Youth Recreation Fund Scholarships & Donations
apleaforhelp ...so that all cleveland heights children may play
The Recreation Advisory Board is asking for your help. Since its inception 12 years ago, the Youth Recreation Fund, a scholarship program administered by the Board, has provided over 2,000 deserving Cleveland Heights children the opportunity to participate in the sports and recreation programs the City has to offer. Over the years, children have learned to swim, skate, master a new sport, become part of a team and more. For some, without the help of the Youth Recreation Fund, that would not have been possible. However, the need for scholarships during these difficult economic times has become so great that the Youth Recreation Fund has been nearly depleted. We ask you to consider donating to this important cause. Please note that 100% of all donations go toward scholarships. Take a moment to remember what it was like when you hit your first home run or made your first goal. Or when you watched your own child develop her basketball skills and learn what teamwork was all about. Imagine the self-esteem and confidence building in a boy or girl as they work to achieve the next level in their karate class. You can help make that possible for a young Cleveland Heights resident. Donations to the fund are tax deductible and may be made to the general scholarship fund or to a specific activity. Donations for specific individuals are allowed, but they are not tax-deductible. Checks should be made payable to the City of Cleveland Heights and mailed to: Youth Recreation Fund, City of Cleveland Heights, 40 Severance Circle, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118

Classes with insufficient enrollment may be can celed or combined with other classes. 4. It is important to register early to prevent cancel lations and to insure proper instructor to student ratios. 5. Registration will not be accepted after the sec ond class. 6. Although no make-up lessons are available for those who miss a lesson (please note: between 100 - 300 skaters participate in each learn-to- skate session), ask for Judy Gruehl or an instructor to help find a make-up option. A complete schedule of Learn-to-skate classes is available at the Community Center registration desk, ice rink counters, and online. Classes are once a week for 30 minutes. Note: Four or five lessons may not be enough class time for your skater to master the skills required to pass. It may take more than one session to pass all skills. We suggest bringing your skater to a public skate or two between lessons to practice or schedule a private lesson with an instructor to help your skaters chances of passing on the first try. Another option is to register your child for two classes per week, rather than just one, ensuring them more ice time and instruction. Note: Tots must wear knitted hats and mittens or gloves to all classes. Warm clothing is advised (but bulky “leggings are hard to move in). The professionals would appreciate parents not giving their skaters gum or candy while on the ice and suggest parents sit in the bleachers during lessons. Double runners are not allowed for lessons. YOUTH LESSONS Ages: 6 - High school Classes offered: Basic 1 - 8, Freestyle 1 - 6 ADULT LESSONS Ages: 18 and over Classes offered: Basic 1 - 6, Freestyle 1 - 6
PRIVATE LESSONS In addition to group lessons, the professional skating staff is available for private instruction. A list of professionals is available at the ice rink counter or online. Please contact individual instructors directly. The cost of a 15-minutes lesson ranges from $9.00 - $15.00; additional ice fees apply. CITY FREESTYLE Skaters of all levels who want to develop their skating skills may skate during City Freestyle sessions for a $9.00 walk-on fee (monthly passes and punch cards also available). These sessions are for the more serious skater who is practicing jumps, spins, backward skating, moves, etc. A seven (7) session card may be purchased for $56.00. A monthly freestyle pass may be purchased for $120.00 (Recreation I.D. card holder) or $150.00 (all others). Private lessons can be taught during these sessions. Skaters must check in at the ice rink counter and pay before joining the session. A schedule of these sessions is available at the ice rink counter and online. PAVILION SKATING CLUB The Pavilion Skating Club (P.S.C.) is an organization developed to provide opportunities for skaters to continue building upon the skills learned in the City’s “Learn-to-Skate Basic Skills” program. P.S.C. is now able to offer year-round ice, as well as off-ice programming. The club caters to individuals who love skating and wish to continue building on their skill level as well as those who desire to achieve Olympic fame. Hula-hoop Fitness is a fun new workout that is too fun to be exercise. It integrates dance and movement with weighted hula hoops that will tone the major muscle groups, burn calories and leave you feeling happy and energized. Hooping promotes weight loss, tones abdominal muscles, strengthens the core, increases flexibility, energy, relieves stress, relaxes the mind, promotes creativity and self-expression. Participants need to bring their own 1.5 lb hula hoop and a spillproof water bottle. Please wear close fitting nonbulky workout clothes (so the hoop is able to freely flow around the body) and gym shoes. (For a hula hoop fitting and purchase call Gerri McCully (216) 214-6234 or gerrimc@hoopinghipsOhio.com.)
