about me My roots stem from Firth, Nebraska, where small town values and hard work can get you anywhere in life. I have a strong sense of pride coming from the Midwest because it teaches us the values of respect, responsibility, and hard work. These three values are standards that I continue to hold as imperative to this day. My passion for architecture and the design field derives from the notion that one is truly never done learning or growing. I have a passion to continue pushing my critical thinking and strengthen my abilities by opening my mind up to many alternatives that the field of design encapsulates. Design is never truly over nor is the ability of a designer to challenge and expand their mind.
Community Health Center Hickman The goal of this proposal was to investigate a possible design solution for a community underserved by healthcare options and that fit the criteria of a Critical Access Hospital (CAH). Located in Hickman, Nebraska, Element Wellness encompasses a community hospital by catering to the needs of the community and expanding upon what is great about the area. The program of this proposal consists of various parts that are used by the community: a garden space, outpatient pharmacy, cafe space along the trail winding around and through the program, art therapy space and classes, and a community event space which culmates in a waterfront park area to be used year-round by the city of Hickman’s residents. How can our design promote health, education, and social interactions in order to ignite a relationship between the hospital and its community? Element Wellness was branded through this search question resulting in the metaphorical design cues of Natural, Fluid, and Ignite. This project was in collaboration with Amanda Walters, Interior Design.

City Impact Trades Academy Lincoln Working closely with City Impact, a local non-profit focused on neighborhood community building and education oppotunities for children and adults, I was able to understand the needs of the community as well as the restrictions and real-life constraints of a non-profit. The goal of this real-world proposal was to understand the client’s needs and a possible design solution for a non-profit partner in Lincoln, Nebraska. The program of this proposal consists of various parts that are used by the community: a trades academy focusing on electrical, mechanical, and HVAC programs, incubator style office space, retail component of a cafe space, and low income housing opportunities. This design focused on how the community can access and use this facility as well as how City Impact’s mission can play a vital role in building design and concept. Both mentorship housing as well as a community main street were design cues directly taken from ideas surrounding our clients wishes. This project was in collaboration with Nicole Echtenkamp, Architecture.

As society reconsiders growing its future urban environment, it can no longer ignore the requirements of sustainability. To achieve this goal, ciites must start with the reintegration of natural systems into its framework to establish greater harmony between settlement and nature. This project has multiple goals but above all it is intended to put in place the community infrastructure necessary to allow the graceful and efficient assimilation of new residents. To address this challenge schools, community facilities, and new housing have been identified by the city as the primary program for the project. There is a further desire, in the spirit of pursuing the agenda of sustainable urbanism, to establish as much autonomy as possible in meeting the water, energy, waste, and food needs of the project population. This project was three part: one part sustainability research, one part identifying the needs of the community, and one part architectural design of a portion of the site.

Box House One Neighborworks Lincoln The intention of this real-world design was to understand Neighborworks Lincoln, our client, and the homeowning experience as a whole. This particular project involved using two 40’ long shipping containers as the main element of the home as well as inheriting the structural properties of the container as the structure of the house. The house contains three bedrooms and two bathrooms with a central living and dining room enclosed between the two exposed shipping containters. This home, when completed, will be the first of its kind in Lincoln, Nebraska. This project was created from concept through detailed construction documents. This project was in collaboration with other FACT (Fabrication and Construction Team) students.

professional work SSH Architecture As I worked as an Architectural Intern for SSH Architecture in Lincoln, Nebraska I had the opportunity to work on various projects and project types at different phases of completion with varying levels of resposibility. My responsibilities included creating schematic designs, permit drawings, construction documents, and creating concept drawings and renderings for client presentations. Project types included educational facilities, multi-family housing, commercial, residential, military, and religious work.
While at SSH Architecture I was tasked with creating a digital presence for the firm. In a short two weeks, I was able to create a functional website for the firm outlining the mission, values, team, previous projects, and services offered by SSH Architecture.

CL Construction Civil Grading Plan
CL Construction Exterior Panel and Signage Details
CL Construction approached the firm to design a storage building for self use as well as a tenant lease option using tilt-up concrete. I was asked to become project lead on this design and work through the process with the client. I completed concept sketches, schematic design, design development, and construction documents as well as civil documents with several meetings with the client. I was able to expand signage for this building by using a unique panel design to increase visiblity from the road. Ballard Avenue Mixed-Use Development is a private development designed as the new home of SSH Architecture. Set in Lincoln’s Historic Havelock Neighborhood, it was the concept and goal of the design to appear industrial and as three separtate buildings, similar to the Main Street facade design along Havelock Avenue. This project consists of eight two-bedroom condominiums as well as office space on the first floor. I was responsible for civil drawings, concepts, and office interior design. As I worked as a framer for Meals Homes in Lincoln, Nebraska I had the opportunity to work through many of the various parts of residential construction, from framing to finish work, labor to design. My responsibilities included framing and finish work. As I began A-200 to advance in my education I was able to create the opportunity for custom homes to be designed for Meals Homes clients. My responsibility now includes schematic design, permit drawings, and construction documents.

Partnering with Meals Homes, I had the opportunity to design a home for Alan and Carrie Duke, a client who approached Meals Homes with the desire to design and build a 4 bedroom - 3 bathroom, 2,500 sf home for them. As an older couple, the Duke’s were concerned with aging-in-place so all amenities they would need on a daily basis were included on the main level.

John and Kaila Meals approached Meals Homes with the idea of constructing their first family home. As a young, growing family it was desirous of the clients to keep all the bedrooms of their children to the main level as well as providing the most impact for monetary value that we could. This design cosists of a 5 bedroom - 3 bathroom, 2,750 sf home. This home was designed and constructed without the need for trusses. At the time of design there was a two month backorder on manufactured trusses so the floorplan and structure was tailored around this constraint to expedite the construction timeline.
