Damian Darlington I just managed to be a child of the 60's and I was born in Middlesbrough, Teesside, in the North East of England. I got my first guitar for Christmas when I was 11 years old, a steel string acoustic. I had a few lessons at school, but didn’t really start playing seriously until I was 13. From the age of 15 I was performing round pubs and clubs with various bands playing all sorts of music. I joined The Australian Pink Floyd Show at the beginning of 1994 and over a period of almost 17 years, recently as the musical director, I went on to play in every show, close to 1,300

shows all over the world. I also became increasingly interested in the visual aspects of staging a rock concert and worked closely with Bryan Kolupski and helped him produce and direct all the video content for the TAPFS and, now, Brit Floyd shows. Working with my brother Gareth Darlington I also directed and recorded all the soundscape programming. I acted as director for both the TAPFS DVD releases and in 2007 I had the privilege of directing John Martyn’s Live at the Round House DVD. One of John’s last live performances before his untimely death. In between the

busy touring schedule I’ve also developed an ensemble called Acoustic Unlimited www.myspace.com/acousticunlimited which features my brother Gareth Darlington, my sister Johanna Darlington, Rob Stringer and Steve Gaffney my musical mentor. We play an eclectic mix of jazz, Celtic, classical and rock music including some of my own tunes. I’m hoping to go out on the road with that at some point; after all, man cannot live by Pink Floyd alone! I have lots and lots of influences – too many to mention here unfortunately but I think my top 6 albums have a lot to do with the musician that I am today. Mike Oldfield –

Ommadawn. Al Di Meola, Paco Delucia & John McLaughlin Friday Night in San Francisco. Pink Floyd – The Wall. First Floyd album I ever heard when I was 14. Thought it was amazing then and still do. Rush - Exit Stage Left. Pat Metheny Group – Travels and Tears for Fears – The Seeds of Love. For all the gear anoraks, instruments wise I use a Fender Strat Plus Deluxe, an Ovation Custom Legend acoustic, a Variax Acoustic 700, a Variax Acoustic 300 Nylon and 2 Fouke Industrial Guitar lap steels, 1 tuned to Em and the other tuned to G. For effects and amplification I use a Roland VG-8, a Roland VG-88, a Boss GT

Pro, an Alesis DEQ-230 graphic, a BBE Acoustimax preamp for the acoustic instruments, a Rocktron Banshee talkbox and a pair of Roland VGA-7 amps. For vocals I use an AKG D7 microphone and Ultimate Ears UE11 in ear monitors. My scary moment… I had the amazing experience of performing Comfortably Numb alongside Rick Wright at David Gilmour's 50th birthday party!

Ian Cattell July, 1969 in upstate NY. I started the violin and piano at 4, the trumpet at 11, the bass at 18, and began singing outside the shower at 25. As a trumpet player in high school and later at the Fredonia School of Music I played more jazz and classical gigs than I can count. I began gigging around Syracuse NY on bass in the early 90's with various classic rock and original bands. In 1994 I was approached to join a new Genesis tribute and began an 8 year stint with Seconds Out - The Sights and Sounds of Genesis, performing in New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In late 1994 I joined Crazy Diamond. In 2002

I co-founded Childhood's End - a Tribute to Pink Floyd with Steve Schad, Eric Garboushian, and Gregory John. In 2005, I then took the opportunity to tour the world when I was contacted by Damian and Chas from The Australian Pink Floyd Show. After over 500 shows in over 5 years with TAPFS, I'm excited to be working with Damian, Carl, Bobby, Rob, Arran, Emily, Rick, Jacquie, Ola, Gareth and Bryan to bring the new Brit Floyd show to PF fans around the world. An interesting fact! As a member of the chorus, I performed Beethoven's 9th symphony in Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Bobby Harrison Harlow, Essex, England. Nineteen-seventy-several. Started to play guitar the age of 13. I spent a number of years playing original material in many bands. Several of these projects secured recording contracts. In recent years, I have toured the USA and Canada extensively with The Australian Pink Floyd Show and have played guitar for the hit Queen show We Will Rock You in London’s West End, as well as in Zurich, Stuttgart and Vienna - where I also performed with Brian May. In 2009, I toured Europe with Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show. Studio work includes sessions for the late composer Michael Kamen on the song Jubilation: a

