Could your discomfort be caused by a hernia?
If you experience a heavy feeling in your abdomen when you bend, pain when you lift heavy objects, or a lump that enlarges when you strain and disappears when you lie down, it could be a hernia. Some hernias with few symptoms may just need monitoring by your primary care physician. Those with more serious symptoms may need treatment. At Mesa View Medical Group, we provide surgical repair for all types of hernias. So don’t wait. Same-day consultations are often available. Call 702-346-1700.

MESSAGE FROM MESQUITE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 2023 BOARD CHAIR CHRISTI NEFF
Welcome to Mesquite!
It’s my pleasure to be in my 6th year of serving on the Chamber Board of Directors, representing Reliance Connects. I’m excited to be the 2023 Board Chair and to carry on supporting our area businesses and community.
I’m proud that this valley has been my home for 30 years. I raised my three children here. I worked at the Peppermill Hotel & Casino when there were only two things on the north side of the freeway- Primex Plastics and the Virgin River Hotel & Casino. Can you even imagine that now? It’s incredible how far our little city has come. There’s great history here, with stories of people working together and supporting the success of each other.
Over the years, there have been businesses that have struggled and are no longer here. These could be our friends and neighbors, who quite possibly put everything they have into opening their business. One of my top priorities is rallying around our local businesses and wonderful community organizations. Let’s support them in any way we can, including shopping there or volunteering our time for great causes.
This is what the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce stands for.
Let’s all show up and support our local businesses and community organizations. Each success is a success for our community and adds to the amazing things Mesquite has to offer. I hope you love Mesquite as much as I do!

BARK! CANINE CLUB & RESORT
Mesquite’s newest attraction is under construction and planning to open Summer 2023!
BARK! Canine Club & Resort is all about the dogs. Imagine a 10+ acre outdoor dog park, complete with water features and lots of interesting areas to investigate, then add a state-of-the-art facility built for one purpose: Make Dogs Happy!
When BARK! Canine Club & Resort opens this year, Mesquite’s canines will enjoy a place that is all for them. Doggie Daycare … resort-style boarding … dockdiving … indoor, climate-controlled dog park … grooming … training … special events … competitions … BARK! really does have it all!
In addition to the indoor park facility, plans include a spacious, outdoor park with trails, ponds and landscaped areas of interest. A designated Travelers’ Rest area will provide a safe place for dogs traveling through Mesquite to take a break from the leash while their owners fill the gas tank and grab a bite.
Resort-style boarding at BARK! Canine Club & Resort gives our fur-friends an experience like no other. No cages (unless your pup prefers a kennel), and rooms that more closely resemble a hotel than a kennel, creates “at-home” comfort while staying with us. BARK! is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so no worrying about your pup being alone in the middle of the
night. Our staff of expert cuddlers will be right there to give them the comfort and one-on-one attention every pup deserves.
Additionally, the entire facility will take advantage of state-of-the-art systems for keeping eyes and ears on your pups when they are in our care. Every Resort room will include a two-way communication system linked to your phone so you can virtually visit with your dog during their stay. They can see and hear you and vice versa! The Doggie Daycare facility includes webcams so you can check in on your pup anytime while they are there. The indoor and outdoor park membership will give you keycard access 24 hours a day so you can take your pup to the parks when it works best for you – hassle free!

Arts and History
Donkey History Museum opened in November 2022 on W Mesquite Blvd, and it has a wonderful display of donkey memorabilia. There is a gift shop inside the museum, and there is no cost for admission.

