Blohm+Voss Collaborates with Zaha Hadid Architects on Line of Unique Circle Yachts Technical innovations have placed Blohm+Voss at the forefront

of the yacht market. In more recent years, the brand has been behind some of the most prestigious and innovative vessels, and in 2013, collaborated with Zaha Hadid Architects on the Unique Circle Yachts by Zaha Hadid Architects for Blohm+Voss, which incorporates ZHA’s 128m master prototype introduced at their London exhibit and Blohm+Voss’ practical aspects. Their collaboration encompasses five individual 90m yachts that creatively explore the design philosophies of the master prototype within the technical requirements of a fully engineered yacht design. The overall design is informed by fluid dynamics and underwater ecosystems, with hydrodynamic research shaping the design of the hull. The exoskeleton structure of the upper section is an interwoven network of supports that vary in thickness and lend a natural aesthetic to the yacht’s external appearance, evoking the organic structural systems of natural marine formations and connecting the various levels and decks of the ship seamlessly via expressive diagonals. Whereas traditional yacht designs adhere to a strict horizontal order, this exoskeleton creates an intense connectivity between the various decks and elements of the design. The fluid design language of the master prototype has been applied to the five subsequent 90m variations of the Unique Circle Yachts, creating a design with the highest correlation between the various options. Car of 2014 Rolls-Royce Wraith

is no stranger to luxurious, innovative designs. Rather than stay complacent, however, the brand produced a gamechanging vehicle with the Wraith. Clientele Luxury Managing Director Erin Green gave the vehicle a test drive at the media event at the Cannon Suites Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona, where the top luxury media outlets were present. With its detailed, high-powered design, customization, and boundary-pushing features, the Wraith clearly is the Top Luxury Car for 2014 – and the year hasn’t even started yet. Rolls-Royce calls the Wraith the most potent, technologicallyadvanced car – and one for the curious, confident, and bold. While based on the Ghost, the Wraith clearly goes above and beyond, adding far more features and engineering to what has been the best for the brand. Rolls-Royce announced this top-notch car on January 18, 2013, but its official debut doesn’t actually come until early 2014. Celebrities are already clamoring after it, most notably with boxer Floyd Mayweather, 12 | www.ClienteleLuxury.com

Jr. purchasing the Wraith in advance. The Lancia Aurelia Coupe and the Maserati Ghibli supposedly inspired the Wraith. But if you’re familiar with the brand’s history, the name first emerged with a 1938 to 1939 model. At the time, RollsRoyce had the only running chassis. Beyond the name and rearhinged doors, however, the similarities end. Serbian designer Pavle Trpinac created the 2014 Wraith’s chassis, and right now, the vehicle’s considered the fastest and most luxurious car Rolls-Royce has built so far. Extravagance pervades all aspects of the car, starting with the highly-detailed interior. Phantom-grade natural-grain leather, chrome bullet tips, recessed piping, and soft wool carpets elevate the four-seat spacious interior, while Rolls-Royce takes design a step further with the canadel paneling in open grain. The technicians putting together the Wraith angled the wood veneer at 55 degrees and curved it perfectly around each door. The result is a precise mirror image going through the car’s center. Customization makes a major selling point for this vehicle, and

LUXE ON THE ROAD for the interior, this extends to the 1,340 hand-sewn fiber optics in the headliner. A star-filled sky – able to be designed in a constellation pattern of your choice – results, running and controlled by the dimmer. Customization goes to the exterior, as well. Although solid color choices are available, Rolls-Royce may do a two-tone paint job in shades of your selection and further offers a choice of three exclusive wheel designs: the standard 20-inch seven spoke, the 21-inch seven spoke, and the five-spoke part polished. The appearance becomes even more dramatic and commanding with a strongly-recessed grille, twin exhausts, and frameless coach doors with stainless steel handles. Advertisements highlight the intuitive GPS and gear-changing feature, but the exterior remains unaffected. A rear deck made out of composite carbon holds the antenna, which would otherwise protrude. Outside of these innovative exterior elements, Rolls-Royce’s classic construction characterizes the Wraith. You’ll find the brand’s typical 2:1 proportions for the wheel to body height, the long rear overhang, and the self-righting wheel centers. Rolls-Royce has been quick to point out that, beyond the aesthetic elements, the Wraith is a driver’s car. Although the drive and steering are remarkably smooth and the engine nearly soundless, technological additions create a safer, more intuitive ride. Specifically, satellite-guided GPS data determines the conditions on the road ahead and then decides the best gear. As a result, the Wraith doesn’t go through unnecessary gear changes.

