The choirmaster of Hong Kong's Die Konzertisten, Sanders Lau, will conduct this guided concert, presenting excerpts from J.S. Bach’s monumental Mass in B Minor and explaining how H.I.P. aims to restore the original audience experience with artistic faithfulness. Participants will also get to discover the unique sounds of period instruments up close.

This seminal work depicts a young journeyman wandering in the countryside. He falls in love with a beautiful young maiden, only to find himself the victim of unreciprocated love, and decides to end his life out of despair and heartbreak. Set to poems by Wilhelm Müller, the collection consists of 20 songs, with the mood gradually evolving from cheerful optimism to despair and eventual tragedy.
Also set to poems by Wilhelm Müller, Winterreise describes a sombre winterscape that underlines the bleak journey of a young forest wanderer suffering from lost love and loneliness. Composed of 24 songs, Winterreise reflects the composer's desolation and struggle toward the final months of his short life.

Nobuyuki Tsujii & Orpheus Chamber Orchestra
"The piano is an extension of my own body," says Nobuyuki Tsujii, the remarkable Japanese pianist who has been blind from birth. Learning by ear, Nobu (as he prefers to be known) gave his debut recital in Tokyo at the age of 12, and in less than 10 years he won a Gold Medal at the prestigious Van Cliburn Piano Competition. In this highly anticipated Hong Kong debut, the audience will hear Nobu's performance of Chopin's Second Concerto, with his effortless technique, beautiful tone, and expressive musicianship.

On the same stage will be New York's Grammy-winning Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, minus the conductor though, as the orchestra is determined to impress the audience with its famous collaborative leadership style, delivering two arrangements by Shuying Li and Christopher Theofanidis as well as a work by Anton Arensky.

This May, he will return to the University to curate something even more 'timeless': in a series of four diverse programmes, he will attempt to eliminate the boundaries of time, culture, and genre, introducing to the Hong Kong audience his concept of 'crossover'.

Rondeau will present an ambitious dialogue on Bach and Scarlatti’s works. With a harpsichord and a piano present on stage, Rondeau will first unveil a selection of the two composers' works on the harpsichord, before proceeding to the modern piano to show off his virtuosic improvisations on the same tunes. Through his use of the Baroque period’s improvisatory performance style in a modern setting, Rondeau will reveal his secret blend of musical antiquity and modernity.
