Ακροστόλιο της Δυτικής Μακεδονίας όπου συνυπάρχουν οι Δήμοι Φλωρίνης, Αμυνταίου και Πρεσπών, η Φλώρινα αποτελεί έναν απύθμενο θησαυρό οικοσυστήματος. Τα βουνά του νομού κρύβουν σπάνια είδη ορνιθοπανίδας και χλωρίδας, ενώ λίγο έξω από το Νυμφαίο βρίσκεται το μοναδικό καταφύγιο

Florina, the gem of Western Macedonia, where the Municipalities of Florina, Amyntaio and Prespes coexist, is an endless ecosystem treasure. Rare birdlife and flora species hide in the mountains of the prefecture, while just outside Nymfaio is located the only shelter for brown bears in Greece. Of course, the visitor cannot miss the chance to visit the dreamlike Prespa National Park.

Η πολλαπλότητα του φυσικού πλούτου σφυρηλάτησε από νωρίς την ιστορική ταυτότητα της περιοχής, ενώ οι διάσπαρτες προϊστορικές θέσεις, όπως ο οικισμός του Αρμενοχωρίου Φλώρινας και o παραλίμνιος οικισμός του Αγίου Παντελεήμονα Αμυνταίου, μαρτυρούν την προνομιούχα γη που εκμεταλλεύτηκαν οι πρώιμοι κάτοικοι. Τα απομονωμέ- να ασκηταριά στη Μεγάλη Πρέσπα, η Μονή Αγίου Μάρκου Πρώτης στη Φλώρινα, όπου βρήκε καταφύγιο ο Παύλος Μελάς, μαρτυρούν ενδεικτικά την ιστορική συνέχεια.

Σε αυτό το μεταιχμιακό σταυροδρόμι Ιστορίας και Τεχνών συμπυκνώνεται και ένα έντονο καλλιτεχνικό δυναμικό που χάνεται στα βάθη του χρόνου. Στα Aρβανιτοχώρια της Φλώρινας έδρασαν οι ξακουστοί μάστορες των Βαλκανίων επί Τουρκοκρατίας, ενώ οι αργυροχρυσοχόοι του Νυμφαίου μεγαλούργησαν μεταξύ του 17ου-19ου αιώνα. Παραδοσιακά αγροτόσπιτα και πέτρινα αρχοντικά επιβραβεύουν την εκλεπτυσμένη αισθητική που διαχέει κάθε τοπίο που θα περιδιαβείτε. Δεν είναι τυχαίο που το Νυμφαίο συγκαταλέγεται στα δέκα ομορφότερα χωριά της Ευρώπης σύμφωνα με την UNESCO, ενώ τα χωριά των Πρεσπών Άγιος Γερμανός και Ψαράδες έχουν χαρακτηριστεί παραδοσιακοί οικισμοί. Στη μυστηριακή πόλη της Φλώρινας, προπύργιο των Καλών Τεχνών, τα μαγευτικά αρχοντικά στις όχθες του Σακουλέβα ποταμού θα σας συνεπάρουν.

Ξακουστοί είναι οι κηροπλάστες της Φλώρινας που δημιουργούν πολύχρωμα πλεκτά κεριά, ενώ οι καλαθοπλέχτες του Βαρικού Αμυνταίου θα σας γυρίσουν πίσω στον χρόνο με τη μαεστρία τους.

Στη Φλώρινα η παράδοση αναβιώνει το χθες. Το αποκριάτικο, διονυσιακό ξεφάντωμα στο Ξινό Νερό Αμυνταίου, η γιορτή αρβανίτικης πίτας στο Λέχοβο, οι εξαγνιστικές φωτιές του Δεκέμβρη σε όλη την επικράτεια του νομού είναι μερικά μόνο από τα έθιμα που θα κεντρίσουν το ενδιαφέρον του επισκέπτη.

The region’s historical identity was shaped early on by the multiplicity of its natural resources, while the scattered prehistoric sites, such as the settlement of Armenochori of Florina and the lakeside settlement of Agios Panteleimon at Amyntaio verify that its first inhabitants exploited a privileged land. The hermitages in the Megali Prespa Lake, the Monastery of Agios Markos at Proti in Florina, where Pavlos Melas sought refuge, indicate the historical continuity of the land.

