Since then, something to really celebrate is the city’s tax rate has remained the lowest in Miami-Dade County. “Fifteen years of excellence can be attributed to the efforts of all those who fought to make Aventura a city, the vision of elected officials and a desire to be the best,” said Aventura City Manager Eric M. Soroka. “We have a dedicated and progressive City Commission committed to progress and ensuring Aventura con-
tinues to be the City of Excellence.”

Second holiday shopping boutique to benefit Dr. Michael Krop Senior High School BY LYNN CARROLL
Circle November 9th on your calendar and make plans to do some shopping between 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Dr. Michael Krop Senior High School Gymnasium, on the main campus at 1410 County Line Road. That’s when the “Shop for Krop” benefit fundraiser for the Krop High School will be held. The special holiday happening is organized by the Parent Teacher Student Association at Krop and is now in its second year, says Event Co-chair Alison Mars, membership chair for Krop PTSA. “Our goal,” she says, “is to make it a very special and memorable
shopping extravaganza for those who attend. We want people to look forward to it every year.” She estimates that between 20 and 25 vendors will take part and says the goods will include jewelry, housewares, clothing, bathing suits, workoutwear, handbags and sports memorabilia. It’s also an opportunity to convert unwanted jewelry into cash. A jeweler will be on hand from 10 a.m. - noon and 4-6 p.m. to buy gold, silver and platinum articles on the spot, says Event Co-chair Ruth Vernick, vice president of fundraising for PTSA Krop. Mars says income from the benefit – each vendor contributes a por-
tion of its proceeds ––will help underwrite equipment costs and department grants. “The money,” she says, “is used for many different things. It could be for bussing students to competitions, equipment so that the students can beautify the school or smart boards for classrooms. Most of the time it’s been used for classroom materials.” Some of the funds will also go towards senior scholarships, Mars says; about 25 were awarded with proceeds from last year’s fundraising events. • • • • • Mel’s Story • • • • • Mel Goldman, born in New York, came to Florida in the early 70’s and took over the Bagel Bar in North Miami Beach in 1972. It wasn’t long before the Bagel Bar became a household name, but people would refer to it as “Mel’s place”. People would say “Meet you at Mel’s”. The secret? Of course it was the homemade bagels served hot on paper plates, but perhaps, more so, it was the ‘family’ that Mel had built. Even players from the Miami HEAT , after practicing at the Michael-Ann Russell JCC, would go to “Mel’s” place to re-fuel. And—no surprise—even comedian Jackie Mason could be found there. In those days, when kids skipped school, truant officers knew where to find them….at the Bagel Bar…..it was just that warm, comfortable part of their lives that the kids were seeking. Mel’s specialty was the whitefish salad…and on weekends, lines would form around the corner, waiting patiently for their turn to savor the items that made Bagel Bar famous. For 27 years, Bagel Bar was a staple of the community… employing hundreds of people along the way. Mel had a soft spot in his heart for those less fortunate, and not only would employ them, but he invited them to live in his home when they didn’t have a place to stay. Time moved all too quickly….and by the summer of 2007, Mel and Jo Ann had retired and were vacationing in the mountains of North Carolina. Jo Ann noticed that Mel was dragging his foot, gaining weight, becoming more and more agitated, but he checked out fine with the doctor. In December, 2007, Mel woke up with black and blue marks across his face. A brain scan followed and the diagnosis was menengioma, usually
benign, but there were many years of problems leading up to the incident which, among other problems, created nerve damage in the face. He spent five months in a Neuroscience ICU, not walking or talking, and were told that “this is the best he’s going to be”. In 2010, Dr. Charles Shenker referred Mel to Dr. Marie DiCowden, Director of the Biscayne Institutes of Health and Living located in Aventura. That was the day that hope sprang anew for the Goldmans. The Biscayne Institutes took Mel’s Medicare coverage, and began treatment as an outpatient. Dr. DiCowden’s philosphy is “Our bottom line is treating the person who has the disease, not treating the disease the person has.” Dr. DiCowden oversaw Mel’s treatments….cognitive, psychological and more. “My husband’s personality is starting to come back….he can hold a brief conversation, he reads and writes a little and can now walk with a walker,” said Jo Ann. “He loves the camaraderie at the Biscayne Institutes and he looks forward to going there every week. I would have traveled the world to find a place that could help Mel….but the miracle was that I found it right here in Aventura! And now, I want to make people aware of this special place…and its need for funding. We never know when we will be placed in the position of making life and death decisions for a loved one, and I want to let the world know that through the incredible work done by Dr. DiCowden and the Biscayne Institutes, Mel was given the gift of life.”

uncertain-term position,” Huffaker says. “We work with any size business, from small firms with only two or three people who have need of a temp to get through a project or a season to large companies with hundreds of employees. We're equally ready to help with shortterm situations or specific, more esoteric positions.” What a firm does is also not an issue, Huffaker adds.
