14 Billion Pound Essel Group Announces Plans for a Major Investment in London and a New Cultural Landmark The Essel Group is pleased to announce its plans for a major world class visitor attraction and hotel and leisure complex to celebrate India’s culture and history as part of the regeneration of the Silvertown district in London.
Spanning 2.5 million square feet, the centre would include museums and a theatre, retail outlets, restaurants, a botanical garden and a luxury hotel.
Led by Dr. Subhash Chandra, Essel Group, an Indian conglomerate with diverse business interests across Media, Entertainment, Packaging, Infrastructure, Education, Precious metals, Finance and Technology, is in talks to take over the redevelopment of the entire 62-acre brownfield site in east London’s Royal Docks. A proposal has been submitted to the Greater London Authority (GLA) to purchase the land from the current developers, The Silvertown Partnership, a consortium consisting of Chelsfield Properties, First Base and Macquarie Capital. Futuristic computer generated images released today by the Essel Group and HPW Architects show the multi-billion pound cultural centre that would sit on 14 acres at the heart of the Silvertown project under the proposal. Its architects say the centre will provide a ‘cultural landmark’ for London which will ‘defy traditional tall build typologies’ and transform the City skyline.
The project could deliver 5,000 jobs in the East End and provide a huge boost to the economy, said the Mumbai-based Essel Group today. The £3.5bn Silvertown redevelopment, which is already underway, will transform a former industrial area in Newham between Canary Wharf and London City airport, and create more than 3,000 homes, including affordable housing. The proposed purchase includes Millennium Mills, a 20th century former flour mill. A spokesperson for the Essel Group Parul Goel said: “London remains the beating heart of Europe, and the Essel Group is committed to making a huge investment into London to complete the transformation of this part of the city, offering a sustainable and eco-friendly development that meets the requirements of the current planning permission and ensuring this project moves quickly.” “The Essel Group and our design team have been in detailed discussions with The Silvertown Partnership for many months, all of which has been hugely productive and our proposal has
the full support and trust of The Silvertown Partnership. With Brexit looming, this kind of investment into the UK represents a massive coup for the GLA and the London Mayor Sadiq Khan. The cultural centre will be like no other in the world, and we aim to put this part of London back on the map.” The plans are the culmination of a long-held ambition by Dr Subhash Chandra, the Chairman of Essel Group, to create an educational cultural destination that will showcase the impact and influence of ancient civilisations over 6,000 years. Cultural visitors will start at the top of the centre and work their way through museums, art galleries and interactive experiences highlighting the origins of the Indus and other civilisations to the modern day. The centre will also provide space for mediation, yoga and dance as well as a spa and wedding venue. A conference centre, exhibition facilities and a global news and world class TV production studio are also proposed. The centre has the potential to help resolve human conflicts of modern times, added Mr Goel. “Dr Chandra is recognised as an ambassador of Indian culture to the rest of the world. His vision is that the basic DNA of the centre will be based the idea that the world is one family. People from different beliefs, religions, countries and regions will be able to use its free and fair environment to hold discussions and arrive at possible solutions to current conflicts,” he said. If the plans are approved, the Essel Group’s proposed development of Silvertown could see the cultural centre open by 2023, subject to approval by the GLA. A decision is expected this month. Essel will work in partnership with HPW Architects who will lead on design, and Mace, the international construction company behind The Shard.

Sunderland firm scoop major parenting award A creative company which helps educate children with its geography themed gift packs has won the MadeForMums gold award for best subscription box/service
Geo Journey managed to beat off top competition from the likes of Bookabees and BKD, who picked up the silver and bronze awards, respectively. The award-winning firm is run by two sisters: Christina Armstrong, who started the business, and Fiona Waistell, who was recently recruited to help market the business. Based at the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) in Sunderland, Geo Journey offer a subscription-based service for children aged four to 10 with educational gift packs – starting off with an adventure kit containing a journal, passport, souvenir, map and stickers. Children then receive monthly post from a cartoon owl called Geo and a puppy named Atlas who teach them about the world’s most interesting countries and cities. And the MadeForMums website – which is the UK’s largest parenting review website of its kind – highlighted Geo Journey in its mission to reward companies for having the best products, brands and services for children and parents.

Speaking about the firm’s major achievement, Christina explained: “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I opened the email and it said we had won gold. “We’ve worked really hard on making our products the best they can be so to have this recognition is brilliant. “The fact that our subscriptions have been tested by industry experts, mums and of course the children themselves makes the win even more special. “Our main focus has always been to make the children happy to receive the fun mail from Geo and Atlas and to get parents involved and excited about our product too.” The award win is part of a double celebration for the business after they recently expanded to the BIC. Due to prior successes – including securing a large volume of sales from clients in Saudi Arabia – the firm needed to leave their home office due to increased levels of stock. Needing a larger space to house it all, the firm joined the BIC and have now outlined plans to explore
new markets – including the education sector. Christina added: “Continued business growth meant it was essential to relocate from our home office into a larger and more accessible space. “And with sales going so well we can now afford to spend some time working with local schools to develop the product. “Children would love to see a life-sized Geo and Atlas in their school teaching them about the world’s most interesting places. “We want to use this award as a stepping stone to build our brand further and grow our business even more.”

