MANCHESTER UNITED SOCCER SCHOOLS CAMPS 2014 RESIDENTIAL FOOTBALL CAMPS

LEARN TO PLAY THE UNITED WAY “THE EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME”

FOR 8-17 YEAR OLDS

This is how many of our students have described their football camp. Our intensive one-week residential camps are crammed full of activity, providing a sports experience that will be remembered forever.

Each morning students receive football coaching from the world-famous Manchester United Soccer Schools. No matter what their ability, they undergo a comprehensive course covering technique, tactics, physical, mental and social elements of the game in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Our students never forget learning to play the United way! Afternoons are allocated to football seminars led by our expert coaches, or supervised activities including swimming and tennis. Dinner is taken early so that students can make the most of the evening football session, after which they can enjoy some free time. After an evening football session there’s a chance to socialise and enjoy activities with students from across the globe. This is a great opportunity to experience different cultures and gain social confidence. Accommodation in our carefully selected regional centre completes the experience, along with an excursion to Old Trafford. “A massive thank-you to all the team for taking such fabulous care of our son this week. Every member of staff we’ve spoken to has been wonderful, the coaching staff we’ve watched are fabulous and the entire set up and experience for the children is amazing.” Wendy McMinn, 2013 (mother)

FOOTBALL COACHING We teach players how to build up a range of skills, movements and techniques comparable with Manchester United 1st team training. Coaching sessions are designed to allow repetition of these fundamental actions in a fun and exciting way which constantly challenges and motivates players. We help players to develop the courage and confidence to express their ability in games. We help them to understand and learn from their mistakes. The camps represent a completely international soccer environment with players joining from all over the world.

THE COACHES Manchester United Soccer Schools coaches are selected and trained in Manchester. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS accommodation is provided, along with all the excursions. Students may wish to bring some money for souvenirs and extra drinks/snacks.

Will my child get spotted by Manchester United and become a Manchester United player? The main objective of every Manchester United Soccer Schools camp is for all players to achieve success regardless of ability. Camps are not designed for talent identification. However, we are confident that a player will leave with the knowledge and skills to continue to improve. How does the football coaching work? Camps are open to players of all abilities. The MUSS coaches are UEFA-qualified and trained by Manchester United. All players play within specific age groups with a maximum of 16 per group. They have the same MUSS coach throughout the camp. Can my child stay for more than one camp? Each camp lasts 5 nights, so if students would like to stay for longer they can book 2 successive camps. They can either return home for the weekend or book a weekend stay in between camps, which includes a trip to Alton Towers theme park on Saturday.

How can I contact my child on site? We recommend that each child has their own phone to contact you from. The camp will also have an emergency contact phone, and you will be given that number before the camp starts. What happens to my child’s passport and valuables? We ask for passports, tickets, money and valuables when they check in. All valuables will be kept in the camp ‘bank’ and given out at certain times of the day. What happens if my child is unwell or injured? Our staff will assess the severity of the child’s condition. We will make the decision as to whether the child needs to see a doctor or needs treatment at the local hospital. If emergency treatment is needed, we make every effort to contact parents/ guardians beforehand. Will football kit be provided? Yes, each child receives Manchester United socks, shorts, training top, rain jacket, water bottle and bag. Bringing extra kit is recommended. Note; boots and shin pads are NOT provided but are required. Is there a laundry service on site? Yes, for a small fee. Children should bring enough clothes for the 5 night camp, however for those staying for multiple camps, staff will ensure children are putting out their clothes to wash at the weekend.

Will my child meet any Manchester United players? Unfortunately not, Manchester United players are either on tour or on holiday at this time of year!

Is there accessible internet/Wi-Fi? Children can either access free Wi-Fi around site or have access to an IT computer room. The times of use are limited.

Will my child need pocket money? This is entirely up to you. All the food and

Who will my child be sharing a room with? We arrange room shares by age. We have a strict policy on age and gender sharing in rooms. We try to accommodate room requests where we can but this cannot be guaranteed and we look for your understanding when this is not possible. Will there be a member of staff to greet my child at the airport? Yes. All airport transfers booked through us will be greeted by a member of our staff who will ensure they transfer safely to camp. Will my child be allowed off site? Children are not routinely allowed off site. They can be signed out by a parent with prior

warning. The only time they leave the site is when the whole camp are out on excursions together. Can parents/guardians visit children during their stay? Yes, there is an allocated visit day when parents are invited to come and watch a football session and see their child. If I can’t get to Old Trafford to collect my child on Friday, what can I do? If you would prefer to collect your child from Denstone College on Saturday morning you can book an extra night, which includes transport back to Denstone, an evening meal, accommodation and breakfast. Are all meals provided? Yes. 3 meals a day are provided on-site with plenty of options. On excursions they will receive a packed lunch. Menus take into account the amount of activity and sport played. Vegetarian options are offered as well as choices of hot meat or fish dishes, seasonal vegetables, salads, bread, desserts and fruit. Players are also given an evening snack. Can you meet my child at the airport? Here is our procedure: • Visit our website to book your camp • After booking, purchase an airport transfer through your online account • Provide us with details of your flight in your online account • On arrival, a designated member of staff will be there to greet your child, and an arranged taxi or coach will transport your child to camp • At departure we will escort your child to the airport and check them in