“We are generalists,” he says. “About half of what we do is office services and about 30% is light industrial.” He says Express Employment frequently provides evaluation hires, in which both the employer and job candidate can size up their compatibility before committing to a more permanent arrangement. The company also provides HR services, from training and development to audits and the creation of employee handbooks and affirmative action plans. ‘Founders-Keepers’
Bari Auerbach LIFE IN THE CITY Aventura’s 15th annual Founders Day celebration is Nov. 7 – but if you were one of the city’s original “founders,” maybe you would have voted to make the best even better by adding community amenities like these… Six Flags at Founders Park: Wouldn’t it be great if there was a giant rollercoaster right in the middle of Founders Park? If ever there was a way to have more fun coasting through life’s “ups and downs” - this would be the most amusing coping mechanism! Aventura Mall Airport: The mall is already such a great tourist attraction for the city just imagine if developers had planned to incorporate an airport too…then, even more international visitors could land in front of Bloomie’s and maybe even trade some of their frequent flyer miles for special savings at all the mall stores!
Organic Market on the Circle: Everyone exercising around the circle on Country Club Drive is really into fitness – so an organic market would be the perfect addition...While biking, rollerblading, running or pushing baby strollers, you could just reach over and grab your favorite fruits and vegetables compliments of Aventura – the healthy and wealthy city! Detailing on Biscayne: If the city opened car detailing centers all along Biscayne Boulevard – just think how much revenue could be generated! Motorists stuck in traffic could have their cars washed and waxed…and if a train comes, there would even be time to bang out dents and dings too! Gym at Government Center: To increase attendance at Aventura City Commission meetings, it would be a great to have a gym inside Commission chambers – so while getting in a workout, you could watch the proceedings and maybe even exercise your right to express your opinions. Then again, Aventura Founders helped created such a well-run city, it’s nice not having to even lift a finger to enjoy all the great community amenities that are definitely “Founderskeepers!”

Vi Aventura has been built on the philosophy that older adults enjoy life more when being active.” What being active means varies from person to person, says Marjorie Aloni, Vi Aventura’s community relations manager. “For older adults,” she says, “staying active can mean reading the newspaper, tweeting a friend, walking to the grocery store or joining a group of volunteers picking up litter.
With our program, there is a way for everyone to choose activities that are appealing to their personal interests. The great side benefit is that staying active through the years makes life enjoyable.” Vi Aventura’s part in the national campaign included hosting an Active Aging Reception and Happy Hour, Aloni says. That was followed by a week of activities that included art classes, choral groups, water aerobics, exercise classes and health-related lectures—to name just a few of the activities residents could choose from. BB&T, which is consistently recognized nationally for its service excellence, recently hosted an Aventura Marketing Council Business Development Committee meeting featuring Phillip Speake, Chair of Florida Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Speake’s message focused on reaching out to businesses to help unemployed Guard and Reserve veterans find jobs when they return home from tours of duty. City of Aventura planning director Joanne Carr was also invited to speak about progressive municipal initiatives including the opening of the new Aventura Arts & Cultural Center; reconstruction of the city’s public library branch; creation of a “green local government”; and enhanced public safety as statistics show there have
been fewer collisions since red light cameras were installed at five corners chosen by the Aventura Police Department. On behalf of BB&T Aventura branch leaders including Maxine Hanchard-Foote and J.C. Rivera, Business Development Committee Chair Peter L. Fishel, CPA welcomed AMC members gathered at BB&T on 192nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard. In keeping with the Aventura motto, “City of Excellence,” thanks to the comments and feedback of BB&T clients, the bank has received Excellence Awards in 20 of 20 national categories and five regional in a survey conducted by Greenwich Associates, a leading global financial services research and consulting firm. BB&T’s sweep of the 2009 Middle Market and Small Business Banking categories represents the most excellence citations in the award’s history.
