MAYOR’S MESSAGE

On behalf of our citizens, City staff and Plano City Council, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Plano – the City of Excellence!

Plano is a world-class city, which builds off of a foundation of innovation, safety, recreation, and bountiful employment opportunities. Our strength in diversity and inclusiveness allows us to compete on the global stage for businesses, families, and individuals looking for a place to call home.

Plano is a trailblazer, creating a standard of economic prosperity that cities around the world seek to achieve. Large and small companies continue to grow here, creating a culture of success that fortifies Plano’s economic footing. None of this could be possible without our people. Companies come to Plano due to our educated workforce and diverse talent pool. Plano boasts one of the most educated populace in the country, with 57% of our residents holding a bachelor’s degree or higher. Plano is a smart city.

Our people and businesses are not confined to Plano alone. Plano’s location in the Central Time Zone and close proximity to DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field Airport allows for sameday departures and returns for both the East and West coasts. The accessibility to two major airports allows our businesses to easily work beyond our city.

In addition to great employment opportunities, Plano continues to offer an abundance of amenities for our citizens to explore. Our city has become a destination point for the entire region. Our downtown area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has also been recognized as a Cultural District. So, if you are new to Plano or are considering coming to Plano, this is a small taste of what is in store for you.

Plano is also considered a great place to raise a family. Our schools play a vital role in Plano’s economic success. Its reputation for excellence continues to bring professional families and, in turn, companies to Plano. Our park system is ranked as the best in Texas and one of the best in the nation. We offer world-class libraries and recreation centers. For more than a decade, Plano has continually been ranked as one of the safest, if not the safest, city in America for our size. These amenities and services make Plano a desirable place for working families.
