The site is a part of the open public space in Rotterdam. It connects the railwaystation and the greenland in the north. From Rotterdam railwaystation to the river, the open space is used for market. However, on the other days, the large scale space is empty.

The design divides the large scale space into four parts. The south part is for the market. The middle square open up to the street Meent for shops. The north part reacts to the greenland. Based on the surrounds, the outdoor space is separeted into parts with different quality.

The black blocks enclose three outdoor space in the site. The red square open the site coner to the Meent. The yellow space is surrounded by the public program like library, market and shops. The green square connects the site to the greenland. These squares are the transition from the market to the park, from lively to quiet atmosphere.

Arcades are used as transitions between outside and inside. They also connect all the squares to creat a comfortable walking environment. It provides places for the spontaneous activities.

From the case study, the circulation hubs and survice space are organized as a core. In the design, the cores are put on the backside of the building, so shops and living rooms coud be organized around the square.

The window opening rate in image 1 is bigger indicating the public quality of the building.introduce. It also strengthens the connection of the square and the interior. The windows of dwelling are repeated, indicating the standardized dwelling space.

In the plan design of grand cafe, the circulation is organized around the central bar. The two types of furniture organization in Hopper Coffee and Grand Cafe Restaurant Loos are used in the plan design. The linear layout closeing to the windows provides a private enviroment, while the block layout in the center provides a more public space for groups.
