I am currently working as an assistant designer at the Taipei Office of Singapore Consultants Private Limited (SCP). My desire to be an urbanism student at a Dutch school was influenced by my visit to the Netherlands back in 2015. During my one-month stay in the country, I was impressed by its urban layout and how Dutch people have managed to conquer and coexist with the ever-rising sea level in their “Lowland” areas. When I returned to Taiwan, I did so bearing this type of creative problem solving in mind. During a two-year span of working in the architecture field, I have dedicated my time to improving, expanding, and furthering my capabilities regarding architecture studies, and more specifically, urbanism.
life is about going into unknown.
As an architecture professional, I am concerned about social as well as environmental issues, as a result, my bachelor thesis focused on creating a self-sufficient community for underprivileged people, a topic which I devoted my time to from July 2014 to June 2015. My idea for this project came from my experiences in Taipei. Here, skyrocketing property prices have made owning a house a fairytale dream; therefore, I presented a creative solution: school-renovated residences which could house self-sufficient, government-funded communities for such individuals. Not only would residents get necessary work consultations in these communities, creating better job opportunities for them, but they could also enjoy a better living standard. Years passed on bearing the same passion as it reflects on my choices for hypothetical master thesis topics. I would be either discussing how Taiwan can learn from the Netherlands in social housing policies or the possibilities for future water metropolis exemplified by Amsterdam. Considering my past architecture projects, work experience, and interest in the Netherland’s urban design, my enthusiastic for the new challenge of studying urbanism at a Dutch school couldn’t be greater. It would be a huge step forward to be admitted by a school like yours that has such a remarkable architecture program and being accepted would help me continue my passionate journey in the field of urban design.

INTERNATIONAL ELITE DISTRICT
Tutor: Chen Jing Jou chenjz@scp.com Category: Professional group project Contribution: Preliminary concept design Visual layout Date: 24th of May 2017 Located in East Africa, South Sudan is the world’s youngest country with incredible, untapped potential. After the long period of civil war, South Sudan must be built from the ground, so the country is open to and warmly welcomes foreign investment. There are abundant opportunities in all sectors of the economy, especially in petroleum, agriculture, mining and infrastructure. The vast natural resources and urgent needs have attracted foreign investors to its capital, Juba. Juba, with its good connections to neighboring Uganda and Kenya, continues to be a political, cultural and economic magnet. Currently, South Sudan maintains 23 embassies as well as 4 consulates and diplomatic offices, most located in Juba. There are a large number of international NGOs in Juba, and several United Nations offices. Meanwhile, 39 non-resident embassies are based in nearby countries instead of Juba mainly for security reasons. Expatriates coming to South Sudan are most worried about the security situation. Besides, lack of infrastructure and modern facilities make Juba a difficult place to invest, live and work. Thus, for the sake of security, comfort and prestige, our objective is to develop an elite international community in Juba to meet the demand of the distinguished ambassadors, diplomats, NGO staff, foreign corporation executives as well as the elites of South Sudanese businessmen and high-rank officials.
LOCATION Location: Juba, South Sudan Population: 12.34 million Area: 619.745 sqkm GDP: $9.015 billion (2015 World Bank)
LAYOUT PLANNING Inspiration
Africa is considered the land where lives originate. Down through the ages, human civilizations have been trailing organic fashions one way or another. Inspired by these ideas, we applied the mechanism on the design of district layout, a Bionic City is thus crafted.
Layout
Concept Drawing
The proposed ecological network is shaped by a Central Growth Backbone, two east-west and one north-south green corridors. The Central Growth Backbone links the riverside and city road served as the major landscape and public space for the project a r e a . A r o u n d t h e o t h e r t w o east-west green corridors are several residential cores consisting of villa clusters. These organic structures resemble tree branches, shaping the master plan as a whole. Public facilities are arranged on the west end of the Central Growth Backbone, served as commercial and recreational purposes.
CONCEPT Objectives
The continent of Africa has been receiving increasing investment and industrial transfer from China. As continent’s economy continues to develop, China’s recent decades of industrialization and urbanization will be of invaluable reference. As a pilot project for economic cooperation and example of China’s urban development model – IED(International Elite District) is envisioned as A new city district integrating work, recreation, lifestyle and culture. With 5 main objectives: -
To be the hub where international elites congregate. To be the centre where safety is prioritized. A self-sufficient destination for diverse services. An ecological haven with all-round functionalities. A high-quality residence for comfortable living environment.

SCHEME - “TOPSLER” In order to create a high-valued living environment, we hence propose the concept of “TOPSLER.” The abbreviation “TOPSLER” is short for Traffic, Office, Public, Security, Living, Environment and Recreation. Green Corridor
As a new city district drawing numerous international elites, security should be prioritized. Three gate controls are thus allocated to keep out potential threats. Moat and electric fences, alongside with the Emergency Notification System and surveillance cameras are presented to ensure residents 'safety.

OTHER WORKS Doodling has always been my all time favourite hobby since a very young age, as I grew up, there is less time for me to draw, but I never forget how pleasant it makes me feel. As an avid traveller, I find photography the optimal way to capture unique moments that I have experienced. It carries stories and enables them to be shared with the world. The following pages show the sketch works I have done during the first year of bachelor studies and photographic works I have taken through my travelling.
