The Concerto for piano and chamber ensemble was composed in 1963 and was awarded the Schola Cantorum of Paris’ Composition Prize. It is a rather ‘raw’ piece. The piano part is most impressive but the thing that connects this concerto to the rest of the pieces of Guinjoan, is its rhythm.

Capricho Nr. 5 F. Fleta Polo
String Quartet Nr.2 . Pere Soto
3 Trombe in C and Piano –opcional-, Score+parts, pgs. 24, ref. S018
2 V. Vla. Vc. Score+parts, pgs. 128, ref. E601
The composer he does not limit himself to using the trumpet as a fanfare instrument; rather he makes use of all its resources. The piece, though not exceptionally difficult to play, is demanding at the chamber level. The piano part is optional: it reinforces the rhythmical element of the piece and can help to set tuning when the piece is played by advanced students.
In this work the composer experiments with the technique of applying sculpture to music. At the same time he incorporates improvisations with the sole purpose of letting out his feelings and constructing emotional structures, and it is then that the notes cease to have any real importance in themselves. The piece was selected alongside works and was debuted in Mexico City in 2000 by the City of Mexico Quartet.
Improvisaçao. Moisès Bertran
Sketch. Moisès Bertran
Horn & Piano. Score+part, pgs. 20, ref. E624
2 Percuss. Score, pgs. 12, ref. E623
The work is written in ternary form and broadly speaking it is composed as an improvisation. After a short introduction, appear the main lyrical theme on the horn. In the middle of the piece there is a section in a jazz style, which has some interesting figures on the piano. The most noteworthy features is its expressive depth, which is at its greatest in the soloist’s cantabile.
It is a piece for a group of small-sized percussion instruments, which includes the somewhat exotic use of a set of crystal glasses and a Musical Saw. Sketch is not a technically difficult piece but is rather a short divertimento where the main challenge relies on the subtleties of the tone.
C’était Magnifique Jesús Rodríguez Picó
Llacada Enric Ferrer
Clarinet & Piano, Score+part, pgs. 28, ref. E643
Flute & Guitar, Score, pgs. 20, ref. FG05
Various themes relating to Francis Poulenc are brought together in this composition. At the beginning, we can hear a motif suggestive of his Clarinet Sonata, next, there is an expressive, lyrical phrase, and in the third part, the ironic undertones are accentuated through the use of two melodies in a kind of collage effect; the first taken from Rossini and the other a well-known Cole Porter melody “C’est magnifique”.
Silt is the residue left behind by floodwaters as they drain out of flooded fields. This image is comparable to the feeling that the author felt after overcoming a crisis. The work describes a feeling of hope pride of having overcome.
Retrats d’un dolç instant Lluís M. Bosch
Duets d’abril Alejandro Civilotti
Flute & Guitar. Score, pgs. 16, ref. FG06
Clarinet & Guitar. Score, pgs.20, ref. E646
Portraits of a sweet moment is an evocative and suggestive piece. It consists of four short movements and represents a turning point as we change our ideas. The flute and guitar converse with nostalgia yet contained vitality. The piece was written in the autumn of 1996.
These pieces are dedicated to the memory of the composer’s nephew, Sergio Javier Godoy who died in April 2005, and were written two months later. The meaning of these four pieces for guitar and clarinet is to establish a dialogue with those questions will never be answers.
Cabòries Carlota Baldrís
Perpetuum Moisès Bertran
Double bass & Piano. (Orch. tuning & Solo tuning) Score+part, pgs. 24, ref. E657
Double bass solo. Score, pgs. 12, ref. E621
This piece was composed in 2001 It was performed by the Botessini duo. The piece seeks to reflect on the thoughts and worries that come and go, when you travel by train, while linking up with others, with those of other passengers, even, who get on and off the train, bringing their own thoughts, ever more remote, with them, with their gaze lost in infinity. Finally, the train arrives at the station and the travellers continue on with their lives.
There is a study of the possibilities offered by the double bass. The title simply reflects the most obvious feature of the piece; a continuous flow of semiquavers organised around two main thematic ideas. It is remarkable that a persistent idea in harmonic interval gives way to the true perpetuum.
Protostonfera Pere Soto
Suite de Tamanrasset Anna Bofill
Percussion solo. Score, pgs. 20, ref. E616
Guitar solo. Score, pgs. 16, ref. AC313
It is a brilliant work that is difficult to perform and includes the best of the author’s jazzbased repertoire. The composer say, “The skill of a percussionist in creating highly complex rhythms and multi-rhythms and the search for exotic timbres is a boundless source of inspiration”.
Was composed in 1978 following a visit to Algeria and the Sahara desert, Tamanrasset. The premiere was in 2006 by the Australian guitarist Rene Mora. The Suite de Tamanrasset is structured into four movements in which liberty and the sensation of improvisation prevail, while at the same time exploring the various resources of the guitar.

Recordant Miquel Llobet Moisès Bertran
Guitar solo. Score, pgs. 12, ref. E617
Guitar solo. Score, pgs. 12, ref. E620
These two pieces for guitar to mark the centenary of Francisco Tàrrega, were commissioned by the guitarist David Sanz. Conte breu (Short story) the virtuosic nature by use of fast notes and the oriental motifs that Tàrrega used in some of his works; and Estudi 1 (Study 1) there are some quite rhythmic, dancing passages, but it also has some lyrical and introspective, as well as dramatic, moments.
Remembering Miquel Llobet, it is a Song and Dance for solo guitar, the idea of working on a simple melody popular at the Song, and on the main theme of one of Chopin’s Mazurkas for piano in the Dance. From the Song, one can emphasize so typical of the Catalan song style, and from the Dance, the colourful harmonic and melodic variations and the mention of a Catalan song El Cant dels Ocells (The Birdsong).
Impressions per a piano Mercè Torrents
Matices de Esperanza Consuelo Colomer
Piano solo. Score, pgs. 12, ref. E635
Piano solo. Score, pgs. 12, ref. E618
Two Impressions for piano are composed in the traditional form of a piano piece. The first piece forces the left hand to work in an obstinate rhythm of semi-quavers and this element then passes to the right hand in the second work, while they both give off a serious, delicate air, painted with popular melodies that are perfectly in keeping with the origins of the work.
Nuances of hope is really a music for hope: The texture of the work is vertical, with repetitive rhythmic formulas and popular turns. But let us not be deceived; this is a very difficult piece, as the performer must seek the right atmosphere at each moment.
