About Denby
About Denby WHY CHOOSE DENBY
Few ceramics brands can offer the trinity of versatility, beauty and durability. At Denby we ensure everything we craft has these three things and is truly styled by life.

20 PAIRS OF HANDS ON EVERY PIECE
It takes a wide team of talented people to craft our products, along with over 200 years of experience in making ceramics in our Derbyshire pottery.
Denby is made with purpose and love, to be used and enjoyed every day.

HANDCRAFTED IN DERBYSHIRE ENGLAND SINCE 1809

FOR YOUR HOME FOR OVER 200 YEARS
ZERO TO LANDFILL

We have Zero to Landfill on our process waste and as an entire organisation have less than 1% on all other waste.

20 MILLION LITRE WATER CYCLE
Denby has its own water treatment plant and each year we purify and return to the water cycle 20 million litres of process water.

STYLED BY LIFE
Every Denby piece has been designed to work in your home - our mugs fit under coffee machines and cereal bowls have been measured to fit two Weetabix side by side. There’s detail in every Denby design which is why we’re styled by life.

RECYCLED GLAZE
Every year we recycle over 100,000 litres of glaze during the glazing process to efficiently re-use our resources.

RECYCLABLE PACKAGING
Most Denby is sold without packaging, but where it is requested by customers it is recyclable. Any incoming packaging is recycled and has been sourced responsibly. We are also investigating using alternative materials to create box-fill packing instead of plastic air-fill.
RECYCLED CLAY
The areas of land from where our clay is extracted are returned to pasture and landscaped. Because our quality standards are so high, any clay with faults is recycled, which equates to 55 tonnes of raw clay a year.
ENERGY CONSUMPTION
Our energy consumption is industryleading and consistently at least 15% lower than industry targets set.

NOT JUST FOR FOOD
From the kitchen and dining room, to the bedroom and bathroom, Denby can be used in every room. The hardy glazes will protect against everyday wear and tear and look stylish and beautiful for many years to come.
FOOD RECYCLING
We recycle all of our food waste produced in our restaurants and the staff canteen to be turned into energy and all of our cooking oil is reused to produce bio fuel.
MINIMAL TRANSPORTATION
We use clay from the doorstep enabling minimal transportation of our main raw material.

ENERGY SAVING
We are continually installing energy saving lighting systems and optimising the gas usage in our kilns.
DURABLE & SUPER STRONG
One set can be used everyday and for special occasions, indoors and out, and is safe for use in the oven, freezer, microwave and dishwasher. You can confidently use it to cook, serve and store food, and when you might otherwise use a disposable plate or cup.

KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF DENBY STONEWARE
01 | All Denby stoneware is made in the UK.
02 | Stoneware clay is very strong and fully vitrified. The surface is made glassy and non-porous which gives it strength, durability and chip resistance.
03 | It can be used safely in the dishwasher, microwave, in the oven (up to 250ºC) and in the freezer for storing foods.
04 | Each piece of pottery is still expertly glazed by craftspeople, a skill handed down from generation to generation, which makes Denby unique.
05 | It’s taken over 200 years to create the unique glazes, so the recipes are all top secret!
06 | Launching one tableware range is the result of 24 months of team work from the original design idea through to the range going into full manufacture.
07 | Each item goes through the kiln at least twice, which makes it super-strong: the first fire is at 950ºC for 18 hours, the second at 1175ºC for 16 hours.
08 | It takes approximately 2 weeks from start to finish to create a single item.
09 | As Denby is designed for living, the designers have built clever versatility features into each piece: the sugar bowl for example can be used as a dipping bowl or ramekin.
10 | Specially shaped and sized bowls are designed for every meal occasion, from breakfast to Friday night takeaway, dinner parties and everything else in-between.
11 | Denby has over 20 ranges to suit a variety of styles and interiors.
12 | We are continually working towards being more sustainable by making positive changes to lessen our impact on the environment. We recycle our clay, glazes and millions of litres of water and every year reduce our energy consumption. We are proudly the first UK tableware manufacturer to be able to claim ‘zero to landfill’ for all our process waste. In addition, we employ an Environmental Officer to ensure that Denby is constantly looking at ways to improve our sustainable approach.
