Good morning CMDS! I tell Mommy goodbye and walk to my classroom all by myself. I put my folder and snack into the bin and then hang up my bag. Circle Time. I Get To Draw Mat Ma n Today. My teacher says my Mat Man looks bette r every time I draw him . she means, but I sure I’m not sure what do love playing with his wood piece s and singing songs! Time To Go Outside! My favorite thing about recess is riding the fast bikes. We like to play fire truck and ambulance. Chomp – It’s Snack Time! My tummy is hungry from all that playtime. My mom packed me apple slices today, hooray! My teacher helps me remember to chew with my mouth closed and sit still in my chair.

Next Up Is Read Aloud and Domain. Our domain is Early Asian Civilizations. My teacher reads about the Silk Road and tells us that silk was China’s most important export. Then we talk about the steps to make silk. I can’t wait to tell my mom her silk scarf came from a bug larva! Encore Time! The first Encore class on today’s schedule is Computer. We are using Wixie to make “All About Me” slideshows. Ms. Moon says each slide has to be a different sentence type: statement, question, exclamation and command. Engineering Lab Is Our Next Stop! In E Lab, Mrs. Cheairs sets up three different stations with Legos, Lincoln Logs and wooden blocks. We work in teams to build the Great Wall of China at each station. Lincoln Logs make the sturdiest walls! Back Outside for Second Recess. There are some nets on the playground today, so we play Silk Road with them. My teacher says we are very clever! Domain Extension Is Our Last Lesson. Today we practice drawing our Chinese letters. Then we write in our journal. It’s fun thinking about ways I would try to catch that Cat Bandit if he lived in my house. Pack Up and Clean Up! After school, I head upstairs for my piano lesson. I’m learning how to play “Rocky Top.” My dad is really happy about it.

School Time! We always start our day with a devotion. Today we talk about Ephesians 4:32, which says “Be kind and compassionate to one another.” My teacher is encouraging us to choose kindness every day. Off to Encore! Encore comes early in 5th Grade. First up is Bible. We are presenting in Chapel this week, so we rehearse our skits. We are going to have a Noah’s Ark trivia game. We make up funny rhymes, so it’s easier for the little kids to remember the answers. “We got out of the mud, and God saved us from the … flood!” Moving On to Music. Now it’s time for Music. We are learning about beats and how to read music. We work on music notes and then get to play the bongos to the beat! Break Time! Now I have a few minutes to talk to my friends and eat a snack before our academic blocks. Literature and Science Come First Today. We are reading Ghost Soldier in Literature. It’s historical fiction. I like reading about the Civil War. Then we switch classes! In science, we are learning about viscosity. We do a cool experiment that tests liquids to see how fast they slide down a piece of paper. Water goes the fastest, and corn syrup is really slow! Time to Go Outside for Recess. I play “tips” at recess today. That’s when you pass a ball back and forth to your friends without letting it touch the ground. Lunch Time! We head over to the CMDS Cafe for lunch. It’s pizza day today! My parents let me buy my lunch on pizza day. I always choose Jell-O for dessert. Math and Language Arts Are Next. We are working on fractions in math. Another classroom switch! I’ll have this switching classes thing down when I head off to 7th Grade. In Language Arts, we are learning how to write a paragraph. Today we write a paragraph describing a character from Ghost Soldier. Time for Study Hall! We have time to organize our planners and get a jumpstart on homework. Pack Up and Head to Practice! Today is our team’s last practice before the big Cross Country meet at Shelby Farms. I am aiming for another personal best!
