Aventura Hospital celebrates opening of Jewish Hospitality Room Aventura Hospital is proud to celebrate the opening of its new Jewish Hospitality Room. This facility is a designated space where Jewish visitors can fulfill their religious obligations during the Sabbath, Jewish holidays and other occasions. Located on the seventh floor of the hospital's north tower, the Jewish Hospitality Room is a joint project of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, the Yehuda Memorial Foundation of New York and the Gesher Tzedaka Foundation. The Yehuda Memorial Foundation was created by Miriam Alexander, a former patient in the New York healthcare system who has funded development of Jewish hospitality spaces in various hospital facilities. The Gesher Tzedaka Foundation was founded by Efi Fixler, a local businessman and owner of Gold Coach Tours, as an expression of his commitment to the mitzvah (positive deed) of visiting the infirm. Rabbi Frederick L. Klein, director of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation's Community Chaplaincy Program, praised both foundations for filling an important void for
traditional Jews. He explained that he visits hospitals as a volunteer chaplain and understands the added stress that many Jews feel when they are faced with the choice of staying with hospitalized relatives or practicing their religious beliefs. "We thank the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, the Yehuda Memorial Foundation of New York and the Gesher Tzedaka Foundation for donating the Jewish Hospitality Room to our hospital," stated Heather J. Rohan, CEO of Aventura Hospital. "We welcome those initiatives that help us improve the world-class service already provided to our patients and their families in our facility." The Jewish Hospitality Room complements many other amenities at Aventura Hospital that are reflective of the healthcare facility's commitment to the Jewish community. These amenities include a full kosher food service for all hospital rooms, kosher food in the cafeteria, a Sabbath elevator, and candles for in-hospital room use during the Sabbath and Jewish holidays. VIEWPOINT Presidents need help for fundamental change BY STEVE SCHNAPP Barack Obama certainly owes his success to a newly energized and well-organized coalition of Democrats. But he also benefited greatly from the confluence of economic disasters that burst upon the campaign in its final weeks. Obama's response proved to be the right one. He argued forcefully that the trickle-down policies of the Reagan era and the deregulation of the Bush years had been tried and found wanting. He argued for rebuilding the economy from the bottom up rather than the top down, for paying attention to who benefits ultimately from multibillion dollar decisions made in Washington. And he convinced undecided voters he was the better man for the job. He now faces enormous difficulties in making good on his promise of fundamental changes to the economy. Almost immediately, commentators started dismissing the progressive populist mandate saying that we're still a “center-right nation.” And the economic downturn itself could make it increasingly difficult to move legislation and government programs in new directions. There is no simple way to predict how a president will act in challenging times, but history shows us that even our most powerful presidents needed strong support - and even pressure - from organized groups to achieve success. Before the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln opposed the effort to declare slavery illegal, citing the doctrine of states' rights. Only after the war started going badly and he feared the loss of support of the abolitionists did he change his mind. According to historian Richard Hofstadter, Lincoln was like “a delicate barometer [recording] the trend of pressures, and as the Radical pressure increased he moved toward the left.” In the 1930's, massive numbers of people, organized into groups of labor unions, tenants, and the unemployed, put tremendous pressure on Franklin Roosevelt to improve their lot and halt the excesses of the wealthy. Roosevelt responded brilliantly with the New Deal, which he broadened into a unifying solution not only for the grassroots, but also for significant numbers of wealthy people who became allies, pro-
viding him with important ideological support. During the 1960's, Lyndon Johnson was busy twisting the arms of his colleagues so that they would accept the notion of civil rights as “an idea whose time has come.” Bill Moyers, one of Johnson's aides, noted at a meeting between Johnson and M.L. King that, “[LBJ] … said, in effect: 'OK. You go out there Dr. King and keep doing what you're doing, and make it possible for me to do the right thing.' … So King marched and Johnson maneuvered and Congress folded.” As did Roosevelt before him, Johnson obviously used the force of his personality in exercising moral leadership. But he also needed to appear to respond to King's outside pressure, to convince the broad populace, especially in the South, that Johnson's path was best for the nation as a whole. The parallels between the tipping points for previous social change movements and today are many. But can today's electoral coalition grow into a movement for fundamental economic change rivaling the power of past movements for social change? Let us hope so. And let us do what we can to support it by continuing to educate ourselves about the rules that underlie the economy and using our voices and actions to inspire others to join the cause. Turning from 30 years of economic rules that benefit mostly the wealthy to a more equitable approach will be a challenge, but a large, committed grassroots movement could carry the same power of previous ones. Perhaps then we can be assured that Sen. Barack Obama's “Yes, we can” doesn't turn into President Obama's “No We Can't.” It's up to us. As President-elect Obama himself said, “I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to. It belongs to you.” -Steve Schnapp is a senior education specialist for United for a Fair Economy, which raises awareness about the dangers of growing economic inequality and concentrated wealth and power. http://faireconomy.org
Support our troops - Let’em vote BY RYAN ALEXANDER The election system used by our military and other citizens serving away from home is in shambles. In the national election in 2006, just 5.5 percent of such people voted, according to a report by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC). Compare that to an overall 2006 domestic turnout of 48 percent (still too low). But the report also indicates that the low turnout in the overseas group is not for a lack of trying or money. Unsurprisingly, it looks like the various military and other bureaucracies in charge of making sure our most dedicated public servants can select their elected leaders, are falling short. Not only are millions of U.S. citizens effectively being shut out of participating in their democracy, we're wasting millions of dollars in taxpayer money in the process. Congress has been trying to fix the problem by directing the Department of Defense (DOD) to come up with a better fax and email system to facilitate a simpler remote voting method. But progress has been pathetic. Snail mail absentee ballots for these voters has been in place for a while, but in 2000 DOD launched a pilot program that investigated using an electronic email/fax combination. In 2004, 17 people received ballots through the system at a total cost of $576,000; in 2006, DOD reported eight ballots cast at a cost of about $1.1 million. Not exactly cost-effective. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) estimates there are 6 million American who fall into the category covered by the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA). These include overseas military and their families, civilians working overseas, as well as military and civilians working in the United States, but whose work requires
them to live where they are not registered to vote. In addition to the failed electronic system described above, UOCAVA-related voters are able to utilize the more traditional mail absentee ballot method to vote. However, especially for the military, the logistical hurdles have resulted in very low voter participation. An individual has to request a ballot from the appropriate source by the deadline, receive it, fill it out correctly, and return it in time for the vote to count. According to the EAC report, in 2006 less than 1 million of the UOCAVAeligible people requested an absentee ballot, and of those, only 264,000 ballots were actually cast in the election. These are not new problems, according to recent studies. But in this digital day and age when people can safely file their local and federal income taxes from their home computers, it's a disgrace that some of the most dedicated of our citizens are effectively disenfranchised at the ballot box by an archaic system. DOD claims it can't implement a new email-based system until the EAC writes their guidelines for Internet based voting. In other words, millions of people, who in many cases are putting their lives on the line for the rest of us, continue to be denied the ability to choose their commander-inchief and other leaders. There is no excuse for DOD and federal elections officials wasting millions of dollars in failing efforts to cost-effectively construct an electronic system that allows military and civilian public servants to safely and securely participate in electing their leaders. Republic Federal Bank ~ Aventura hosts "Bank on Your Future" event for Hillel students As part of their mission to provide "red carpet treatment," Republic Federal Bank recently hosted a special evening for Hillel's Second Generation students who are preparing to enter the work force, many with an interest primarily in banking.
Sharing his experience of entering the banking world was special guest Daniel Schwartz, President of Republic Federal Bank. After a brief introduction by Sr. Vice President Dr. Rachel Lapidot, Schwartz spoke frankly with the group, recounting how he as a young man chose banking as a career. He emphasized the importance of enjoying what one does professionally saying, "If you don't like what you are doing, your quality of work will reflect it." Schwartz touched on the subject of how the banking world has changed since 2001 resulting in increased security and compliance which has inadvertently opened up opportunities in these fields for young people who are willing to start at the bottom. He added that another field that offers entry level positions is customer service, which provides a wonderful and nearly essential training. Republic Federal Bank's Treasurer Clotilde Levi spoke briefly with students (L-R) Republic Federal Bank Sr. VP Dr. Rachel Lapidot, about the inner-operations of the bank stating, President Daniel Schwartz and Treasurer Clotilde Levi; "Republic Federal offers a broad multi-disciEliana Kelmeszes, director, Hillel’s H2G; Susy Leon, board plinary experience that new hires may not member, Republic Federal

