LETTER FROM THE ASSOCIATE PUBLISHER
W
e are really excited about this issue of Coastal Luxury Properties. For the first time since beginning this venture, we are showcasing a property in Brevard County on our cover. You’ll be entranced by the beautiful estate, Meander. This 17,000+ square feet villa, sitting on 9 acres between the Banana River and the Intra Coastal Waterway on Merritt Island, is reminiscent of the very popular South Florida Mizner designed architecture. I don’t want to steal from the story, which is a must read, but there are so many gorgeous, and fun, design elements in this home that you do not want to miss. On other pages we’re going to take you to a few travel destinations that have a wide range from a remote island in Queensland, Australia to visiting a gorgeous luxury vacation home in Los Cabos, then on to an incredible Tuscany farm house escape voted by Forbes as "The Most Idyllic Place to Live." Who doesn’t want to hear and see the latest innovations from Rolls-Royce. Recent news from the iconic automobile maker, a leader in luxury the world over and regarded, since 1904, as one of the most exceptional motor cars designed, is included in this issue. This season in Florida means a lot of things happening, including the return of our Northern visitors and seasonal residents, Thanksgiving and important holidays and a chance to renew friendships and visit with old friends and family. Here at Dale Sorensen Real Estate we love to look back on our year. We’ve seen remarkable growth for our own company, opening offices in Historic Cocoa Village and in the charming town of Sebastian, moving our Viera/Baytree office to a prime location and opening sales centers in the beautiful communities of Grand Harbor and Sea Oaks Beach and Tennis Club. We now have more than 200 sales agents and support staff providing exceptional customer service to our clients, both here in the States and abroad. Our London office continues to be successful, allowing us to showcase our client’s properties quite easily in the UK. We are on track to eclipse all previous years’ sales numbers and that is not an easy feat. But thanks to our wonderful agents and staff, our extraordinary training and marketing, we continue to surpass our goals, still as a family owned company. This time of year, we also look at how much more we can give back to our community and those in need, during the wonderful season of giving. We know that you, our loyal and generous readers, also think of others, and we thank you for that. Enjoy this issue of Coastal Luxury Properties and have a wonderful season!

Meander
A VILLA OF DREAMS Meander. The word evokes a sense of leisure and serenity. When it’s the name given to an estate, one truly expects the home to be a place of calm, joy and beauty. The grandeur of Meander is apparent the moment your eyes rest upon the stately front elevation. It takes a slightly deeper look to understand exactly why the name fits.

COVER STORY
The home was designed in the style of Addison Mizner, a renowned American architect whose Mediterranean and Spanish Colonial Revival style is evident throughout South Florida. Barrel tile roofing, ornate exterior window trim, wrought iron work and an abundance of balconies are all Mizner touches that are seen throughout Meander. The exterior of the property is a charming mix of aged old oaks and meticulously designed hedges and landscaping. The property is rich with a variety of fruits from carambola to mangos, tangerines, avocados, lychees, and figs. The front of this grand home is warm and peaceful with soft lighting in the evening beckoning to those who arrive via the circular drive. Wide stairs lead to the expansive porch and double hand forged Cantera front doors and once through the entry, time slips away and it’s as if you’ve crossed the Atlantic and entered a European villa. A sweeping mahogany staircase draws the eyes upward, settling on a glittering chandelier and fresco medallion on the entryway’s ceiling. Step down into an expansive formal living room framed by four regal Doric columns. The room is anchored by a floor to ceiling fireplace created with a custom mantel featuring Corinthian columns. A wall of floor to ceiling windows brings the river view indoors. Warm glowing wood floors finish the elegance here. This polished room is designed on a grand scale that is simply breathtaking. All rooms in this home are generous but the Chef's kitchen is substantial and unparalleled with an enormous center island, double Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezers, Thermidor 8 burner gas range, Fisher Paykel dishwasher drawers and Miele espresso center. From the marble floors to the custom designed wood trey ceiling, this room has a generous display of old world luxurious finishes and details. The creamy white furniture style cabinetry and granite counter
tops provide lots of space for creating gourmet meals. Adjacent to the kitchen is a butler’s pantry and breakfast or informal dining room. The beautiful formal dining room features gorgeous marble floors inlaid with wood and an intricately designed trey ceiling. The dining room comfortably seats a large dining party with lots of room for those imported buffets and cabinets worthy of such a room. The family room features a beautifully designed wood trey ceiling and an expansive wall of windows to view those evening sunsets over the river. A bar with built-in wine rack is perfect for cocktail hour. Of course, this home would not be complete without a wine cellar. This one appears to have been transported from Tuscany with beautiful tile flooring, faux painted walls and ceiling. The first-floor master suite, just off the formal living room, also has a custom designed trey ceiling, herringbone pattern wood floors and French glass doors leading to the patio. The coup de resistance is a beautiful fireplace with a marble base and a lovely carved mantle. The suite’s sitting room is the perfect place to curl up with a cup of tea and a romantic novel. To call the master closet and dressing room massive is an under-statement. With dozens of drawers and hanging closets, plush carpeting underfoot and glowing chandelier, this room will cater to the most sophisticated tastes. The ensuite is centered with a stand-alone spa tub and features his and hers vanities and a double walk in shower. The unique marble counters and wood tub encasement gives a rich warmth to the room. Perhaps the most interesting room in this magnificent home is the study. One can almost imagine sitting at the circular bar for after dinner drinks and conversation, or lounging in the warm leather furniture. The ceiling is designed with a large wood framework of beams and recessed lighting.

