The Thank You In the winter of 2010 UNI Dance Marathon was only an idea, a vision that had formed in the mind of a few people. Within one year UNI Dance Marathon accomplished a level of success only seen by one other school in the country. That success was not easily achieved but was made possible by every single person involved in UNI Dance Marathon. On behalf of all the members of the 2011-2012 UNI Dance Marathon Executive Board we would like to thank YOU. Thank you to the students; you took a chance on our event and without your attendance and fundraising we would not have been successful. Thank you to the sponsors; you funded and promoted UNI Dance Marathon and we are so thankful of your support. Thank you to the families; you gave us hope and strength throughout this year, and also great advice! Thank you to the committee members; you worked your butts off every day and you have no idea how much you helped each and every executive.

Thank you to Spencer and Ian; our AWESOME MC’s for the BIG EVENT! Thank you to our Mini Dance Marathons; you danced for the chance just as hard as we did! Thank you to President Allen and Dr. Hogan; you have supported us 100%, all we can say is THANK YOU! Thank you to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital; your guidance this past year has been incredible and you have helped us to solidify that this is for the kids! Thank you to the Children’s Miracle Network; without you UNI Dance Marathon wouldn’t even exist! Thank you to our parents; you dealt with all our ups and downs this past year. And most of all... Thank you to every child who has been treated in a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, you are our inspiration, our motivation, and our driving spirit, and we DANCE to give you a CHANCE!

The Beginning “Back in 2009-2010, my family spent an extended period of time at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital with my son, and experienced firsthand the amazing work of Dance Marathon. In summer of 2010 we initiated communication with the hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network about starting a Dance Marathon student organization at UNI . Spearheaded by fourteen amazingly motivated and inspired students, this organization took off in fall of 2010, and I assumed the role of the faculty advisor. For us, it was a tribute to our son Delmar who passed away at the UICH from complications of cancer treatment, at 7 months of age.” - Oksana Grybovych Faculty Advisor and Founder

“In late fall of 2010 I was assigned the task of starting UNI Dance Marathon, building it a solid foundation and setting it up to move forward and be successful. In the beginning stages of this organization I don’t think any of us could have imagined what this would turn into or what it could be. Having seen the success of this year it is hard to even begin to imagine what the potential of this organization is moving forward. However one thing is for certain, that without the volunteers, the families, the students, and the University support the organization would never be what it is.” - Dakotah Reed Student Founder

“What I enjoyed most about Dance Marathon was hearing the families talk about their struggles and blessings at The University of Iowa Children’s hospital. That was what all of the hard work from all of the committees was for, the children and their families.” The “big reveal” of the grand total of money that was raised was amazing. Overall, it is an experience I will never forget.” - Brooke Woody “My favorite part of Dance Marathon was hearing each family’s story and how The Children’s Miracle Network has impacted their life. It put things into perspective, as to how the money really does help a number of children and their families through struggling times. That is why I dance.” - Tanner Ogden

“My favorite part of dance marathon was listening to the amazing stories of heartache and joy from each family. Their stories were both inspiring and hopeful. Overall it was an amazing experience I hope to experience again.” - Amanda Shultz “My favorite part of UNI Dance Marathon was when we were up on stage and looking out at all the dancers doing the Morale Dance with us. It was just amazing to see all of the dancers and know that they were there to help the kids! Aw! I just can’t explain the feeling I got. And then when we all would stay and listen to the families share their stories. It kept us going hour by hour!” - Brooke Argotsinger

THe marketing & Br “Developing a recognizable brand for UNI Dance Marathon as much support as possible FOR THE KIDS!” - Corey Moen In August of 2011 Far Reach Technologies decided to become the FIRST sponsor of UNI Dance Marathon and donated the building of a fully functioning website, with the design by our Director of Graphic Design, Corey Moen. After months of hard work, the website went live on October 28th, 2011. In the first day there were 11 visits, only two days later the

“I hope we start a strong, long

“It has been my privilege to have the opportunity to work not only with the families and kiddos at the University of Iowa’s Children’s Hospital. I hope to see a bright future for UNI Dance Marathon that continues to encourage families, support the community, and challenge college students to be the best they can be. UNI Dance Marathon will forever hold a special place in my heart and hope it will continue to touch the lives of others as years go by.” - Brenna Bush

“I think UNI Dance Marathon is the perfect student organization for a college campus. I honestly can say it has changed my life, and I’m excited for other UNI students to have the same opportunity. In the future, I would like the program to grow and flourish by becoming a tradition at UNI and a big impact on all members and miracle families. Together we all can make a difference FOR THE KIDS!” - Emily Hanson

lasting tradition here at UNI.” - Brenna Bush “Looking back, I am thankful to all of the students who invested themselves in the UNI Dance Marathon, and believe we are creating a very special tradition. We all have learned a lot, and have seen that anything can be achieved with passion and determination. Every dollar that has been fundraised will make those days, weeks or months in the hospital a little more comfortable both for the kids and their families.” - Oksana Grybovych

“As UNI DM moves from its inaugural year, it is my sincere belief that this organization will continue to exceed expectations and instill a desire in students to give back and better themselves. It is my great honor to serve and help lead this organization into the future as it grows and matures. There is no doubt that UNI DM will continue to do great things, FTK!” - Alyssa Nolte
