MESSIAH Sing-Along Eleanor Chu Soprano Eleanor graduated from the Royal College of Music (RCM), London, with a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance. She studied with Sally Burgess and received coaching from Simon Lepper, Nancy Cooley, and Christopher Middleton. Other than operatic roles such as Angelica in Orlando by Handel and Flora in The Turn of the Screw by Britten, she has performed as a soloist for different choirs including London's East West Gala Chorus and Watford Chinese Association Chorus, and Hong Kong's Chung Chi Choir, Aqua Voice, and Diocesan Choral Society. She has also given solo recitals in Recital Hall, RCM and St. Matthew's, Bayswater in London.
Ruth Lau Mezzo-soprano Ruth obtained her Master of Music degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. As a chorister and soloist, Ruth has sung with SingFest Choral Academy in concerts featuring Bach’s Magnificat in D major and Mass in B minor, and Handel’s Messiah. She has collaborated with the Hong Kong Youth Choir as a soloist in the Asian premiere of Cecilia MacDowall’s Magnificat; with Die Konzertisten in concerts featuring Bach’s Advent cantatas; and with the Hong Kong Oratorio Society in Handel’s Dettingen Te Deum. Ruth also involves actively in operas. In masterclasses across Europe, she has also worked with internationally renowned artists such as Peter Philip, Helmuth Rilling, and Emma Kirkby.
Justin Li Tenor Justin began his vocal training with tenor David Quah and continued to study under the tutelage of Catrin Johnsson and David Harper. He was the winner of UK Spring Grove Music Festival Young Voices Category in 2006 and received a number of awards in Hong Kong. In 2008, he obtained his Licentiate Diploma in Recital in Voice with distinction from the Trinity College, London. As a soloist, he has collaborated with the Hong Kong Young People’s Chorus, the Hong Kong Voices, Die Konzertisten, and SingFest Choral Academy. He has also worked with Die Konzertisten and SingFest Choral Academy as a guest soloist in their various early music projects including Bach’s Cantata BWV 21 and St John Passion.
Felix Shuen Baritone Felix obtained his Master of Music degree in conducting at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, New York. In 2003, he received the Ms. Barbara Fei Vocal Scholarship at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. He is an active soloist and chorister performing in different choirs. His solo performances include Bach’s Cantata BWV 140, Chilcott’s St John Passion, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, and Vaughan Williams’ Mass in G minor. He also serves as the chorusmaster of Hong Kong Singfest, the conductor of Hong Kong Young People’s Chorus, and Diocesan Boys’ School Choir. Felix is currently the Head of Diocesan Boys’ School’s Music Department.
Andrew Ling Conductor Andrew began playing the violin at the age of six with Professor Lin Yaoji at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and went on to pursue Violin Performance at the Indiana University with Henryk Kowalski and Mauricio Fuks, and at the Rice University with Cho-Liang Lin. He has garnered acclaim for his orchestral playing and solo recitals worldwide and collaborated as a chamber musician with renowned musicians including Yuja Wang and Cho-Liang Lin. As a multi-talented musician, he also engaged in conducting and has worked with masters such as Jaap van Zweden and Lorin Maazel in the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil). He is now the Principal Violist of the HK Phil.
Caleb Woo Chorusmaster Caleb graduated with a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, New York. He is now the Music Director of Tuen Mun Alliance Church, the Voice Instructor of the CUHK Music Department, the Coordinator of the HKBU Ensemble Music Ministries, and also the Conductor of HKU Chamber Singers.
Siu Tsz Him Chorusmaster Tsz Him is a student at the University of Hong Kong. During his studies at the Diocesan Boys' School, he has already been passionate about singing and conducting in choirs. He currently serves as the assistant conductor and accompanist for the Diocesan Choral Society.
Anders Hui Concertmaster Anders won the Canadian Music Competition at the age of 17 and then pursued his Master's and Bachelor's degrees at the Indiana University Jacob School of Music, studying with Mauricio Fuks and Nelli Shkolnikova. While at the Indiana University, he won the Brahms Violin Concerto Competition and performed with the IU Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2010, he joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and is currently the Second Associate Concertmaster of the Orchestra and an adjunct faculty member of the Music Department at Hong Kong Baptist University.
