferns from the woods that surround my studio to create the layered fossil effect impressions of my pieces. I use a special earthy colorant in my pottery – recovered iron and manganese runoff that once polluted Pennsylvania streams caused by abandoned mine drainage. The recovered minerals have been painstakingly reclaimed and repurposed into pigments that I use during my glazing process, enhancing the natural texture of my design. All work is dishwasher safe and microwaveable.”

Xmittens’ fleece is made from recycled plastic, bringing the story of American textile manufacture into the present.”

Tori Tedesco, Little Birdie Design Studio “Founded in 2009, Little Birdie Design Studio has grown from a crafting hobby into an established company that specializes in hand-knit statement pieces. Julie Zaichuk-Ryan, South Atlantic Stitching Company “Fabric is my world, and I live to find beautiful combinations that turn an old-fashioned craft into a crisp, clean art form. There’s a space between traditional quilt design and minimalism, and that is where I like to be. Bright colors, bold neutrals, simple shapes, dainty florals– to me, these create the perfect combination for a modern home. Leah Brow / Paul Beaver, Light Up Labs “We make lamps. Wall lamps, table lamps, pendant lamps, floor lamps...anything in the lighting category, we’re open to trying. We especially love making lamps out of things that used to be something else. Most of our lamps are made with interesting looking or nostalgic items from the past. While attempting to preserve their original form, we give these discarded objects a new life someone can enjoy. As we continue to expand our shop inventory, our commitment to using as many repurposed materials in the construction of our lamps has only intensified. Instead of buying new sockets, switches, plugs or other fixture components, we make every effort to use salvaged materials in order to decrease our carbon footprint and excess waste. It may not be feasible to transform all the junk in the world into a sweet lamp, but piece by piece, we’re willing to give it a try.”

Jessica Skinner, JBurgess Designs “Inspired by my grandpa, I reimagine pre-loved furniture and use reclaimed wood to create one of a kind designs. Most of my work is functional home decor (mirrors, coasters, photo frames, etc.), but I also make various decorative wall art and plaques. I ensure that my pieces last for years and remain beautiful by using solid, sturdy wooden or MDF bases, high-grade beveled mirrors and stained glass, and other durable materials. My finished products have very clean edges, so they look polished from any angle. I also employ bold designs and colors, resulting in a very unique style. Recently we have expanded the SlainteHome brand to include unique gift items, original artwork and custom apparel with our signature Celtic flair.”

Her jewelry studio is eco-friendly and sustainable, and each quarter a portion of profits are donated to an environmental organization that promotes collective impact.

Christina Krautz, Splishy Splash Craft “I think that jewelry should be classic, modern, and timeless all at the same time. Making my own makes all of this possible. The stones already have a story to tell, then the fabrication process continues this story before it becomes a finished piece of jewelry. I tend to have a modern old pawn ascetic due to my love of vintage and turquoise, and I hope this gives my jewelry a chance to continue to build its story for lifetimes to come. I hand fabricate all of my sterling silver jewelry. Everything starts as sterling sheet and wire and I fabricate from that point, right down to my jump rings and clasps. When stamping on my work, it is done with Native American made stamps. My enamel work is done on hand-cut copper. With that colorful vintage style in mind, you will need a place to keep your new jewelry, so I recycle hand-cut lawn chair webbing into small zipper cases for its protection.

Sarah Pierce, Pierce Jewelry “Pierce Jewelry offers a wide variety of handcrafted, original items. All of the jewelry is created using sterling silver, 14K gold and gemstones. Each piece starts out as basic wire or sheet and is then cut, manipulated, formed, soldered, hammered, finished and set as needed. My work is uniquely characterized by hand painted, hand cut, and laser engraved leather, suede (and faux suede for our vegan friends) fringe, and tassels. Their line of work features neutral palettes (with the occasional pop of color) that allows for play within the wearer’s own fashion sense. Each piece is hand-cut with a jeweler’s saw from sheet metal. Taylor’s favorite part of making jewelry is the coloring process, known as powdering coating. It is a technique used mainly by the automotive industry and creates a sturdy, opaque color finish.”

