LIGHT SPECTRUM Course work last 16 weeks Accomplished timeďźšSep. 2018- Dec. 2018 InstructorďźšCho, Leena Sangyun Individual work My project focus on the forest succession occurrence by clearing some trees out, by introducing more dense amount of trees in other parts to meet the clearance and accelerate or modulating the rate of succession. As the part of ecological management of the forest, I focus on the successions in gaps, introducing human scale experience and different types of light. In the process, I make a landform which can modulate the succession in forest. I utilize the landform and plant strategy to make contrast light intensity and different light pattern like linear light spot, zigzag light spot, filtered light, murky light, etc. I want to create a place which can not only enhance the diversity in forest, but also can provide people different experience of light.

OAKLAND BREATH Course work last 16 weeks Accomplished time: Jan. 2019- May. 2019 Instructor: Mendel, Emma Individual work In my project, I focus on the inequity of public health. People who have different income live in different environment and have different healthy conditions. In Oakland, asthma is the most common illness because the large port and traffic which nearby residential areas. Also, the distribution of health care facilities is inequity. The places where hispanic, black and asian people live have fewer health facilities. Therefore, I use urban agriculture to cultivate holistic food which can help people relieve asthma through controlling air pollution sources and making psychological treatment such as eating or smelling. People can alleviate illness through natural way rather than going to hospitals. What's more, people who have lower income and live far away from hospitals can also have opportunities to protect health.

The site is located in Dashilaner, one of the oldest business districts in Beijing, generally referring to the area covering from Lashilaner Street, Langfangtoutiao to Meishi Street. As one of the most famous ancient business district, Dashilaner is an important part in southern axis of Beijing. However, recent years, due to highly-dense housings, narrowly-built streets and only buses accessible to there, fewer people go there. The business center of Dashilaner was declining. At present, people live in narrow lanes equipped with few entertainment facilities, leaving little space for playing. With city advancement, there would establish a public culture and entertainment center combing with features of railway station.

Historically, Dashilaner was one of Beijing’s most commercially prosperous, vibrant and cultural quarters, which attracted many great cultural figures from all over the nation. Based on historically culture heritage, I define the main function of proposed center as music hall, providing people with colorful life.

By itself, the design of Music Hall does not match with the surrounding architectures and residents here lack of urban public green space and room. So, I plan to build the music hall under the ground and a open and public green land is developed on the ground.

Combined with the texture of existing alley, winding paths are cross the green land. On both sides of paths are functional zones, which seemingly extends the length of alleys. The glass-facet paths strongly contrast with grey-black traditional face of wall.

In 594 A.D, Changqing County was established, Taishan Mountain in the east and Yellow River in the west, dating back over 1.400 years ago.

In September 2005, Changqing University had developed into a new zone incorporating with scientific research, information t e c h n o l o g y, l e a r n i n g a n d production.

Retained natural shoreline and boat docks.

10.2013 Enable Wetlands

In October 2013, Qixi We t l a n d P a r k o p e n e d to the public, which was expected to develop into a comprehensive ecological park.

Brought water into the entire site by reservoir .

Expanded current road bridging the Haitang Road and Ziwei Road at the both sides of Changqing Lake.

Current situation

Formed varied landscape along the shoreline by using of elevation difference.

The site is located in Changqing Lake, Jinan City, in which universities and tourism attractions are closed respectively, hardly integrating with existing landscape. There left mountains deserted with low green covering. So I plan to make transformation to make connections among the scatted areas and improve space utilization rate; changing the previous state of closure and little connections in space; then building landscape and cultural sites. The purpose is to change its previous depressed state and achieve sustainable development.

secondary road main road branch The main road links the north and the south. The secondary road links the north and the south as well as the east and the west. The distance is too far and divided roads are too few resulting that the accessibility of site is poor.

site university Universities are scattered in university town. The distance among universities is too far, which is unbeneficial for information sharing and limits the connections between university town and main district.

site residential area Lots of new-built residential areas are built around the site, scarcely accessible to city infrastructure and public equipments.

Site Analysis

Poster of Tourism

Tourism presents the greatest current threat with poorly regulated off road driving by tour operators, construction of illegal campsites, and self-guided tourists causing vegetation damage and also threatening the integrity of the site. The red sand, one of the unique features of this place, is being destroyed by the wheel tracks. Also, the illegal hunting in Wadi Rum have bad effects on biodiversity: the Arabian oryx was hunted to extinction 80 years ago.

In this project, we made a new tourism proposal in Wadi Rum, which focus on alleviating those threats. We create a wristband and use VR Technology simulate how people can use that wristband as a field guide to travel in Wadi Rum.