Life in the City BY BARI AUERBACH ‘Vote for Change’ Now that we have a new President elect – change is on the way…But what if we could have gone to the polls to vote for change in Aventura? Just imagine if there could have been ballot questions like these: Would you change traffic light timings? Vote “yes” is you’ve ever been at a light that takes forever to turn green - just long enough for two - and half your car to make it through. Would you change parking space widths? Vote “yes” if you don’t have a car with a sunroof you can climb out of - or if you don’t want to diet down to squeeze out when an Escalade that thinks it’s a Mini Cooper is in the spot next to you. Would you change portion sizes? Vote “yes” to transfer oversized portions from the Cheesecake Factory or Mo’s to some of those really expensive restaurants where you leave hungry and pay extra for artistic swirls on a plate. Would you change rules? Vote “no” if you don’t think there should be 15 items allowed in express lanes; caps on credit
cards curtailing how much you spend at Aventura Mall; or limits on time you can spend talking on your cell while sitting on a machine at the gym. Would you change attitudes? Vote “no” only if you’ve grown accustomed to robotic, monotone “next in line” greetings; horn abuse by other motorists you don’t drive fast enough for; and out-of-turn take-outers who simply must get their deli meats before you do! Would you change names? Vote “yes” if you think the names of Aventura condos are too similar (ie) Eldorado, Ensenada, Delprado, Delvista, Bonavista, Bella Vista, Bella Mare, Hamptons South, Hamptons West, Parc at Turnberry, Parc Central, East, Turnberry Isle, Turnberry on the Green, Turnberry Village, Turnberry Towers, Waterview, Waterways, The Point, Mystic Pointe, Biscaya, Biscayne Cove, etc. etc. Would you change places? Vote “no” if you wouldn’t want to live anywhere but Aventura, where you never have to complain about shoveling snow, worry about crime, pay high city taxes - or drive too far to find a Starbucks…So although it’s true change can be good, everyone who loves life in the city would never want a change of address!

