HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! The FP boys have so enjoyed spending time with their dads at school this week! More pics inside this edition.
College Principal Our congratulations are extended to all those who completed the Comrades on the weekend. It was also heart-warming to see different runners who ran for #RobbiesWarriors in support of Robert Eddles and the SABMR (South African Bone Marrow Registry). Well done! Watching the race on television highlights all the great attributes of the race. The physical and mental challenge, the camaraderie, the sportsmanship, the selflessness as well as the agony, heartbreak and triumph. The Comrades is a “race” that we can use to draw an analogy to life, as everyone runs for themselves and has their own goals, aspirations, successes and failures/stumbling blocks. For the boys at school, and especially the Matrics this year, it is a “race” to finish the year and to achieve to the best of their individual ability. To achieve the end goal requires dedication, preparation, hard work and giving up some things which you enjoy – just as athletes have to do when they prepare for a race. On the academic front we are coming to the end of the controlled assessment/examinations in the College. The academic staff is in the process of going over the examination papers and will be having progress meetings per grade, looking at the performances of the boys in this last semester. This will mean that in some instances, remedial action will need to be taken. Please support these measures, as they are implemented with the interests of your sons at heart. It must be stressed that academic work will continue until Tuesday of next week (Grades 8-12). For the Matrics, academic lessons will continue for the whole of next week as it is an important period of consolidation and continuation of the syllabus until the end of the term.
played. In particular the players of the First Hockey XI are to be congratulated on their 4-3 win against Hilton. It was a great game of hockey which ebbed and flowed right up to the end of the last quarter. We look forward to Cultural Week, next week on Wednesday and Thursday next week. It is one of the highlights of the year. As explained in the letter which was sent out last week, some activities are phase-specific, but many involve the whole school and the boys and staff really enjoy this time. I would urge the parents to come and support the market and the music in the College Plaza on Thursday evening. In conclusion I would like to end with the following: Take time to be friendly – It is the road to happiness. Take time to dream –
It is hitching your wagon to a star. Take time to love and be loved – It is the privilege of the gods. Take time to look around – It is too short a day to be selfish. Take time to laugh – It is the music of the soul. (OLD ENGLISH PRAYER)
Enjoy the weekend with your families. Yours faithfully
We have also come to the end of the sports season in both the College and the Prep. The final Prep rugby fixtures were against Highbury, one of our traditional fixtures. It was pleasing to see the support that we got from some of our Prep Old Boys who came to support their old school. This initiative will be continued as we look forward to the Centenary of the Prep School in 2024. The College ended off their season playing Hockey against Hilton. The matches were all played in a good spirit with some excellent hockey being

Cameos
Our Grade 7 boys have been learning about 1950s Rock n Roll music during class music lessons. They wrote their own songs using instruments in ‘Garage Band’, using the famous 12 bar blues chord progression that was popular at the time as their basis. They then wrote lyrics to their songs about one of their favourite teachers. One of the groups chose to write a song about Mrs Nicky Walton who had taught some of them back when they were in Grade 2. If you haven’t already seen it, watch the video clip on the Clifton Facebook page.
Last week the Clifton staff were treated to a ‘Staff Wellness Day’, arranged by HR Manager, Mrs Taryn Watson. From companies offering staff financial and retirement advice, nurses on hand performing health checks, barbers offering gents grooming, ladies being treated with massages, manicures and more...everyone walked away feeling relaxed, informed and appreciated (Despite the look of terror on Mr Wienand’s face!). Our grateful thanks to: Dermalogica, Sorbet, Sorbet Man and Old Mutual for their generosity and enthusiasm.
Fun with dads at school!
Our Grade 4 Art boys proudly present their papiermâché cacti and painted pots. We are delighted to announce that these will be on display at the Mexican Restaurant ‘Four 15 and Plan B’ in Durban North over the next few weeks.
We’re gearing up for a fabulous feast of creativity, music, voice and more next week!