Melissa O’Brien, Melissa O’Brien Designs “My passion for jewelry began as a young child rummaging through my grandmother’s old jewelry box filled with 1940’s costume jewelry. There was this magic transformation that happened when I would drape an oversized rhinestone necklace on my chest and that has stayed with me all this time. My inspiration comes from mostly nature, shapes and forms. I enjoy playing with the use of positive and negative space through various forming and fusing techniques. I enjoy designing and creating jewelry that is understated, modern, and wearable. I strive to create pieces that are casual enough to wear during the day but modern and elegant to transition into the evening.”

Pamela Lemons, Mostly Maille “Pamela began her jaunt into chainmaille jewelry after she came upon a beading magazine’s tutorial to make a simple chainmaille bracelet. She was captivated by the precise technique of linking small jump rings into necklaces, pendants, bracelets, and earrings. Pamela is a self-taught artist, learning primarily from online internet tutorials and magazines. She has since designed her own weaves and patterns. Using a butane torch, Pamela also fuses Argentium silver wire and sheet metal into her own jewelry designs. She always tries to incorporate the jump rings from her chainmaille weaving into her fused jewelry. Pamela designs her jewelry to cross fashion trend lines allowing her jewelry to be worn for years to come. It’s the jewelry you wear when you can’t decide what to wear!”

It is my intent that this will be passed on to the wearer. Why? If you are happy, you will naturally spread it like wildfire to everyone around you. And then they will feel good too! I use captivating, natural gemstones, lustrous sterling and fine silver, gold-filled and copper metals in my designs. Why? Historically precious stones and metals have been used to imbue leaders with strength, courage, will and other positive qualities. In today’s terms, precious metals and gemstones are eco-friendly. They are healthy, naturally beautiful, and feel wonderful against your skin.”

Sarah Daigneault, MetaMorph “Sarah Daigneault, designer and craftswoman behind MetaMorph, fabricates each piece of jewelry by hand in her Pittsburgh based jewelry studio out of solid metals, semi-precious stones and a wide range of other materials. Bringing bohemian back to where it belongs, Sarah is inspired to create a mix of fun, quirky and ethereal jewelry designed for free spirited people.

Josselyn Crane, Falkora Jewelry “Falkora Jewelry is unusual jewelry that will give you above average confidence. Every piece is digitally conceived and hand finished, taking inspiration from historical art and architecture, fantasy and sci-fi movies, and the modern occult movement. Owner and designer, Josselyn Crane is a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America, and has been joyfully working in the jewelry industry since 2010. Josselyn chose CAD design and 3D printing technology to create jewelry because she has partial use of her right hand and many traditional jewelry fabrication techniques were inaccessible. Jewelry is her true passion, and she puts lots of love and attention into each piece. Her jewelry has evolved to include everything from 3D printed steel pieces to custom silver and gold and even bridal jewelry. Sara Rockburn, 2 ODD BIRDS “2 ODD BIRDS is a culmination of an artist’s passion to bring you unique, nature-inspired jewelry. Completely sourced in the US, I hand pick each stone and start my process from there. I compliment my stones with brass that has been oxidized to give an aged-weathered appeal, as if the stones were dug from the ground. I do not strive to make pretty, shiny, and perfect; but more like Cleveland, my pieces are unique, raw, and have imperfections. My passion is to transform these pieces into beautiful wearable jewelry for you to love and appreciate.”

Beverly Vinch, Washed Ashore Jewelry “Historic Lake Erie beach glass and shipwreck pottery, jewelry and coastal art.”

Laura McGuinness Designs “Laura McGuinness makes one of a kind jewelry pieces using sterling silver and semi-precious gemstones. Laura is inspired by texture, nature, and color.

SUPPORTING LOCAL What does it mean? We use the terms “shop local” and the like so often it’s almost lost its meaning. What do we really want to express when we say this, or encourage people to buy handmade? For one thing, more of your money stays in the community when you do. Amazon is not really hurting for cash, believe us, but your local artists are... especially after so many event cancellations this year. It means choosing to use local labor talent when possible. Akron artist and Crafty Mart board president Lindsey Jo Scott designed our graphics this year (you can visit her website and Instagram using the buttons below). It means one of a kind items you can’t find anywhere else. It means helping a small business realize their dreams. But you don’t have to spend a penny to help! (I mean, we hope you do, but...) Sharing social media posts by your favorite makers, recommending them for gigs (baskets full of tasty local food are a great corporate gift), even just liking their post and leaving a comment. It makes a difference, really! Find these and other graphics you can share at this link!