EWM Realtors' Randi Rapp sees opportunities in the housing market BY LYNN CARROLL LC: How is EWM Realtors weathering the downturn?
PROVOCATIVE QUESTIONS FOR PROVOCATIVE PEOPLE LC: Is the housing market dead, or is there still some activity?
RR: We are doing well because we're a large, strong company. We receive a lot of support and all the latest internet technology from our company. And yet it doesn't feel like a big corporation.
RR: There are signs of life, people who are buying. We're not going to come out of this overnight, but the market is becoming more stable. For a while we weren't seeing many buyers, but now a lot of our associates are busy showing properties. Some buyers are Canadians or Europeans, but there are also many locals ready to seize an opportunity. The prices are so low right now that people know they are getting good deals. I'm interested myself and the associates are also looking at buying. When we feel like we should be taking advantage of this moment ourselves, that's a good sign.
EWM makes it simple; there is minimal red tape for a large company. I think the associates like that and I know that I do too! And because the company is so well known, it's very easy to get things accomplished, such as getting more banks onboard with REOs. That reputation also helps both our customers and our agents. LC: What are REOs?
LC: What's your advice to investors whose properties are worth less than they expected in today's market?
RR: REO stands for "real estate owned" - a term used for properties banks have repossessed through foreclosure and now want to resell. EWM has a whole division that handles REOs for lending institutions; the company does the management side which gives reassurance to the asset managers that things will be taken care of efficiently. Which in turn is an enticement for them to work with us. This way our REO specialists can dedicate themselves to give us the properties.
RR: I think it's sad that a lot of people are now just resigned to losing their property. My advice would be, if you can hold on and rent the property, you will be better off. Wait for the market to recover and it will. EWM's Aventura office is located at 2750 Miami Gardens Drive. For more information, call (305) 9372003 or visit ewm.com
Hampton Inn hosts Aventura Marketing Council program on Florida SunPass Aventura Marketing Council's Business Development Committee recently gathered at Hampton Inn Hallandale Beach / Aventura for an update on Florida's SunPass system. SunPass Deputy Director of Toll Operations Orlando Torres spoke with AMC members about the evolution of tolling, the new SunPass Mini and upcoming changes on the Turnpike system. Since its first opening in 1957, the Turnpike has transitioned from its ticket system, to its coin system in the 90's, and is now streamlining the transition to the wildly successful SunPass, making the commute easier and less stressful for all users who choose the speed and convenience available via today's

