Zhang presents at Geo-Congress

Dr. Xiong Zhang, James A. Heidman Professor, attended the American Society of Civil Engineers Geo-Congress 2023 held March 26-29 in Los Angeles.

Zhang, along with Dr. Laureano Hoyos, professor of civil engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington, and Dr. Sanchez Marcelo, professor of civil and environmental engineering at Texas A&M University, taught a short course titled “Simple methods to rapidly characterize and model unsaturated soil behavior.”

IACIP is a U.S.-registered non-profit professional organization with members who work or study in the fields of civil infrastructure and systems (CIS) and related areas who are interested in CIS development and related issues. Zhang chaired a technical session on “Soil Properties” with Dr. Cassandra Rutherford, assistant professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering at Iowa State University. He also gave two poster presentations, titled “Efficient and Accurate Coded Target Decoding for 3D Reconstruction of Soil Specimen in Triaxial Test” and “Measurement of Volumetric Deformation, Strain Localization, and Shear Band Characterization During Triaxial Testing