Jen Joyce “Pittsburgh emerging artist Jen Joyce has exhibited artwork in group shows including Art All Night and the Fort Pitt Museum. Jen is honored to have worked in collaboration with local businesses. Some of her favorites have been with Wigle Whiskey, and Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh. Jen received her BA in Psychology and Studio Arts from Kent State University and MA in Art Therapy with Specialization in Counseling from Seton Hill University. She works full-time as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Art Therapist. She is currently creating portraits of the cities she loves and adds skylines as she travels to new destinations. Jen ‘s work expresses excitement and playfulness found in city living, architecture, and bridges. Jen also has been creating custom modern floral preservation of special occasion flowers. For this process she carefully dries clients’ flowers and casts them in resin, creating a glass-like remembrance of the special day.”

Chris Deighan, Chris Deighan Art LLC

“I make freehand ink drawings on paper that depict fictional scenes. They are either made up or are imaginary layouts of real places. For the art of real places, I like to incorporate architecture and history into the drawings. I reproduce my work by hand on a manual screen printing press. I print on paper, shirts, tote bags and fabric.

Katie Ford, Fiber and Gloss “Fiber and Gloss is an art and gift brand that offers a range of original works and printed goods such as art prints, greeting cards, magnets, and more! All designs are either hand painted or illustrated digitally. I aim to celebrate the special places, moments, and memories in my customers’ worlds with a heavy dash of quirkiness and puns, especially with my map prints and greeting cards. All of my products are printed locally within the Midwest region on US sourced materials. Doubling as a full time art teacher, I started this business as my way of keeping a creative outlet for myself to make pieces that fed my own creative soul. I take great pride in being able to show my students it’s entirely possible to share your art with the world and make money doing it!”

Jennifer Talley, Jen Talley Design

“I create actively feminist, anti-patriarchy, anti-racist, super fun art inspired by pop culture and current events, because I believe art belongs everywhere and can be anything. I sketch an original design, complete line and colorwork digitally, and print and make everything I sell in my basement studio. I invested in an archival quality printer, magnet and button presses, and far more markers than anyone could ever use so that I can truly say everything is handmade one print or item at a time by me and my minions, er, that is, husband and adolescent children.

Devon Cohen, Kibblewood Crafts “With botanical, critter, and fantasy inspired imagery, I make original paper cuttings and hand-pulled screen prints. All of my work begins as a paper cutting, which I draw and then cut out of paper with an exacto blade. Many of these cuttings are then translated into single or multiple-layered screen prints, with each layer created from its own layer of cut paper. Paper cuttings translate beautifully and simply into screen prints, and I never have to use computers to do it! (Which I love :) My work is slow and intricate, which gives me the opportunity to observe and uplift the magical details of the living (and imagined) beings I focus on in my art. My products include original paper cuttings, and a range of screen printed greeting cards and card sets, art prints, kitchen towels, tote bags, and patches.

April Minech, LadybugDelightz “LadybugDelightz creates pop art portraits of animals and custom work. Every animal is an individual with quirky behaviors and traits that we find endearing, and the art tries to express that through bright colors and patterns while capturing the essence of each animal. My hope is that people will find as much joy looking at each portrait that I had creating them!

Sean Higgins and Nicholas Rezabek, The Bubble Process “The Bubble Process is a twoperson design and illustration project built on this foundation: good food, good music, good time. In 2006 we, (Sean Higgins and Nicholas Rezabek), decided to make our dream job since no one else had made it for us, so here we are doing exactly what we love. The two of us met in 1999 at Kent State University and have been best friends ever since. We live apart, (Ohio and Connecticut) but come together via the World Wide Web (virtually inseparable - pun intended!), passing files, ideas, notes and jokes with digital ease, class and style.

Series themes like city nicknames, urban legends, neighborhoods, subway stops, trolley lines, and seasons are thoroughly researched and converted into creative and meaningful designs where the color of the shirt, illustration, and color of the illustration all contribute to the overall story. Seeking to expand this concept, The Lost Borough was launched in 2017 to celebrate other cities that had public rail and dedicated citizens with pride in where they came from. Every shirt and print has a story, and we look forward to sharing it with you.â€?