electronic technology. Already saving the average consumer $100 to $150 per year and processing more than four times the traffic of conventional lanes, SunPass is soon to save consumers time when parking at any Florida airport as the technology is currently being tested and implemented for faster, more efficient parking tolls. New SunPass "Mini" transponders can now be purchased for $4.99 at Publix Supermarkets, CVS, Navarro's, Sedano's and any Turnpike plaza. Upon activation, $4.99 in tolls will be returned to the device, essentially making the Mini "free." Once attached to the windshield, the Mini is activated and will not operate if removed. With the Mini, there are no lights, beeps

or batteries to deal with. However, those who prefer the battery-operated transponders can still purchase those, an option preferable for those who share the item among multiple vehicles. Shelley Costin of Miami Gardens Florist noted that she is a 100% satisfied SunPass customer and that she found the service not only convenient but easy to purchase and use. She further commented on how attentive the customer service representatives are and how user-friendly SunPass.com is, further supporting the J.D. Power & Associates research indicating 96% of SunPass users are satisfied customers. For more information, visit sunpass.com; floridasturnpike.com; myflorida511.com

ASK DR. RUTH BY DR. RUTH WESTHEIMER
Dreads her wedding night Q: I recently broke up with a guy who had a fairly big penis. Now I’m going to marry my high-school sweetheart, who is on the smaller side of men. I have refused to have sex with him before marriage, and he respects that and does not pressure me. What I am dreading is my wedding night with this wonderful man because I have no doubt that he will float in me. I am sure there are a lot of other ways to satisfy one another, but I am sure my boyfriend will want it the traditional way the first time after waiting so long. I dread the day I get mar-

ried, so please help me. A: Have you ever really dreaded something, like going to the dentist, and afterward it turned out not to be so bad? The most important thing you can do to save not only your wedding day and night but also your marriage is to change your attitude. The key is whether you really love each other. If you do, you can work out the sexual aspects, which might not be as bad as you are making them out to be. But let’s take the worst scenario, that the only way you can achieve sexual satisfaction is by having the feeling of a big penis inside you, which he doesn’t have. If that happens, you go out and buy a rubber penis enlarger that he places over his penis, so that you get the feelings you desire. If you can share your love and you can both get orgasms, then that is what is important. Doing it the so-called traditional way, which rarely satisfies both partners in any case, is not so important that you should allow this dread to spoil such a wonderful day and night.

Costco North Miami Beach attracts 'maximum' turnout for AMC SpeedBiz Maximizing business exposure was the theme of a recent Aventura Marketing Council (AMC) SpeedBiz networker hosted by Costco in North Miami Beach. Before Costco opened to the general public, AMC members had the store all to themselves while they maximized their time participating in ever-popular SpeedBiz before breaking for a private shopping extravaganza resulting in maximum savings while maximizing on time. Modeled after well-publicized Speed Dating, AMC's SpeedBiz connects members one-on-one, providing the perfect opportunity to exchange business cards and brief introductions in a fast-paced setting. SpeedBiz is designed to maximize member referrals and business leads in a minimum amount of time. After participating in a round of SpeedBiz, the groundwork is laid for members to develop business relationships and friendships ultimately resulting in AMC's mission - members doing business with each other. "SpeedBiz was an exceptional collaboration between AMC and Costco," says Jentry Redinger of FastCare. "From the beautiful breakfast arrangement to the vast turnout of AMC participants, the

Historically Yours BY BOB DIAMOND Two Woman And the Kosher Meat Boycott In May, 1902, two Jewish homemakers on New York’s lower East Side, with families to feed on a limited income, enraged as the retail price of kosher meat jumped from 12 to 18 cents a pound, went door to door mobilizing the neighborhood, agitating a strike. Sarah Edelstein and Fanny Levy decided to fight back against the “Trusts,” which had cornered the market in commodities, including beef. The small retail kosher butchers of New York had previously tried an unsuccessful boycott against the “Trusts.” On May 15, the New York Herald reported that 20,000 women on the lower East Side broke into kosher butcher shops, took the meat into the streets, soaked it with gasoline and set it on fire. In addition, they stood in the streets, pleading against purchases. The police arrested 70 Jewish women. The Herald reported that the women “were pushed and hustled about (by the policethrown to the pavement and trampled upon.” One woman responded by slapping a police
officer in the face “with a moist piece of liver.” The headline of the Yiddish newspaper, The Forward, was “Bravo, Bravo, Bravo, Jewish Women!” The New York Times, in opposition to the boycott, called for repression of this “dangerous class…especially women (who) are very ignorant (and) …mostly speak a foreign language.” The Times then softened its language, with the hope that “the disturbances …might give the Beef Combine something to think about rather seriously.” The Jewish women’s boycott spread to Brooklyn, Newark, Boston, and Philadelphia. Women addressed their synagogues to support their tactics. Under pressure from the women, the Retail Butchers Association aligned itself with the boycotters. A week later, Orthodox religious leaders, who had remained on the sidelines, endorsed the boycott. By June 9, the retail price of kosher beef dropped to 14 cents a pound. The boycott ended and the retail shops were back in business. Many of the boycotters were not yet American citizens, but they had lived here long enough to learn about our freedom of speech and the power of protest, which ultimately led to major reforms against the Monopolistic Combines.