Gold Butte National Monument
Gold Butte National Monument covers nearly 300,000 acres of remote and rugged desert landscape in southeastern Nevada, where dramatically chiseled red sandstone, twisting canyons, and tree-clad mountains punctuate desolate stretches of the Mojave Desert. The brightly hued sandstone provides a stunning canvas for the area’s famously beautiful rock art, and the desert provides critical habitat. The area is popular for outdoor recreation, and visitors to the monument can hike to rock art sites, drive the Gold Butte Backcountry Byway to the area’s namesake mining ghost town, hunt desert bighorn sheep, or tour the area’s peaks and canyons on horseback.
THE DONKEY HISTORY MUSEUM
The Donkey History Museum is an educational facility dedicated to displaying the historical and cultural contributions of the Domestic Donkey. As a division of Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue, our goal is to show people how important donkeys and mules have been to mankind’s advancement.
Our displays touch on many aspects of donkey history, including their domestication, introduction to the Americas, the 19th century mining boom,
Westward expansion, military use and portrayals in pop-culture. There is also a section dedicated entirely to mules, with a special display about the famous 20-Mule Team of Death Valley, California.
On display are ceramics, toys, household items, military memorabilia, vintage tack, equipment and tools, photographs, art, and even genuine carts and coach wagons. Many of the items on display were donated by Mark and Amy Meyers, who have been collecting donkey
memorabilia since founding Peaceful Valley over twenty years ago.
Another exciting attraction is our Virtual Reality Experience, where visitors can tour the Peaceful Valley Rescue in Texas or experience a 500-donkey stampede. Our aim as a museum is to grow, so we are actively seeking donations or loans of donkey or mule related art, photography, collectibles, books, equipment and tools. We also have a gift shop where visitors can purchase t-shirts, mugs, stuffed toys and many other souvenirs. The best part is, the museum is completely free to the public! We open our doors on November 5th of 2022.

HEALTHCARE
Mesa View Regional Hospital
Health Care and Economic Impacts on the Local Economy
Mesa View Regional Hospital plays an essential role in meeting the health care needs of a growing and increasingly diverse population of 35,000 residents in the Mesquite and Moapa Valley areas. The Hospital is also a key part of the area’s economic development and diversification strategy. Over the past decade, the population of Mesquite has grown by 38.5%. Additionally, the elderly are the largest user of health care services, and those over the age of 65 currently represent 41.4% of the local population
in Mesquite. Health services and public safety are top concerns of the elderly in choosing where to live and retire. A vibrant health sector is important for the ability of rural communities, such as Mesquite, to attract and keep an aging population.
High quality hospital and health care service are also a key component of retaining or recruiting industry and business to the local community. Business decisions to locate or relocate are significantly influenced by the availability of quality education and health services. Mesa View Regional Hospital is thus a key part of the rural community health care system and local economy.
Mesa View Regional Hospital plays a central role in meeting the health care needs of Mesquite and neighboring communities and currently offers a wide-range of inpatient and outpatient services including:
• 25-bed inpatient, acute-care medicalsurgical services, including an intensive care unit (ICU)
• 24/7 emergency care with short wait times
• Laboratory services and full chemistry services, such as hematology
• Radiology and diagnostic imaging services, including CT scan, DEXA scan, digital 3D mammography, nuclear medicine, MRI, ultrasound/ echocardiography, and X-ray
• Cardiac care services
• Infusion therapy services
• Pulmonary and respiratory health services
• Inpatient and outpatient surgical services, including general surgery, gynecological surgery, ophthalmology and cataract surgery, orthopedic surgery, and podiatric surgery
• Quick-care services in Mesquite and Logandale
• Rehabilitation services, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy
• Sleep medicine center, including hospital and at-home sleep study options
• Coumadin Clinic
• Women’s health services, including osteoporosis screening
• Wound care, including hyperbaric oxygen treatment
In addition to meeting local hospital and health care needs of a growing and aging population, Mesa View Regional Hospital is also a critical part of the local economy for Mesquite and surrounding communities in northeastern Nevada and cross-border communities in Utah and Arizona. The health care sector in the Mesquite community is anchored by the hospital, which is responsible for a number of full and part-time jobs and the resulting wages, salaries, and benefits for nearly 200 local residents who work at the hospital. Research on local economies indicates that typically ten to fifteen percent of the jobs
MAMMOGRAPHY
More than 200,000 new cases of breast cancer are discovered in the U.S. each year through preventive screening and diagnostic testing.
At Mesa View Regional Hospital, we know the value of early detection and mammography is a tool we use to identify potential issues. An x-ray of the breast mammography is used to look for breast disease in both women and men. It is a non-invasive, outpatient procedure that is generally not painful. At Mesa View Regional Hospital, we’re dedicated to providing you with the most proactive care possible. If you have questions about your test or the results, your doctor or nurse can answer all your questions. In September of 2022, Mesa View was able to purchase and install new stateof-the-art 3D Digital Mammography equipment, thanks to a grant from the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.
EMERGENCY SERVICES

