Testimonials
“The professionalism and quality of the staff at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, the Sheraton, the Washington Pavilion, rivals and even exceeds bigger cities where you would pay more for less service. Fifteen years of experience and I had never had an event run so smoothly. Our small meeting never felt ‘small’, and the summit certainly was not just another date in their calendars . You sincerely know you’re more than a number when the General Manager of the convention center is helping move boxes for your program. You become as much a part of their team as they become of yours. We hope that future events can be scheduled in such a welcoming city.”
“The Summit League basketball tournament has been a resounding success in Sioux Falls. From the first year in 2009, the tournament has set record attendance and we continue to see a substantial commitment from everyone involved in our championships. The level of success we have achieved in Sioux Falls gives our league a solid base to build in the years ahead. We are excited the Summit League Basketball Championships will be hosted in Sioux Falls through 2014."
– Edward M. Shipley, Senior Manager, Biotechnology Industry Organization
– Tom Douple, Summit League Commissioner.
“From the beginning you had vision and determination to host a memorable conference; YOU accomplished that and more… CONGRATULATIONS! The 2011 National Conference held in Sioux Falls, has registered in my “history book of meeting planning” as warm, friendly, hospitable, unique, heart-felt, enriching, intense and…one of the BEST conferences Volunteers of America has offered in a long time!”
– Teresa Alfaro, Volunteers of America

THE FALLS OF THE BIG SIOUX RIVER have been a focus of life in the region throughout history. Native American people were the first to visit the falls and bring stories of them to European explorers. They have been the focus of recreation and industry since the founding of the city in 1856. Today the park covers 42 acres. Each second, an average of 7,400 gallons of water drop 80 feet over the course of the falls.

Augustana College Offering a Perfect Setting for Youth and Education Events
2001 S. Summit Avenue Sioux Falls, SD 57197 ph: 800.727.2844 or 605.274.4546 augie.edu
Augustana College provides a perfect setting for summer youth camps, education conferences and church gatherings. Perfect not only because of our location in the heart of America, in one of its greatest small cities, but also because of our beautiful, lush, 100-acre campus with great facilities, comfortable residence halls, exceptional food service and gracious people. The College has a long history of hosting a variety of summer activities and events and welcomes your organization to campus.

Because our mission is education, we specialize in providing accommodations for youth activities of all kinds. Every summer the College hosts a music camp and sports camps including football, basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball. We can provide sleeping accommodations for 300 with 150 double occupancy rooms. We often provide lodging for traveling soccer teams who come to Sioux Falls, one of America’s soccer hotbeds, to compete in regional and national tournaments. In addition to having a variety of playing fields and courts, the College’s athletic and recreation facility includes a swimming pool, racquetball courts and fitness center. The abundance of academic facilities on campus provides an ideal location for education conferences. Many of our classrooms are equipped with the latest in research and teaching technologies. Larger lecture rooms, a recital hall, theatre and chapel also provide alternative settings to meet your needs.
The Madsen Center, home to the College’s social science division, contains a variety of classrooms, seminar rooms and laboratories. Two 30-station computer labs are located in the building’s lower level. Morrison Commons is the student center. It contains the main dining room, which seats 400 for dinner or 500 for receptions, and dramatically overlooks the center of campus. The building also contains multiple meeting rooms that are designed to accommodate large and small groups. Augustana’s Edith Mortenson Center is a newly-renovated facility that contains a 274-seat theatre, an actor’s studio and the Wagoner Student Street, a perfect setting for small to mid-sized gatherings. The College’s athletic and recreation facility, the Elmen Center, contains the Hall Sports Forum which has seating for 4,000 and four basketball courts as well as a swimming pool and multi-purpose room. The College’s athletic programs compete at the NCAA Division II level.

Motorcoach Regulations Becoming acquainted with South Dakota motorcoach regulations and doing some pre-trip planning will save time for a pleasant tour. 1. If your vehicle consumes special fuel (diesel or liquid petroleum gas), you may purchase a special fuel user’s temporary trip permit for $20. It is valid until you leave the state of South Dakota. If you plan to operate in South Dakota on a regular basis, you may file an application for a special fuel user’s license with the Department of Revenue and Regulation. If you are licensed under IFTA program in your base state, South Dakota will honor that license. 2. If a vehicle is not displaying apportioned plates from an IRP State, the carrier can purchase a temporary trip permit (Highway Use Receipt) from the Department of Public Safety for a $15 fee. Temporary trip permits may be obtained by calling the South Dakota Permit Center at (605) 698-3925. Hub N’ Spoke from Sioux Falls (sample) South Dakota Wine Trail Within a radius of 60 miles around Sioux Falls you can explore a variety of traditional home-grown South Dakota wines. Begin your wine tasting in a “house of straw” located on a South Dakota acreage and insulated for a prairie-style wine cellar in an atmosphere of country farm living. Move on to a “family farm winery” and an old style barn while enjoying the flavor of dandelion wine. If you decide to travel a bit further head south to get acquainted with “resort style” wine tasting in South Dakota’s first established winery. Along the northern route of Sioux Falls discover a “rural and tranquil” wine tasting atmosphere that began from a homemade wine kit. Experience wine tasting, South Dakota style, from an assortment of wines made from products produced by local growers, from dry to sweet, red to white, grape, fruit, and honey. Newton Hills State Park NewtonHills@state.sd.us 605.987.2263 (30 miles Southeast of Sioux Falls - 45 Minutes) Glaciers created this narrow strip of rolling hills and forest that is part of the geological formation called the Coteau des Prairie, which extends along the eastern boundary of South Dakota. At its highest point, the Coteau rises to more than 2,000 feet above sea level. The area’s unique dark forest, amidst a vast open prairie, has prompted many recent legends, including those of buried gold, robbers’ hideouts and horse thieves. This 948-acre state park south of Sioux Falls features modern campgrounds, log-style camping cabins, wooded picnic sites, trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding, and an observation tower. Artifacts and burial mounds found near the park indicate that a Woodland Indian Culture inhabited this region between 300 B.C. and 900 A.D. Interpretative programs are offered to visitors during the summer months. Home to the annual Sioux River Folk Festival each August. Palisades State Park PalisadesPark@state.sd.us 605.594.3824 (22 miles Northeast of Sioux Falls - 30 Minutes) Unusual terrain and a colorful past make Palisades State Park one of the most unique areas in South Dakota. Split Rock Creek, which flows through the park, is lined with Sioux quartzite formations varying from shelves several feet above the water to 50foot vertical cliffs. Scenic overlooks and rushing water make Palisades a popular getaway. The park is popular among campers, sightseers, picnickers, rock climbers and hikers. A popular legend tells of Jesse James’ daring escape near the area. After robbing a bank in Northfield, Minnesota, the James boys spent several days in a cave on Split Rock Creek. When Jesse finally abandoned the hiding place, he was surprised to find a posse close behind. Reaching Devil’s Gulch, legend has it that he leaped across the sheer walls to elude the lawmen. A small foot-bridge now spans the gap, which is found two miles north of Palisades in a Garretson city park. Below Devil’s Gulch is the Split Rock Creek, that runs along red Sioux Quartzite cliffs, wildlife, and flowers. Visitors can purchase tickets for a Jesse James Pontoon Ride for a relaxing adventure.