New figures indicate Florida’s unemployment rate is growing
Al Sunshine 4 YOUR MONEY The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August 2008 stands at 6.5 percent. This represents 606,000 jobless out of a labor force of 9,320,000. The unemployment rate is up 0.3 percent from the revised July rate of 6.2 percent and is up 2.3 percent from the August 2007 rate. Florida’s August 2008 unemployment rate is the highest since January 1995, which also was 6.5 percent. The state’s current unemployment rate is 0.4 percent higher than the national unemployment rate of 6.1 percent. Florida’s annual nonagricultural employment growth rate for August 2008 was minus 1.2 percent. The rate represents a loss of 99,100 jobs from August 2007, to reach a total employment level of 7,924,400. This is slower than the national rate for August which is down 0.2 percent. The August 2008 job growth rate continues the trend of negative over-the-year growth that began in September 2007, primarily due to declines in construction. To help reinvigorate the economy, the Agency for Workforce Innovation is working to support Florida Gov. Charlie Crist’s economic stimulus initiative, Accelerate Florida. One of the major components of Accelerate Florida is job creation.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES If you’re looking for work, the state can offer some assistance. To help Floridians seeking employment, the state’s workforce system offers a vast array of community-based and other easily accessible services. Traditional services, available in local communities throughout the state, include resume writing assistance, skills assessments, training and job placement. Florida’s job seekers also may take advantage of several new and innovative methods of locating high-demand occupations, including the recently launched one-stop portal <www.BigBendHealth.com>. Created through a collaboration of Workforce plus economic development, healthcare, education and other key partners, BigBendHealth.com is designed for citizens who wish to apply for, or obtain training to qualify for, any of more than 400 healthcare jobs currently listed in North Florida. Florida’s job seekers also may access workforce services and resources at the Employ Florida Marketplace (www.EmployFlorida.com), which currently has more than 63,000 registered employers and lists more than 192,000 jobs throughout the state. The site offers comprehensive services to employers and job seekers alike, and averages more than 5.7 million hits a day. Are you a jumper?
•Miami-Dade County•
BY PATRICIA C. FRANK Are you a jumper? Do you jump into, jump over, jump down or get the jump on? Do you get a jump start and jump the gun? Some things are better to jump for than others. It is good to jump for joy. It is not good to jump to conclusions. If you know someone who always jumps to conclusions, you have probably noticed that their conclusions are usually wrong. They make assumptions without any knowledge or understanding of the situation. Their remarks put you on the defensive time they do it. You resent having to defend yourself and it is frustrating and annoying. One reason is that their conclusion is often insulting and implies that you do not have good sense or that you are doing something wrong or stupid. When they jump to conclusions, they assume things about your character that are not true and not complimentary. Their assumptions are really a reflection of who they are. Because they think in this manner, they assume that others think like they think and act like they would act. Their assumptions always get them into trouble because they
usually misinterpret everything. As a result, they are always putting their foot in their mouth. It is a bad habit. It’s a bad way of interacting with the world. At work, it is difficult to handle. The boss usually hates to be wrong. So you have to be diplomatic when explaining the situation. You have to try not to overreact. You have to be cautious when defending yourself. You have to avoid sounding like you are making excuses. You have to control your anger and your disappointment that you have been misunderstood. To add insult to injury, the person who assumes or jumps to conclusions becomes offended when they are wrong. They resist your interpretation and doubt your explanation. Since they cannot accept that they may be wrong, they never say that they are sorry. While not officially listed as a mental disorder those involved with jumpers definitely think it is part of a mental disorder or personality disorder to say the least. It can’t be cured and it is difficult to endure for everyone but the offender. They never seem to learn from their mistakes. Eventually, it will alienate you. Patricia Frank is a Licensed Psychotherapist. She can be reached at 305-788-4864, 212-308-0309.