in a rural community, such as Mesquite, are in health care and rural hospitals are often one of the top employers in rural communities. The employment and resulting wages, salaries, and benefits from the hospital, and its clinics are critical to the local community’s economy.
Research and analysis from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) reveal that Mesa View Regional Hospital has a substantial impact on income, employment, and sales tax revenue in the local economy – a contribution often overlooked in public policy discussions of health care costs, access to care, and community benefits. The hospital plays a critical role in local economic development by creating jobs and income for local residents through the normal hospital operations. The Hospital is also responsible for generating employment and income in other businesses in Mesquite and surrounding communities due to spending by the hospital and its employees.
For the fiscal year 2021 (the most current data available), Mesa View Regional Hospital employed 155 employees and paid $13.6 million in wages, salaries, and benefits to its employees. Utilizing employment and wage multipliers
data from the UNR Center for Economic Development, estimates of the total employment and payroll impact on the local economy were developed for Mesa View Regional Hospital. The employment multiplier for the regional health sector is 2.11, which in turn means for every job in the hospital, an additional 1.11 jobs were created in other businesses and industries in the local economy. The estimated secondary employment impact of Mesa View Regional Hospital is 172 jobs, and the total employment impact is 327 jobs for the local economy.
Similarly, the Hospital generated $13.6 million in labor income for hospital employees during the same fiscal year. Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust
In late November of 2021, The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust awarded Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite, Nevada, $1.9 million through its Rural Healthcare Program, which has awarded more than $11.3 million in grants to help 10 Nevada hospitals purchase state-of-the-art diagnostic and radiology equipment and expand simulation-based training.
Walter Panzirer, a trustee for the Helmsley Charitable Trust, said a detailed analysis of states’ rural healthcare needs identified Nevada as a great fit for Helmsley’s Rural Healthcare Program, and this funding along with future investments hold the potential to revolutionize how healthcare is delivered across Nevada’s rural and urban hospitals.
“Your zip code shouldn’t determine your healthcare outcomes,” Panzirer said. “These grants will help level the playing field for Nevada’s rural hospitals by giving patients
access to the same state-of-the-art equipment found in urban centers.”
The grant funding stems from a recent survey of Nevada’s Critical Access Hospitals, which identified x-ray equipment, ultrasound machines, CT scanners and simulationbased learning as top needs to provide patients with access to up‐to‐date healthcare technology.
The funding for Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite includes purchasing new 3D mammography equipment, a new CT scanner, a new fixed x-ray system and a new portable x-ray unit.
Panzirer, who resides in Nevada and regularly travels across the state, said the Helmsley Charitable Trust looks forward to replicating some of its most successful programs from other states in Nevada while also looking for innovative ideas from its healthcare partners. The Leona M. and Harry B.
Helmsley Charitable Trust aspires to improve lives by supporting exceptional efforts in the U.S. and around the world in health and select place-based initiatives. Since beginning active grantmaking in 2008, Helmsley has committed more than $3 billion for a wide range of charitable purposes. Helmsley’s Rural Healthcare Program funds innovative projects that use information technologies to connect rural patients to emergency medical care, bring the latest medical therapies to patients in remote areas, and provide state-of-the-art training for rural hospitals and EMS personnel. To date, this program has awarded more than $500 million to organizations and initiatives in the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Minnesota, Iowa, Montana and Nevada.