piece written for Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee and recorded at Abbey Road studios, featuring Westlife, The Lighthouse Family and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. I love Led Zeppelin II. The outro section on "What Is and What Should Never Be" is one of the greatest moments in recorded rock music, in my opinion. Even the hairs on the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I hear it. The core of my rig is a Cornford MK50 mkII head, an RJM RG-16 Switcher and Keeley Electronics Effects Pedals. Guitar-wise, I use Ernie Ball Musicman, Gibson and Fender electric guitars (depending on the nature of the gig) and various acoustic guitars.

Arran Ahmun Born Cardiff Docks, 1956. I started playing drums at the age of 16. I turned pro at 19 while working the American bases in Germany. After working with Andy Fairweather Low, I moved to London and spent two years playing in West End shows. Following this I joined the Dave Knopfler Band recording and touring Europe then spent some time recording with Squeeze. I also performed regularly on the Jools Holland 'Happening' series. In ‘87 I recorded with Clannad and did two world tours with the band. Around this time I joined Julia Fordham. During the late 80's I toured with Andy Summers

in the USA followed by a spell touring with Gerry Rafferty. In ‘86 I began a long association with John Martyn, joining his band for the 'Piece by Piece' tour. Throughout the 90's I continued extensive touring and recording with artists such as Alison Moyet, Linda Lewis, The Proclaimers (including two No. 1 hits), Robbie Robertson and the Jools Holland Big Band. Influenced by Early Genesis, late Led Zeppelin, Billy Cobham band, Alan Holdsworth Band, King Crimson, Larry Graham (Graham central station). Yamaha 9000 recording kit.

Rob Stringer Worcester, November 1978. 6 years old on a honky-tonk piano in in my parents utility room, I can remember the smell of washing powder. Played the theme from the Incredible Hulk about 1000 times on it and boogie-woogie as fast as possible with the least musicality possible. Played keyboards on 2 previous Aussie Floyd US/Canadian tours. I have also worked as a jazz pianist on the North West UK scene, playing in various groups and now have my own group, The Bobby Swing Trio in which I sing (or croon...) and play piano. Was a chorister as a boy - was lucky to tour Europe, US/Canada and South Africa between

9-13. Wasn't that angelic though... Miles Davis 'Kind Of Blue' - absolute perfection. Wonderful tunes, beautiful sound, such great players, there's enough in it to last a lifetime...I Nord Stage 88, Yamaha ANiX (for all the minimoog stuff!), Alesis QSR, Leslie 145 speaker. I once performed piano in front of an audience where in the front row, sitting next to each other were Sir Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono, Sir George Martin, Olivia Harrison and Sir Peter Blake. I didn't know they were there and when I saw them all I nearly fell off the keyboard stool and my hands were shaking. Took a week to recover...

Rick Benbow Gloucester 1959. I started piano at the age of 4 and never stopped lessons until I left college. I bought my first electronic organ at age 14 and built my first synthesiser at age 15. After my baptism into the church of rock hearing Moving Waves by Focus, I did the usual apprenticeship playing village halls trying to recreate something close to Topographic Ocean. I was in a few bands in Cambridge as New Wave broke, then toured for a short while with a folk rock group. I signed a record deal to Rough Trade with Simon Warner and made one album which had 100% rave reviews. This led to a lot of work with other artists - Jewel, Sneaker Pimps, The Mighty Wah!, Ishtar, Francis Maggiulli, Save Ferris, Emmer

