ULTIMATE PROTECTION FROM THE COLD AND WIND — Layering for late-season cold weather hunts requires proper planning. Depending on the location of the hunt, temperature fluctuations, and weather conditions, an individual’s protection needs can change significantly. With so many variables to consider, garments need to be versatile with the ability to protect in a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions.

The following layering options combine KUIU’s most advanced technologies designed for frigid temperatures and nasty weather. These options withstand the longest hunts, stand up to the most extreme conditions, and are relied on by the most demanding guides and hunters.

OUTER LAYERS: Worn over the base and midlayers, the outermost layer protects you from the elements except in significant rain. In wet conditions, a rain shell may be required. (Page 20)

RAIN GEAR: Provides waterproof-breathable and windproof protection keeping you dry and comfortable when conditions turn nasty and additional protection is needed. (Page 24)

ACCESSORIES: We offer a variety of warm, lightweight, and comfortable beanies, gloves, and other accessories ideal for rounding out your kit for late-season, cold-weather hunts. (Page 26)

I cannot believe how light this jacket is and how well it fits layered over an ULTRA vest and jacket. Together with a base layer, light wool shirt, and shell, I believe that I will be able to take this combo through any extreme of temp, wind and rain.”

BASE LAYERS: The foundation of the layering system—next to skin garments that are lightweight, highly breathable, moisture-wicking, odor-resistant, and provide comfort. (Page 14)

MID LAYERS: Adds extra warmth and protection from the elements. Typically a thicker, more durable garment that can be worn as an outer layer in warmer temperatures. (Page 16)

INSULATION LAYERS: Purely for warmth, typically worn between the base and outer layer. These are lightweight high performance garments often carried in the pack for use when needed. (Page 18)