Building on a tradition of excellence in community banking that stretches back to 1872, BB&T continues to offer clients a complete range of financial services including banking, lending, insurance, trust, and wealth management solutions. Turning to the topic of employment solutions for Guard and Reserve veterans, Speake emphasized, “The 38,000 Guard and Reserve members of Florida need your help. They’re coming back from war zones and 30 to 40 percent don’t have jobs. “Business leaders can now visit our website floridaesgr.com and register their company to be a supporter, pledging to give preferential hiring to returning National Guard and Reserve veterans. Our website also allows service members to register and provide their resumes. I’m convinced with the energy and cooperation I’ve seen around the state, we’re going to
succeed with this jobs program – setting an example for the rest of the country.” To spread the word and achieve the goal of getting at least 10,000 employers to register, Speake noted he has been addressing many different civic groups as well as the Florida League of Cities. SENIOR LIVING If you have begun conversations with your parents about making plans for their health or additional future careCongratulations! You’ve taken a positive step towards making everyone’s life a lot easier. If you haven’t- this may motivate you to, at least ….begin. Chances are that you know or are related to someone who is caring for an older parent, sibling or loved one. Chances are very good that there are many concerns with their health, visits to the doctor, etc. Whether you are local and your loved one is right in the neighborhood, or, if you live far away- it is challenging to help our elders with current health care issues. For starters, find out who the players are. Who is the primary care physician? Are there any specialists? Who is the Dentist, etc? Record the names and all of the contact information. What medications is your loved one taking, if any. Where do they fill their prescriptions? What type of health insurance do they have? Do they
have Long Term Care Insurance? Take a copy of the insurance ID cards and any policies. Write all the information down, maybe in a 3 ring binder, or for those really organized types- a file box. While you’re doing this, it also makes sense to physically look at any medications that may be in their home. Discard any unused or outdated prescriptions (and, for that matter) all outdated over the counter stuff too. This generation is very frugal and they hate to throw things out. I recently talked with someone who’s Mother had saved an outdated heart prescription from her deceased husband. She had a habit of taking it if she was feeling tired. Yes, nitro will really help you feel energized… wow! Don’t try to do this all at once. You will have to set aside time to bring up the topic and to accomplish the tasks. Planning, then having these conversations and practical work times will help you and your loved ones be prepared for almost anything and, who knows? You might just feel better yourself.

Mortgages & foreclosures BY MARK J. LYNN, PA Just when we thought it was safe to get interested in real estate again, another mortgage crisis threatens to throw the country, and South Florida, back into uncertainty. In this column I will try to provide a very brief explanation of what the heck is going on. As most of us know now, hundreds of thousands of questionable mortgage loans were taken out by borrowers up until the end of 2008. Those loans were sold by the original lenders to other investors, and those investors chopped the loans up and sold the pieces to investors all over the world. Most of those loans went bad, resulting in hundreds of thousands of homes going into foreclosure. The courts and the banks were suddenly flooded with huge foreclosure case loads. In order to deal with this influx of cases, the courts, the banks and their attorneys had to hire additional personnel (yes, there is one corner of the marketplace where business is booming) and implement special procedures to move the cases through as quickly as possible. Generally speaking, two tests must be passed for a bank to get a foreclosure judgment and repossess the property: first, the bank must prove that it has the right to fore-
close on the property, and second, the bank must prove that the borrower owes under the mortgage loan and how much is owed. Regarding the first test, the individuals who own the loan are often not the ones foreclosing – instead, servicing companies, whose job is only to collect loan payments, have commenced the foreclosures themselves. There is a serious question as to who has the right to bring a foreclosure lawsuit on behalf of investors. Regarding the second test, there are widespread claims that banks have hired alleged “robo-signers” to sign hundreds, or thousands, of affidavits each day stating the amount owed to the bank for each bad mortgage. The bank’s attorneys, and the courts, rely on those affidavits as being truthful and accurate statements of the status of the mortgage. However, given the huge number of documents moving across these officers’ desks every day, it is hard to believe that they have the faintest clue whether the facts stated in the affidavits are correct. Fixing these problems will be a serious challenge. Unfortunately, untangling the damage that has already been done could take a lot of time and resources that are in short supply. Mark Lynn is an attorney specializing in real estate and corporate transactions. This article is not intended to render legal advice, and readers are encouraged to retain an attorney to address their specific issues.