At this crossroads of history and arts, a dynamic artistic potential takes shape and is lost in the mists of time. In the Arvanite villages (Arvanitohoria) of Florina, the most famous craftsmen of the Balkans operated, during the Turkish occupation, while the silversmiths of Nymfaio flourished between the 17th and 19th centuries.

It is no coincidence that Nymfaio is listed among the ten most beautiful villages in Europe according to UNESCO, while the villages of Lake Prespa Agios Germanos and Psarades have been classified as traditional settlements. Καλά φυλαγμένος από τα παρακείμενα ελατοδάση και δρυοδάση, στεριωμένος σε ένα πλούσιο γεωμορφολογικό ανάγλυφο και ευλογημένος με ένα εκτεταμένο υδρογραφικό δίκτυο, ο Δήμος Φλώρινας συνιστά ένα νευραλγικό και πολυπολιτισμικό σταυροδρόμι.

Ο ταξιδιώτης που θα τον επισκεφτεί θα βρεθεί σε μια μαγική χρονοκάψουλα και θα ταξιδέψει πίσω στην Εποχή του Χαλκού, στον οικισμό του Αρμενοχωρίου. Ύστερα θα τον μεταφέρει στην Ελληνιστική πόλη της Φλώρινας και στη συνέχεια θα περιπλανηθεί σε περιαστικές μονές και ναούς, όπου θα αποκτήσει θρησκευτικό και αρχαιολογικό ενδιαφέρον, μέχρι τελικά να φτάσει στο κατώφλι της σύγχρονης πόλης. Το αστικό τοπίο με την κινηματογραφική του αίγλη ακολουθεί γαλλικό σχέδιο πόλης και αναπτύσσεται κατά μήκος του εμβληματικού ποταμού Σακουλέβα, που διατρέχει την πόλη. Η ύπαρξη εβραϊκής κοινότητας προπολεμικά και η έλευση των προσφύγων σε διαφορετικές περιόδους προσέθεσε κτίρια, δραστηριότητες και πολιτι- στικές επιδράσεις στην ανάπτυξη και τη μορφή της. Σήμερα, ο οικισμός ξεδιπλώνεται σε τρεις άξονες που ξεκινούν από τον τερματικό και αφετηριακό Σιδηροδρομικό Σταθμό. Αυτός ο εικαστικός καμβάς εμπλουτίζεται από κτίρια και μνημεία της Οθωμανοκρατίας, μεγαλόπρεπα μακεδονικά αρχοντικά, αλλά και κομψοτεχνήματα του Μεσοπολέμου που απομένουν σε πείσμα του πανδαμάτορα χρόνου. Well hidden among the nearby fir and oak forests, standing strong on a rich geomorphological landscape and blessed with an extensive hydrographic network, the Municipality of Florina constitutes a neuralgic and multicultural crossroad.

The traveler who visits Florina will find himself in an enchanting time capsule and will travel back to the Bronze Age, to the settlement of Armenochori. He will then be brought to the Hellenistic city of Florina and afterwards, he will wander around the peri-urban monasteries and temples, gaining his religious and archaeological interest, until he finally reaches the threshold of the modern city. It suddenly seems as if time has stopped.

The urban landscape with its cinematic allure follows the French urban plan and it develops along the iconic Sakoulevas river, which runs through the city. The existence of a Jewish community before the war and the arrival of refugees during different periods influenced the city’s character and development as they created buildings and brought new activities and cultural elements. Nowadays, the settlement unfolds along three axes starting from the Railway Station. This visual canvas is enriched by buildings and monuments dating to the Ottoman Empire, majestic mansions of the macedonian architecture, but also elegant architectural examples from the Interwar period that still stand upright against the untamed Time. Every single image in the Municipality of Florina entails a specific symbolism, significance and meaning. Its dynamic automatically touches people’s hearts.

Τέχνης με πάνω από 600 έργα καλλιτεχνών παγκόσμιας εμβέλειας, ενώ φιλοξενεί μία εκ των τεσσάρων σχολών Καλών Τεχνών της Ελλάδας.

Η Φλώρινα, όμως, δεν εγκλωβίζεται στην πρόδηλη αισθητική που την πλημμυρίζει. Αποτελεί ένα ζωντανό κύτταρο που πάλλεται μέσα σε μια μικροκοινωνία γενιών. Από τη μια, θα βρείτε τη ζωηρή ατμόσφαιρα που δημιουργούν οι απανταχού φοιτητές κι από την άλλη, θα συναντήσετε τους γηραιότερους να παίζουν πρέφα και τάβλι δίπλα από την ξυλόσομπα στα παραδοσιακά καφενεία.

