Balloon Fun Fly PRESENTED BY
SUMMER BREEZE
WHIRLYGIG LOFTY IDEA Hot Air Balloons have been floating over Clovis for decades. In 1998, the Clovis Chamber of Commerce added a Hot Air Balloon Fun Fly to its annual ClovisFest celebration. ClovisFest Balloon Meister, “Magic” Bob Locklin has been helping the Clovis Chamber host the Fun Fly since its inception over 20 years ago. Magic Bob is the organizer of the Fun Fly and an accomplished balloon pilot. Bob invites balloon pilots from all
over the western US to Clovis each year. Bob ensures that everything runs smoothly and works with the FAA, City of Clovis, County of Fresno and other organizations to make sure we have a well-organized and safe event. Bob said that balloon pilots like coming to ClovisFest because it’s a well-organized and fun event where they can visit with other pilots and friends in the area. The pilots gather each year at their host hotel and have a wonderful recep-
tion where they talk about that days flights and catch up with each other. The pilots go the extra mile for the residents of Clovis. They come out early each day of the event and give the crowd a thrill by blowing fire into the early morning sky. Watching a Hot Air Balloon inflate, and the orchestrated movements of the balloon crew is a marvel to behold. Each day of the event the balloons will majestically launch from the Rodeo Grounds and float over Clovis. Children are amazed at the size of the balloons and are excited as they lift off. This year ClovisFest will be offering balloon tether rides on both Saturday and Sunday mornings from the rodeo grounds. Come out early on Saturday and Sun-
days to see the balloons take off. It’s a magical family experience. This year we are hoping to have 12 balloons at ClovisFest. Come out early and enjoy the show. The ClovisFest Hot Air Balloon Fun Fly is presented by Noble Credit Union. We are also excited to announce our new partnership with Ferrallgas who will be suppling propane for the balloons. For more information visit www.clovischamber.com. • “Gooberfish” is piloted by Ken Azevedo. • “Whirlygig” is piloted by Chuck Weiscopf & Eileen Jones • “Lofty Idea” is pioted by Maria Chieruzzi • “Summer Breeze” is piloted by Alta Fernandez

Who are the Basque? The Basque people come from the Basque Country, or Euskal Herria, which is located along the Pyrenees Mountains in southern France and northern Spain. It consists of 7 provinces: 4 on the Spanish side, or Hegoalde, (Araba, Biskaia, Nafarroa, and Gipuzkoa) and 3 on the French side, or Iparralde, (Zuberoa, Lapurdi, and Nafarroa Beherea). While each province has its own rich customs and traditions, their common language, Euskara, so unique and unrelated to any other language, unites them. The Basques have been a part of American history for centuries. They

HĀLAU HULA I KA LĀ - HULA SCHOOL IN THE SUN
It could be said that Hawaiʻi can be described by two words: HULA and ALOHA. Both of which form the foundation of Clovis based hula school, Hālau Hula I Ka Lā. The name of the school translates to, “Hula School in the Sun” (Hālau=school, Hula=the Hawaiian dance, I=in, Ka=the, Lā=sun) and began in June, 2014.
Hula classes are more than just learning a step here and a hand motion there. All classes begin with a review of ‘ōlelo Hawaiʻi - the Hawaiian language - including numbers, body parts, and directional commands. Students in certain classes are required to study and recite oli (chants) and mele (songs) in conjunction with learning the hula. After all, it is
the history and mythology that allow hula to be what it is - a visual portrayal of the foundation and beliefs of the Hawaiian people. At Hālau Hula I Ka Lā, the words of Hawai’i’s last reigning King, David Kalākaua, are taught, “Hula is the language of the heart and therefore the heartbeat of the Hawaiian people.”
Hālau Hula I Ka Lā understands that hula calls to individuals at different times so new students are welcome year round. All classes are held at 1305 N Willow Ave., Suite #170, Clovis, 93619. A description of classes can be found at www.hulaikala.weebly.com. Inquiries about classes and performances may also sent via Facebook, email:

A Celebration of Creativity At ClovisFest Made In Clovis was developed as a way to showcase the amazing work of local creators who embody the do-it-yourself spirit and want to share their talents with an appreciative audience. Made in Clovis is part invention, part innovation, and all creativity. It’s a celebration for tech wizards, crafters, tinkerers, food artisans, hobbyists, engineers, science buffs, artists, students, and commercial organizations. This event is for those who have succeeded in building a bet ter mousetrap, or perhaps created something to solve a problem that we didn’t know existed, and everything in between. Made In Clovis participants are featured in a special section of ClovisFest (on Pollasky between 7th & 8th Streets) in Old Town Clovis on September 25 & 26, 2021. The creator/booth operator will be at their booth/display both Saturday, September 25 and Sunday September 26 from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. During the event, selected participants will be visited by local business leaders, mentors, city officials, and entrepreneurs who will appraise each participant and select several to re-
ceive follow-up mentoring, training and resources to further expand their business/ invention or idea. Clovis Chamber CEO says that “Our goal is to find the best, most creative par ticipants with the best ideas and help them reach greater success. Think of Made In Clovis as a type of “Shark Tank” without the sharks and without the tank” Participants will be in the following categories: • Technology Ideas or gadgets that simplify the lives of everyone who uses it? Technology doesn’t necessarily mean electronic. Remember, a pencil with a built-in eraser was once considered “technology.” • Food Ideas or creations for a new food product that will change the way we eat? Maybe it’s a process that makes preparing a particular dish better and faster than anyone ever imagined. Or maybe it’s an idea for a type of cookie that nobody has ever tasted. Whatever they have, it may be out there on the streets of Old Town Clovis. • Crafts We’re not talking about a wood-