Reasons to give thanks! BY REV. WILL KEYSER Thanksgiving Day is observed as a legal holiday in the United States and we should be thankful for that. However, many people observe it as a legal holiday failing to meet the requirements of the definition of Thanksgiving Day: “A Day appointed for giving thanks for divine goodness.” (Merriam Webster Dictionary) Multitudes are “thankful” only for the day off from work and an opportunity to over-indulge in food and drink. Little or no attention is focused on giving thanks for divine goodness by direction our heart-felt acknowledgement to God for all the blessings that have come directly from God. The Psalmist, David, recorded some necessary duties in his “thanksgiving day” speech on the occasion of bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. He said, “The Lord has blessed the house of ObedEdom and all that belongs to him on account of the Ark of God. So they brought the Ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent David had pitched for it and after offering sacrifices to the Lord, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord
of hosts.” (II Samuel 6:12-18) The guidelines David presented again in Psalm 105 regarding how and why we are to give our thanks to God are direct and to the point. Give thanks to God we are making known His deeds among His people; as we give thanks we are to sing praise to God and speak well of all His wonders done on our behalf; we are to give God all the glory that is due His holy name; our thanks must come from a heart that is content with His provision for us; in the course of our thanksgiving we must look to the Lord and His strength which provides for our satisfaction and we are to do that continually, not only once a year. We must always remember the awesome things He has done for us; His miracles and the declarations He has made with all of His authority. In light of all the innumerable and immeasurable blessings God has poured out on us it is not only a necessary duty, but a necessary condition that must prevail if further blessings is to occur. My wife, Claudia, and I trust that this Thanksgiving Day was filled with praise to Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides everything we need as we Trust in Him. Rev. Keyser is pastor of the Church of Aventura 305-931-4823.

Keep exercising during holiday ‘crunch time’ BY BARI AUERBACH While the busy holiday season may make it more challenging to make time to get to the gym – there’s no excuse for taking a holiday from exercising – especially when there are easy ways to fit fitness into your day at home and even at work. Exercises you can do without having to go to a gym include: Squats - The squat is performed by bending the legs at the knees and hips, lowering the torso between the legs, and then reversing direction to stand up straight again. Pretend like you are sitting back into a chair. Lower your hips all the way down, reverse direction, and come back up. The torso remains relatively upright throughout the movement. Lunges - To perform a lunge: Take a slightly larger than normal step forward. Keeping your front knee over your foot drop down so the back knee is one inch from the floor. (do not let the front knee go past the toes as can cause pain) Push off your front leg to return to the start Repeat with your other leg. Pushups - while lying horizontal face down, raise and lower your body using the arms. Keep your body straight the entire time. If you cannot do “regular” pushups,
modify by placing your knees on the ground. Crunches - Lie on your back with both hands behind your head and raise your upper body. Repeat this move for 15-20 times. Leg Exercises – These can be done by lying down on your side and lifting each leg repeatedly for 15-20 times. You can also stand and hold on to the back of a chair and lift your legs backward repeatedly. A r m Exercises –For arm exercises, you can use an exercise band. Place both feet on one

end of the band, hold the other ends with each hand and then repeatedly raise and lower the band (in an up and down motion for 10-15 minutes). And for a great tricep workout, you can do dips using the seat of a sturdy chair. STAIR CLIMBING: To burn fat and build some muscle, try getting out two floors below your own floor and walking up two flights -and next time try three flights of stairs. Homework - If you’re working at home and sitting in front of your computer most of the time, try to press down on your toes in an up and down motion frequently. This activity will help to keep the blood circulation flowing in your legs.
Take a Walk – Walking can increase energy levels, fitness and contribute to fat loss. If you’re very new to exercising again, start by just going for a five to ten minute walk and then gradually keep increasing the time. You Should be Dancing! Put on a music CD and dance for about 20-30 minutes. This is a great cardiovascular workout. You can also incorporate push-ups, sit-ups and jumping rope into your daily exercise routine. These exercises are just a few of many that can firm, tone and keep you active during the holiday season and give you a jump start on fitness New Year’s resolutions so if you do decide to join a gym – you’ll look great before you even sign up!