Technological advances enhance the inside, as well. A Wireless Car hot spot keeps passengers connected, while music or directions are just a swipe away with the Spirit of Ecstasy Rotary Controller. Just slightly pinch or pull it to zoom in or out, or outline a letter or use voice controls to access contacts, record, or send notes. Rolls-Royce’s advances further go to the engine, and true to the assertions, it’s literally the most powerful in the brand’s history. A 6.6 liter, twin-turbo charged, V12 engine gives 624 bhp, with 800 Nm of torque. The driver, as a result, can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds. However, partly due to the electronicallycontrolled air suspension, driving gives the feel of a magic carpet ride. Each Wraith ultimately can be as unique as the owner wants it to be, within reason. Rolls-Royce’s configuration feature lets you be in control of the design process, allowing you to explore all stylistic possibilities. Before you purchase, the feature lets you see the car from different angles in multiple settings. Beyond Clientele Luxury’s viewing and test drive of the Wraith in Scottsdale, the vehicle has been unveiled in several locations across the globe, starting with the 2013 Geneva Motor Show earlier in 2013. Giving auto enthusiasts and luxury seekers a taste before its official debut in January 2014, the Wraith has further been seen at Harrods department store in London, the Beijing Artzone, and many more locations in the United States, Europe, and Asia. ■

Liberty Coach Leading the Luxury Coach Industry

hen one associates an image of traveling on the road in luxury, Liberty Coach is practically inescapable. The family-owned company, founded in 1968 and incorporated in 1972, has sought out high-quality motor coach construction since inception and has since turned into an industry innovator in regards to style, interior design, and technology. Frank X. Konigseder, the company’s Vice President, began as a mechanical engineer. “I basically got into the sales position and engineering position because of being a family-owned business,” he told us. “You pretty much do what’s needed to be done.” Parents Frank and Jeanne Konigseder started the company. What makes a Liberty Coach so unique? Quality and elegance pervade the inside and outside, from reliable operation to the selected interior fabrics, custom cabinetry, and technology and remote-control systems for dimming the lights to raising and lowering the blinds. New motor homes fetch from $1.95 million to $2.2 million, while used ones go from $350,000 to $1.6 million. These days, Liberty Coach designs begin with a Prevost bus shell, and the company builds everything else. Interiors of tiled bathrooms and Tempur-Pedic mattresses have been compared to five-star hotel rooms, but the company’s first project was, in fact, a Greyhound bus with 2.5 million miles on it. 60 | www.ClienteleLuxury.com

