The University of California, Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine graduated its first class in 2017, launching newly trained physicians into the local workforce. As a result of collaboration between legislators and the City and County of Riverside, UCR, the Chamber, and others, Inland Southern California is now producing its own doctors and the School of Medicine will nearly double its capacity thanks to $100 million included in California’s 2019-2020 Budget. This success contributes to the school’s mission of expanding and diversifying the region’s physician workforce and developing research and healthcare delivery programs to improve the health of the region. Their goal of adding physicians in Inland Southern California not only ensures the health of residents, but also encourages talent to stay and practice locally.