Swimming, Scarlet, Default, Bender. Since 1998 I have toured live with Think Floyd, The Spirit of Pink Floyd and most recently The Australian Pink Floyd as well as other tribute shows dedicated to Beatles and Prog Rock. Anyone who stretches the boundaries is good with me: The Cardiacs, King Crimson,Yes, Early Genesis, Focus, Gentle Giant, Gong, Supergrass, Pink Floyd, Mars Volta, Frank Zappa, Mike Oldfield, ELP, Van der Graaf Generator, Webern, Messiaen ... I take a controller keyboard and plug it into my laptop with Mainstage installed which provides all the Hammonds, Leslie Cabinets, Wurlitzers, Mellotrons, Rhodes, Mini-Moogs, Pro-soloists, Polysynths and string machines I could ever want.

Carl Brunsdon Cambridge UK, 1973. I started playing sax age 11 and bass at 23. I've recently been playing sax, bass, percussion, guitar and keyboards with The Australian Pink Floyd Show. I dig everything that is funky and run a number of my own funk/groove bands via my website: www.regroovemusic.co.uk. I'm passionate about music education and am regularly employed as an associate lecturer for the PGCE Secondary Music Course at Manchester Metropolitan University. I am also currently employed by Roland to write online teaching support materials. Influences are too many to mention but there's a

fairly hefty chunk of Maceo Parker with some smatterings of Kenny Garrett. It's all finished off with a light dusting of New Orleans Second Line. Bass: Bootsy! Spirit Of Eden by Talk Talk. For me, the album is timeless and it's intensity is compelling. The sounds used are incredible - they all work together expressively to create an amazing soundscape. There is also an enchanting edginess throughout that is particularly highlighted in the key tracks: I Believe in You and Desire. I am completely and unashamedly addicted to Adidas Gazelles.

Ola Bienkowska I was born in Warsaw, Poland. I started taking piano lessons at six, but always preferred to sing. After high school I trained at the Frederic Chopin Music School in Warsaw. Afterwards I’ve studied at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. My latest solo credits include two large scale orchestral projects - “Listy z Placu Zgody” (Letters From Concord Square) and “Oratorium Kalwaryjskie” (Kalwaria Oratorio), which were performed and recorded live before an audience of nearly 50 thousand. This year I’ve also provided lead and backing vocals for Oscar nominated animator Tomasz Bagiński’s

“An Animated History Of Poland”. I’m also looking forward to Polish crooner Wojciech Gassowski’s big band album release in November, as our duet – a rendition of “Dream A Little Dream Of Me” – will be the first single of the album. When not on tour with Brit Floyd, I do a lot of dubbing and voice-overs, record TV adverts and jingles for radio stations. I will also be in the studio to finally record my own music in early 2011. I love Joni Mitchell – Both Sides Now, Billy Holliday – Lady in Satin, John Mayer – Continuum and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E Minor "From the New World"

Jacquie Williams Wolverhampton sometime in the 60's. Hush hush! I started singing professionally at the age of 14. I have performed Backing Vocal's for Musicians such as Michael Buble, Martin Fry, Jason Donovan, Thelma Houston, Richard Derbyshire (Living in a box), Tony Christie, Blue, Kim Sledge (Sister Sledge), Ultravox, Edwin Starr, and many others. In addition I have Solo releases with EMI/Sony/Logic, and Dance hits with "Deconstruction", "Release", "Lies" and "Feel the Love". I also wrote a song that reached the UK chart position no. 6 in 2005 for US Diva Kathy Brown with a song called

"Stronger on my Own", oh the list goes on... If I had to pick a favourite song, it would be "Waiting in Vain" by Bob Marley, because it marks a part of my life that conjures up happy times and memories...innocence. Three interesting facts about myself! I sang the theme tune for the game show "The Gladiators" in 90's. My family won on Family Fortunes and Les Dennis asked me to sing live. Also I was a live model for a Christian Dior range of tights and leggings.