Great Barrier Reef
Haggerstone Island L
ocated in the remote region of Far North Queensland, Haggerstone Island sits as a small paradise among the colorful corals and the Northern Great Barrier Reef’s untouched waters. Owners Roy and Anna Turner pioneered the island in 1985, arriving with nothing but a barge and encountering an uninhabited jungle island hundreds of miles from civilization. 30 years on, a resort has been created, with the villas – each with a private beachfront, an open floor plan, thatching, natural timbers, and a sea view – blending seamlessly within the tropical landscape. Haggerstone Island offers a rugged yet luxurious experience, focused towards gourmet food and adventure in the surrounding ocean and islands. Haggerstone centers around the Main Pavilion, a facility characterized by a 50-foot timber pole rising from the center of the timber floor and also by the 12 in. thick thatched grass roof, heavy wood beams and rafters, and a stone fireplace set into the exterior timber deck. Being the initial building Anna and Roy constructed and taking about five years to complete, it serves as the resort’s social gathering point. Here, you’ll find such essentials as a library, bar, wine cellar, lounge, dining area, an open-plan kitchen, and an observation deck. Architecturally, it borrows from the Pacific region: Alang Alang grass from Bali, driftwood supports, a Papuan canoe, crocodile heads, an ancient dinner gong. Closer to the ocean, the Jetty extends the island’s timber designs out onto the water, albeit in a bolder yet romantic setting. A perfect spot for watching the marine life at its most secluded, it utilizes aged timbers and a thatch roof. A round stone fireplace mimicking that of the Main Pavilion sits on the outer decking, with the water lapping below. It makes an ideal place to see both the beginning and end of the day: Why not stroll down to watch the dawn, or enjoy a glass of champagne while watching the sunset? With adventure being one of the island’s most powerful pulls, the surrounding waters serve as your introduction to the Great Barrier Reef’s marine life, from stingrays to turtles and alligator gar to the local sardine population. Your stay opens up a true opportunity to explore the region, whether that’s passing by shallow reefs of every color in a 40-foot 700HP jet boat, or fishing nearby in the untouched river systems for barramundi, Coastal Luxury Properties | 17

fingermark, estuarine cod, and other species. Seemingly endless stunning reefs for spearfishing and snorkeling allow you to explore gardens of coral – and an 1840s shipwreck. For the "hunter-gatherers” at heart, the reef offers another unparalleled experience – spearfishing the region’s abundant coral trout, fingermark, Spanish mackerel, and crayfish. Inland presents its own array of excursions. While you can explore on your own, the resort recommends chartering a helicopter to see waterfalls, untouched river systems, and sand-cays from overhead. After a day of exploration, guests sit down for a gourmet feast created from freshly caught or home-grown ingredients. And, it’s quite literally as fresh as it gets: Seafood is sourced from the ocean earlier that same day, while various herbs, fruits, and vegetables from the resort’s garden come together in exquisite and innovative meals. For the Turners, cultivating the orchard started in the resort's early days, and after much trial and error over the years, it grows some of the most quintessentially tropical ingredients – passionfruit, coconuts, butternut, bok choy, lemongrass, mango, and kafir lime, all of which are integral to the day’s three main meals. www.haggerstoneisland.com.au ■

bespoke offering for the car’s front dashboard and instrument panel called “The Gallery.” This entirely new concept transforms the space into a display of fine art and owners are encouraged to work with their favorite designers and artists to create a unique display for their Gallery. Rolls-Royce has already worked with a number of artists, designers and design collectives to demonstrate what kind of creations are possible to put behind the glass of ‘The Gallery’ for the owners’ pleasure. Burberry Cashmere Check Scarf Can any scarf be more iconic? From the soft cashmere construction to the tan-based plaid pattern, this piece’s classic core lasts from year to year without changing. Although the brand has gotten away from its checkered past in recent seasons, nothing embodies the its quality and luxury more than pieces like this one.
LUXE MUST HAVES