Stage One won the contract in summer 2017 and since then has designed and installed a flying system above the stadium where the opening ceremony will be held. Comprising fourteen winches and steel wire cable installed 50m above the field of play, this flying system adds a strong creative dimension to the spectacular opening show. One of the largest technical challenges was ensuring that the engineering remains operational in exceptionally cold conditions. Although the forecast had anticipated temperatures just above freezing, the system had only been exposed to temperatures as low as minus forty degrees. Forty degrees
below is the only temperature that has the same value in both Celsius and Fahrenheit. To cope with these conditions, the winches were enclosed in insulated shipping containers that are placed at the base of each of the large towers around the perimeter of the stadium. The technology seemed to adapt well to these extreme conditions, despite the system operators still feeling the chill. Mark Johnson, CEO commented “Being asked to deliver Olympic Ceremony work is a tremendous privilege. The technology we have to offer is world class and well proven. We’ve been at every Games since Athens in 2004. However, with the eyes of the world watching, there is always an air of anticipation ahead of the show. These are, after all, live events.

Programmatic firm Admedo reports 198% rise in revenues UK ad tech start-up Admedo recorded 198 per cent growth in revenue during 2017, despite scepticism in the Venture Capitalist market around ad tech, and in a period where advertising giants Google and Facebook hoovered up 84 per cent of global spending on digital advertising. The London-based company, which was founded by Nick Moutter and Laura Bowen in 2013, has raised £7 million in funding to date from investors that include Sussex Place Ventures, MMC and Fuel Ventures. Previously focused on growth, Admedo’s goal shifted to profitability in 2017 through transitioning more into the direct advertiser market, enabling brands and advertisers to bring their programmatic buying in house with ease and in a transparent manner. Having been named in The Fresh Business Thinking Shift 100 in association with KPMG last year, which celebrated marketing and advertising entrepreneurs who were reinventing advertising and marketing, Admedo believes data is the key for advertisers and media owners. “In order to realise the full potential of programmatic advertising, brands must be able to harness their first party data. We have incorporated into our programmatic suite the ability for brands to dynamically build audiences through the creation of custom segments which allows them to develop highly creative and granular targeting strategies.” chief executive officer Nick Moutter explained. Over the last year, Admedo has built an impressive client roster, including Monster, Hotcourses Group, Robert Half, MotoDirect Digital and many more. The innovative start-up has

City of Lincoln Council, U.K. Selects Siklu’s High-Capacity Wireless Links for its Smart City Surveillance Network The City of Lincoln Council upgraded 300 CCTV cameras to a new wireless high definition 4K HD system after a £400,000 investment. Siklu Inc., the global market leader in mmWave solutions, announced today that its wireless radios have been deployed in the City of Lincoln, United Kingdom. These systems provide 14 high capacity wireless data links in support of a modern IP networked CCTV system, primarily to provide surveillance for the city and public spaces. The new wireless network is part of the Vision 2020 project announced last year. Vision 2020 is a three-year plan to build a Smart City improving the city’s infrastructure, roadways and parks and includes investing in a new transportation hub. Previously the cities CCTV system was transmitted back on traditional analogue fiber circuits, these were both costly and bandwidth limiting. To install the wireless network, the City of Lincoln Council worked closely with security systems integrator Videcom Security Ltd, a company specializing in large multisite Town and City Centre public safety CCTV systems. Videcom chose Siklu as their wireless partner following previous successes in Watford, London Borough Richmond,
Ipswich and Cambridge City where Siklu hardware had already been successfully deployed, demonstrating the best cost and performance solution. The project involved installing Siklu’s mmWave EtherHaul™ E-band radios to deliver 1 Gbps full duplex capacity for the main backhaul resilient ring over the 80 GHz frequency. Utilizing Siklu’s Layer 2 switch functionality to deliver resiliency and diversity routing, the network provides ‘mission critical’ up-time with automatic fail-over. In addition, Videcom installed Siklu’s 60 GHz V-band frequency radios to connect 300 cameras at the street level including city wide Urban Traffic Cameras. Ultralow latency combined with high reliability and accurate forecasted uptime and resilience, added weight to the tendered design and installation. Significant cost savings on transmission and reduction in maintenance have also helped to reduce the total lifetime cost of the CCTV system. “At Videcom we have always been impressed with the level of support
and in particular Siklu’s commitment to training of our engineers and the ongoing direct support offered,” said Bill Mead Managing Director of Videcom Security. “We are pleased to work closely with Siklu and are looking forward to the next project.” The extended CCTV camera coverage, including the creation of a Safe Zone, utilizing Siklu radios connecting high specification Dahua cameras is already providing significant results, both proactively and reactively. Spare transmission bandwidth is allowing the planning of smart services to the City as well as Wi-Fi connectivity and car park data sharing. “We’re pleased to have had such a successful working relationship with Videcom Security on numerous projects throughout the United Kingdom,” said Eyal Assa, Siklu’s CEO. “The recent project with the City of Lincoln Council is part of our commitment to providing the most reliable, interference free mmWave technology available to the market for Smart City and surveillance system networks.”

‘Excellent’ or ‘Very Good.’ Heathrow’s operational team this year has worked to improved flight punctuality so now a record 80.2% of flights depart within 15 minutes of theirscheduled departure. Passengers in Terminal 5 enjoyed new terminal offers in 2017 like the ‘First Wing’ fast-track, dedicated security lanes to the British Airways’ lounge. Heathrow Chief Commercial Officer Ross Baker said: “To have two of our terminals be voted amongst the world’s top five is testament to the hard work our
team has done to transform Heathrow for the better. We are tremendously pleased our passengers are not only voting for us through these awards – but also with their feet – as we saw with this year’s record breaking numbers. Going forward, we will continue to invest in Heathrow to give passengers an enjoyable, reliable and affordable journey every time they travel through the airport.”