Emily Jollands Lower Hutt, near Wellington, New Zealand, in June 1981. I started off playing the piano, when I was four. I was surrounded by music from a very young age. Aside from playing Cinderella at age 12, running a girls' Gospel Choir and performing in musical theatre productions whilst at school, my professional singing life didn't really begin until I left university in 2003, and got a one-off gig with a certain Australian tribute band who played Pink Floyd. After that first show in Liverpool, the rest, as they say, is history... I have, let's say, a very wide taste in music; I love Led Zeppelin, 'Nick Drake, and Derek

and the Dominos to name just a few. Apart from the fact I was born in New Zealand, which is always a good ice-breaker, I can do a pretty convincing Scouse accent. I have this on good authority. Also, whilst working as a waitress at a family friend's party, aged about fifteen, I managed to sing impromptu backing vocals for Steve Winwood. Four years passed before somebody told me who he was!

bpf_DPS_x7pages_final:Layout 1 15/04/2011 10:09 Page 12

Amy Smith I was born in the 80’s and we’ll leave it at that. I grew up in Liverpool. I was very little when I started playing piano and was always singing as a child. I come from a musical household. I started performing in public at about 11 years old. I graduated from LIPA in 2003. I started working with Damian and Chas and The Australian Pink Floyd Show in autumn 2003 and worked with them on various tours until 2009. In between that I had a record and publishing deal and toured with my own band playing support slots for artists such as KD Lang, Ray Lamontagne, Jamie Cullum and Simply Red. As a little girl I loved

Dionne Warwick, Peggy Lee and Karen Carpenter. Later on in college I spent time listening to Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald and Sandy Denny. I also love ‘Coles Corner’ by Richard Hawley. It’s just a beautifully written, produced and performed album that reminds me of a very special person, place and time in my life.

Gareth Darlington Crewe, Cheshire, England. 1977. I'm the youngest of 3 brother's and 2 sisters, 5 of us being musicians. When I was about 4, my mother caught me banging out the theme tune from 'The Wombles' on my brothers keyboard and said something along the lines of "Oh s**t! Not another one..." And so I started my inevitable journey into the euphonious and strangely compelling world of music. I trained as a classical pianist at the age of 10, then picked up the guitar, and finally ended up learning the Violin. I always had a keen interest in computers as well as music, and ended up combining the

two and learned how to work with DAW's (Cubase/logic etc.). I started performing in bands and mixing in my late teens. Then finally I got into live sound professionally, and found it to be a natural progression from the studio. In 1998 I began working with Damian, mu brother, and the “The Australian Pink Floyd” doing various audio programming/sequencing and sound production jobs, FOH mixing and keyboard tech'ing. The rest is history. I’m really excited about the new Brit Floyd project and working with the guys at ESS. They helped us out big time on the recent Classic Rock Show tour.

Bryan Kolupski Rochester, New York, 1976. At a very early age I began by decorating my Mother’s expensive collection of Encyclopaedia Britannica’s with red crayon. After which I received a proper slapping and decided I should probably expand my horizons and develop my skills in other forms of artistic expression. All kidding aside, in regard to the current work I provide for these concert shows - it all comes down to the experience I had when my Father first took me along to see Pink Floyd's Pulse tour in 1994. Needless to say, it blew me away on such an immense level, musically and visually. To now be in a place where we can expand on the framework the original Pink Floyd shows had laid down before us, gives us so

many fantastic ideas to indulge in for the future. In addition to the video animations I have worked on a great number of projects. including Video and Film Production, Interactive Media Development, Graphic Design and Photography. I also like to doodle, as I am a cartoonist at heart. I have so many influences. There is the obvious; Storm Thorgerson and Gerald Scarfe, however I’m also a huge Salvador Dali fan (needless trivia fact - we actually share the same birthday). I need to mention cartoonists Chuck Jones and Matt Groening, 3D artist & animator Tomasz Bagiński (Fallen Art), stop-motion artists such as Adam Jones and film directors Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Michel Gondry are also quite inspiring.
