Every Square Inch: Your Work Matters

“There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: ‘Mine!’” ~ Abraham Kuyper

In the words of the great Dutch statesman Abraham Kuyper, “There

is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: ‘Mine!’” Our theme for this year’s conference embraces that beautiful truth. Every square inch of our human existence—even the practice of law —belongs to God. Regardless of the type of practice you have, the name of your law school, or the sophistication of your clients, your work matters!

Every Square Inch: Your Work Matters GENERAL INVITATION & OVERVIEW

Federal Removal of Abnormal Cases Forrest Latta, Partner, Burr & Forman, LLP

Website Basics: How to Be in Google’s Top 10 Terry O’Malley, Owner, O’Malley Law Office, P.C.

Federal removal jurisdiction was born of conflict during reconstruction. The removal procedure was authorized by Congress in the interest of promoting “a more perfect union”. Congress gave parties the right to petition a federal judge to take jurisdiction over state court disputes among parties of different states or where federal questions existed. Inconsistent results, however, have always been a hallmark of the law, which provides for no appeal. As a result, recent changes by Congress effective in 2012 have addressed some of the recurring issues, such as fraudulent joinder or sandbagging on damages. The same practical questions remain, however: whether to remove; what are the options; and why it matters. This workshop will tackle these difficult issues, in light of recent changes, and discuss their implications for civil litigators, both plaintiffs and defendants.

If you are not on the first page of Google’s search results for your law firm, you are wasting your money and missing a great opportunity to grow your business. There are free websites where you can create your own site and then host it for $10 per month. Tens of thousands of dollars in business await you if you will follow the basic principles which I have used in the competitive Denver market to show up in Google’s top ten.

This workshop will review the current trends and results of denominations and associations and their member churches using the secular dispute resolution services and court system to address the serious and complex disputes related to a church withdrawing for theological or other reasons. The theme will be reinforced by scripture readings, other testimonies and worship music by Keynote, our weekend worship band. Christian Legal Society Annual Banquet with Wes Lane, Esq. Saturday, October 20 | 7:00-10:00pm Our annual Closing Banquet will feature Wes Lane, former district attorney of Oklahoma County and prosecutor of Oklahoma City bomber, Terry Nichols. Wes will share how his walk with the Lord has impacted his life and career as he has given every square inch of himself for God’s glory. During the event, attendees will be afforded an opportunity to contribute to the ministries of CLS. It will be an unforgettable evening you do not want to miss! Worship Music October 18-21, 2012 Music is provided by Keynote, the creative arts ministry of Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ), with Seth Irby as worship leader. Based in Westfield, Indiana, Keynote brings the message of Christ across the globe through innovative resources, screen-based ministry, performing arts and film and communication training. By offering resources and forming strategic partnerships, Keynote makes it possible for ministry teams to connect with their target audience through new and innovative techniques. No matter what part of the world or who’s in the audience, Keynote focuses on sharing the gospel in a relational way.

CHILDCARE & KIDS’ CONFERENCE

CLS is pleased to offer Kids’ Conference again this year! The Kids’ Conference is designed to minister to your entire family by allowing you and your spouse the opportunity to fully engage in the main conference while providing your children with spiritually meaningful, enjoyable, and memorable activities, including crafts, Bible lessons, and games.

Sue Mitchell

The Kids’ Conference will be created and operated by a wonderful team of committed Christian professionals from Woodmen Valley Chapel’s KidzKare – a ministry that serves approximately 400 children at two separate locations and employs 35 screened and trained teachers. Our Kids’ Conference program director, Sue Mitchell, has been the Coordinator for KidzKare and a staff member at Woodmen Valley Chapel since 1996; she has been a volunteer in Children’s Ministries since 1984. Midstream between raising her family, and as a result of her passion to encourage children and families, she completed an Early Childhood Director Certification through Pikes Peak Community College in 2006. She and her team look forward to encouraging you and your children in October! Age-appropriate care is available for children ages 0-12. Rest assured that Kids’ Conference operates under Colorado state guidelines for age-divided space and child/ worker ratios. Because of CLS and KidzKare’s firm commitment to quality, Christcentered care, and for parents’ peace of mind, all workers are background checked and vetted through KidzKare’s standard procedures. We regret we cannot offer childcare for children with special needs requiring individual or special attention as our workers are not certified for such care.

“What does an unused prayer link look like? Anxiety.” “The connection between anxiety and continuous praying goes back to Eden, where Adam and Even were in unbroken fellowship with God and continuous prayer was normal. When they sought independence from God, they stopped walking with God in the cool of the day and their prayer link was broken. “What does an unused prayer link look like? Anxiety. Instead of connecting with God, our spirits fly around like severed power lines, destroying everything they touch. Anxiety wants to be God but lacks God’s wisdom, power, or knowledge. A godlike stance without godlike character and ability is pure tension. Because anxiety is self on its own, it tries to get control. It is unable to relax in the face of chaos. Once one problem is solved, the next in line steps up. The new one looms so large, we forget the last deliverance.” Paul E. Miller, A Praying Life: Connecting with God in a Distracting World

Located onsite at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort, Kids’ Conference is available during each session of the main conference. Reservations are available for the full conference (best rate!) or you can select full-day participation or just evening sessions on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Friday and Saturday’s lunch will be provided; for all other meals, parents are asked to pick up their children for the meal as Kids’ Conference will be closed. For your convenience, children may be dropped off and picked up 15 minutes before and after each session. To adequately prepare for Kids’ Conference, pre-registration is required. Childcare may be canceled if there are too few registrants.

SPIRITUAL FORMATION: A FOCUS ON PRAYER

Prayer is the lifeblood of the Church. It is essential for living a life of faith and for communing with God. Yet, despite its importance, many of us often struggle with knowing how to pray, taking time to pray, and waiting on God to answer our prayers. We get busy. We get distracted. We get discouraged. And all to our own detriment. In order to edify its members, CLS has decided to emphasize the spiritual discipline of prayer throughout the Conference. From the time you register, someone in Colorado will begin praying over you, your family, and your practice. If you have specific prayers for which you desire intercession, please include them with your registration. Once at the Resort, you will be challenged by messages from Paul E. Miller and other speakers on the topic of prayer. Coupled with this teaching will be an opportunity to engage our prayer partners or to spend time in personal prayer and reflection in the Prayer Room. The power of prayer is undeniable. We hope you will join us as we learn to wield this power more fully in order to see the glory of God revealed in every aspect of our lives.

Every Square Inch: Your Work Matters In the words of the great Dutch statesman Abraham Kuyper, “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: ‘Mine!’” Our theme for this year’s conference embraces that beautiful truth. Every square inch of our human existence—even the practice of law —belongs to God. Regardless of the type of practice you have, the name of your law school, or the sophistication of your clients, your work matters!