Κάπου εκεί, θα αδράξετε την ευκαιρία να αναμιχθείτε αρμονικά μαζί τους, με επίκεντρο ένα αρχέγονο σημείο επικοινωνίας: το τραπέζι.

Μυρωδάτες πιπερόπιτες και τσουκνιδόπιτες, πεντανόστιμα κεμπάπια στα κάρβουνα, «φλωρινέλα» σαγανάκι, ένα τυροκομικό αριστούργημα και φυσικά ing nature inspired the creators who transformed this landscape into a visual field of ideas and impressions.

Woodcarvers, engravers and masons from Epirus settled in the city of Florina in the 19th century – ever since Florina has never ceased to inspire sculptors, painters and engravers with its charming introspective character. Besides, here is the home of the Fine Arts Association of Florina, founded in 1975: the Museum of Contemporary Art operates under its auspices and showcases more than 600 works by globally known artists, while the city also hosts one of the four schools of Fine Arts of Greece.

Florina, however, has not become entrapped in its obvious aesthetics. It is a living cell, pulsating within a micro-society of different generations. On one hand, you will find the lively atmosphere created by students who are everywhere and on the other, you will meet the older generation playing cards and backgammon next to the wood stove in the traditional cafés.

When there, you will seize the opportunity to mingle harmoniously with them while focused on a primordial contact point: food.

Here you will try fragrant pepper pies and nettle pies, delicious grilled kebabs, the “florinella” grilled cheese, a dairy masterpiece, and of course the featured appetizer of the region, the Florina pepper, stuffed ρακλήδες θα απολαύσουν τα εκλεκτά εδέσματα με λίγο τσίπουρο και οι υπόλοιποι θα απολαύσουν την ντόπια πορτοκαλάδα φτιαγμένη με «Ξινό Νερό». Connoisseurs will enjoy the fine dishes with a little tsipouro and the rest will enjoy the local orange juice made with “Sour Water”. For a refined taste, you can try the “strawbar”, a special distillate from regional strawberries made by a team of chemists.

Το ταξίδι όμως δεν τελειώνει, καθώς οι εναλλαγές εμπειριών που προσφέρει ο Δήμος Φλώρινας είναι ατελείωτες. Ίσως σταθείτε τυχεροί και βρεθείτε τα Θεοφάνεια στην περιοχή, ώστε να μαγευτείτε από τους έφιππους «νεοφώτιστους» που συνοδεύουν τον σταυρό. Μπορεί την Πρωτοχρονιά να πετύχετε τους άντρες με τις προβιές στα «Μπαμπάρια», στο χωριό Παπαγιάννης, να προκαλούν ένα οργιαστικό και συμβολικό ξύπνημα της καρποφορίας της γης. Ίσως πετύχετε τη Φιλαρμονική του Δήμου Φλώρινας να παιανίζει ύμνους στους κεντρικούς δρόμους της πόλης.

Η Φλώρινα ικανοποιεί όλο το φάσμα των αναζητήσεων: Οι φιλότεχνοι θα ιχνηλατήσουν τα «μετέωρα βήματα» του Μαρτσέλο Μαστρογιάννη και της Ζαν Μορό στο ιστορικό καφενείο «Διεθνές», οι ρομαντικοί θα κλειδώσουν την αγάπη τους με ένα λουκέτο στη γέφυρα των ερωτευμένων, οι φυσιολάτρες θα δοκιμάσουν εναλλακτικά αθλήματα, γιατί το ταξίδι εδώ δεν είναι απλώς τουρισμός, είναι βίωμα.

However, the journey does not end here, as the Municipality of Florina offers countless diverse experiences. You might get lucky and celebrate the Epiphany and be mesmerized by the so-called “Newly Baptized” who accompany the cross on horseback. On New Year’s Day, you may see men wearing sheepskin during the “Babaria” celebration, in the village of Papagiannis, bringing on an orgiastic and symbolic awakening of the fruitful earth. You may even see the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Florina playing melodies in the central streets.

Florina satisfies a whole range of pursuits: Art lovers will trace the “Suspended Steps” of Marcello Mastroianni and Jeanne Moreau in the historic “Diethnes” cafe, romantic souls will lock their love in a padlock on the lovers’ bridge, nature lovers will try alternative sports.