Must Have Items Rag & Bone Duke Camel Hair Coat These days, “camel coat” has come to mean any light tan, structured jacket. With this longer, single-button style, Rag & Bone weaves it out of actual camel hair, giving you a lightweight, transitional piece that takes you from fall’s cooler days through winter as a fashionable layer over sweaters and turtleneck.
Moncler Choisia Asymmetric Zip Jacket with Fur Trim No one can escape the motorcycle jacket trend, so why not embrace it on your own terms? This fitted, rebellious silhouette forms this jacket’s foundation, down to the asymmetrical front and wrist zips. Yet, aspects like quilted stitching and goat fur trim consider the blustery days ahead, infusing this jacket with both stylish and practical qualities.
Hermes Orange Cashmere Scarf Just as bold and elegant as the Birkin – and tons softer. What might be your season-long companion effortlessly wraps around your neck and, in the process, adds a bold pop of color with its solid, smoldering orange hue.
Chloe Knitted Sweater Soft-pink marled knit and contrast trim take this sweater back to Chloe’s origins, but like many of this season’s trends, the reworked ‘70s piece never seems dated. As such, its luxurious wool blend, infused with a touch of soft cashmere and mohair, does double duty: making a cold-weather statement against your skinny jeans, structured blazer, and knee-high boots and keeping your body heat close on chilly days.
Acne Studios Raine Cutout Ribbed Alpaca Blend Turtleneck Sweater Too many sweaters simply settle for unstructured slouchiness. Not so with this piece. Acne Studios, with this ‘70s bohoinfluenced style, understands the strength of an accent, combining its classic, ribbed exterior with feminine ruffled bell sleeves and a tied cutout back. Okinawa’s Main Island
Perhaps the world’s best-known “blue cave” and the most famous scuba-diving and snorkeling spot on Okinawa’s main island, a series of caves appears to almost radiate once you’re inside. Completely covered in light from the outside, the formations feature a calcareous sea floor, pure white in color, and once sun shines through, it appears to illuminate the whole structure. And, throughout the day, the color’s intensity shifts. To visit this year-round destination, schedule a swimming, diving, or boating trip from Cape Maeda of Onna Village.
TO STAY
Location Gaiole in Chianti, overlooking the historic Vertine castle. Property is approximately 45 minutes northeast of Siena.
T H E FARM H O USE
A stay in luminous Tuscany deserves nothing less than this—a 16th century farmhouse estate occupying a hillside in the Chianti Classico of Tuscany and enfolded in a lush landscape of olive groves, Italian cypress trees and rolling vineyards. The estate’s near neighbor, the Medieval castle Vertine, sits majestically within view and provides the estate with its name: La Veduta di Vertine, or “The View of Vertine.” Less than an hour’s drive from Florence and a half hour from Siena, La Veduta di Vertine is fully engaged with its pastoral setting. Hens from the estate’s coop provide fresh eggs, delivered each morning in a basket in time for breakfast. An organic garden offers up a bounty of fresh vegetables, plucked for you at their ripest point. The kitchen pantry is stocked with olive oil cold-pressed from green and black olives cultivated just outside, and a stone wine cave steps down from the kitchen cradles bottles of wine produced, of course,
from the surrounding vineyard’s grapes. You can’t get closer to the land than this. A stroll through the estate’s countryside brings you to the charming village of Gaiole, named the “Most Idyllic Place to Live in Europe” by Forbes, or to the Vertine castle village, where a quaint, stone-floor restaurant serves wine and cheeses. The farmhouse estate itself consists of a main house and a guesthouse, connected to one another by a loggia. Five bedrooms (including two master suites), plus a study, media room, dining room, and many other gathering areas combine to create a spacious yet intimate place, webbed with passageways and unexplored areas that are a delight to discover. Other standout features, among many, include an infinity pool suspended at the edge of a panoramic view of the vineyards, plus a bocce ball green, a billiard room, and a courtyard with a real wood-burning pizza oven shaded by fragrant lemon and orange trees. www.cuvee.com ■ Coastal Luxury Properties | 31