“The designs for the interiors are created by my brother Kurt Konigseder and the interior appointment for design is done by his wife, Kim,” Konigseder said. “We started utilizing the Prevost shell in 1978, and have been exclusive with Prevost since that time. Prior to that, we were using used Greyhound bus chassis.” Konigseder opened the company’s sales and service facility in Stuart, Fla., in 2001. The location’s particularly ideal for customers east of the Mississippi River who travel through the Southeast. As well, after partnering with coach makers for decades, Liberty Coach opened its own plant in North Chicago. “I opened up our dealership here in Stuart, Florida in October 2001, and we have been very, very successful coming through a very, very difficult economy, to say the least, from 2008 to 2010,” he explained. “That’s something that I and my family are very proud of.” For the 2013 line of motor coaches, the company partnered with Dean Loucks, who created a range of custom paint jobs. “The partnership with Dean Loucks came about many years ago,” he began. “It was about 20-plus years ago, and he and I got together, and he has done specialty projects during those years: If we needed a large mural done on the side of the coach, or needed a complete coach painted for a specific purpose, such as a coach that we built for a wine company by the name of Brassfield in California – that was a complete wine vineyard that was painted on the side of the coach.” Talking about their more recent partnership, he went onto add: “And, for 2011, actually, we got together, and I was looking for Liberty Coach to step out of the box, if you will, from the normal Prevost paint schemes, since Prevost had been painting the coaches utilizing their designs and the designs that we had also come up with in 1978,” he said. “And, everything was looking the same. No matter who was the coach converter, our competition, ourselves, whatever, it all looked the same coming down the road. So I wanted to step out of that box and do something completely different. And then Dean and I, again in 2011, decided that we could put something together exclusively, and at the current production rate that we are at, which is between 14 to 16 units a year, he can paint all of those for us, and each one of them different and have their own theme to them.” Each features a beautiful, unique exterior design that varies from coach to coach. Konigseder has several plans for Liberty Coach’s future. “We believe that the marketplace is going to come back in some fashion in the next few years, so we intend on increasing our production to accommodate that,” he stated. We are always trying to step outside of that box and make something more interesting and desirable for our current customer base and people we desire to attract.” ■

The native of Willmar, Minn., took on the position when former president David Archibald retired after 11 years. Shepherd’s extensive experience and background in sales and marketing operations, dealer relations, and franchise management in the luxury automotive sector made him ideal for the the superluxury market Rolls-Royce targets. As Regional Director for North America, Shepherd manages 37 dealers in the United States and Canada- considered the largest market in the world for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars --and reports to Josh Nash, Global Director of Sales and Marketing. Prior to joining Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Shepherd was Regional General Manager, Southern Region for Mercedes-Benz USA, a role he took on in 2008. In his five years as a sales team leader and marketing strategist, he successfully took the Southern Region through the worst economic period in the automotive industry in almost three decades. During this point, the Southern Region surged ahead as the topperforming region in the US, based on market shares, sales growth, and dealer profitability. Thomas D. Mangelson

World’s Top Nature Photographer

homas D. Mangelson, known as one of the world’s top nature photographers, attributes his success and love of nature to his father, Harold Mangelson. As a child, he accompanied his father to watch migrating flocks of ducks, geese, and cranes at Platte River in Nebraska, learning in the process the key qualities for nature photography: patience, waiting for the right moment, and understanding how animals behave. While Mangelson started studying business at the University of Nebraska, he later transferred to Doane College, where he graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Biology. His interests and educational background led to post-graduate studies in zoology and wildlife biology at the University of Nebraska and Colorado State University. Mangelson’s big career break came in 1974, when he worked as a cinematographer and had the chance to shoot whooping cranes for National Geographic. His footage resulted in the Emmy-nominated television program Flight of the Whooping Crane. This wouldn’t be his last time filming the species. Mangelson later went to produce and photograph the lifecycle of the sandhill crane for the PBS Nature and BBC Natural World film Cranes of the Grey Wind. Throughout his lengthy career, Mangelson’s photography has been showcased in magazines, on television, in museums, and in books, including National Geographic, Life, Audubon, National Wildlife, Smithsonian, Natural History, Newsweek, Wildlife Art, American Photo, The Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN’s World News, and ABC’s World News Tonight with Peter Jennings. Vital Signs: Images of Biodiversity, opened at the San Diego Natural History Museum in 1997 and since shown at other U.S. and Canadian locations, included his work. Mangelson’s photographs have further been seen at the Natural History Museum in London, the Joslyn

Art Museum in Omaha, and the Natural Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming. As well, his work was featured in the following books: Images of Nature: The Photographs of Thomas D. Mangelsen, written by noted biologist Charles Craighead; Polar Dance: Born of the North Wind, written by Fred Bruemmer, Spirit of the Rockies: The Mountain Lions of Jackson Hole, by author Cara Shea Blessley; and The Natural World, with a foreword by Dr. Jane Goodall.