The Grill on the Alley hosts ‘gift of good taste’ AYP networker BY BARI AUERBACH
When The Grill on the Alley at Aventura Mall hosted a networking luncheon for Aventura Young Professionals, 45-andunder guests learned why this holiday season, everyone will want to forego fruit cakes and give a gift in good taste: The Grill gift cards. And now, thanks to a special “bonus gift” from The Grill, if you give $100, you can receive a Twenty Dollar promotional card. AYP chair Jeff Levinson of Sabadell United Bank joined by The Grill’s general manager Jeff Martin welcomed a great turnout of business and community leaders invited to enjoy a preview of holiday cheer at The Grill – renowned for “famously American” cuisine featuring the finest in prime steaks, chops and fresh seafood as well as classic cocktails. With visions of entrees such as Prime New York Steak, Pan-Seared Atlantic Salmon and Angel Hair Pasta Pomodoro dancing in their heads, entrepreneurs from Shefoar Development, Northern Trust, the Westin Diplomat Resort, Williams Island POA, State Farm and Miami-Dade College North Campus agreed The Grill’s lunch, dinner, catering and take-out menus combined with amenities such as a private dining room and cocktail lounge provide no reason to look any further than The Grill for any every day or special dining occasion. Making a wish list for more culinary delights, leaders from Kent Security, Florida Marlins, Coconut Grove Bank, Total Bank, Fabian Realty, Circle of Lifesaving, Cool AM Dance and ASAP Services looked forward to trying more of The Grill’s signature dishes including the Pepper Bacon Burger, Grilled Skirt Steak Salad, Chicken Quesadilla, Jumbo Lump Crab Cake and Mahi Mahi Almondine. Executives from Gerstle, Rosen & Goldenberg, CPA’s, TruMedical, the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort,
Yolanda Bailey, Filene’s Basement; Jason Katz, Circle of Lifesaving, Life Fitness; Tammy Wagner, Velocity Processing
Spirituality for Kids, the Office of Dr. Frederick Knoll and the Office of Dr. Richard Galitz commended The Grill for creating such a festive “meet and greet” while enjoying prime meats such as Filet Mignon, Charbroiled Rib Eye Steak, Prime New York Pepper Steak and Double Cut Colorado Lamb Chops. Instead of “decking the halls” at offices, colleagues from Merrill Lynch, Senior Helpers, Seo4anyone.com, Fidelity Investments, RBC Bank, Half Price Locksmith and FastCare also concurred The Grill is the perfect place for meetings, conferences and special occasions that can be planned by an expert Banquet coordinator, who can suggest the best wine and food pairings - plus now, “The Grill can come to you” catering services are making a lot of hungry elves in the North Pole very happy! Deciding to share a limo or a sleigh for holiday get-togethers at The Grill, friends from Stern Bloom Media, Velocity Printing, EWM Realty, Filene’s Basement and Allies for Ahava proffered yet another relaxing reason for coming back to The Grill: Happy Hours 4 - 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday when hand-crafted cocktails meet delicious “Chef Bites.” Before the luncheon was over, everyone concurred “Quality Without Compromise” is the main reason for The Grill on the Alley’s great success. And lucky attorney Mark Lynn was thrilled to win a $50 gift card – a special perk that’s just one of many “gifted” reasons to belong to the Aventura Marketing Council’s Aventura Young Professionals Committee.

EAT THIS... DRINK THAT From the time I was 14 until about 34 years old, I was a vegetarian. It had nothing to do with animal cruelty or political views…simply a bad experience with a piece of veal. For 20 years I progressed backwards, starting with eating nothing with a face, going macrobiotic, Vegan, then lightening up a bit, going ova-lacto (eggs-milk), to pescatarian (eating fish) to eventually, tasting and ultimately, eating beef (I still will not touch veal). I believe in “everything in moderation”, but on the whole, things that are healthful just make you feel better. Brain food. The point – if the food is fresh and delicious, it can be as satisfying as French fries and a burger…only better for you. So, I have always loved salads, tofu, seitan…things most people turn their nose up to. I was veg before it was cool. And now, there are so many healthful options to choose from whether you are cooking or going out to eat. Miami Juice has moved to a big space in Sunny Isles. It was jam packed when I first went. I have to say, it is lovely. It has a little market, indoor and outdoor seating. I believe it could be one of the best “light, health-oriented fare” in all of South Florida. The upside: Great salads (and like with all of the options and add-ons, maybe 3 dozen or more to choose from, baked squash specials, lovely hummus, tuna, tofu sandwiches and more. The potions are large enough to share. The downside: The help is a little bit rude. You have to luck out and get the good staff. Also – scouting seats on a Saturday afternoon is scary. Send someone ahead and then park. Juice and Java is a staple. The Aventura space has been there serving healthy and delicious cuisine for years. I think this is the original. The salads have a
different quality than the one’s at Miami juice. Almost more “earthy crunchy”. They serve great brown rice plus…dishes , which are always yummy when you want something warm. Like Miami Juice, it serves smoothies and freshly brewed teas – really nice for a “girl’s afternoon.” The Big Squeeze on West Dixie Highway in North Miami Beach is a bit more “rustic” in its approach. It looks like a converted trailer that has stools (open air) in the front. Then walk inside and find a maze of little indoor-outdoor seating. They serve wraps, squeeze fresh juice and make smoothies, and offer grille hot dishes. Really delish. I believe you can order French fries there, which is unheard of in the other spaces, but hey, a fry or two won’t kill you – after all, everything in moderation. On a different note, the Blue Marlin Fish House in North Miami doesn’t even own a fryer. It smokes it’s fish (one of the only places in South Florida that does it), makes lobster burgers, and has salads that are delish! They are also right on the Oleta River (next to the state park) so if you are looking for a bit of romance, take your healthy food and eat by the pier! Or in a Mangrove. It’s low key and lovely. The staff is all about “being fit” so you can even have your “kayaking and biking” questions answered while nibbling on tasty, healthy fare. If you are staying in and cooking, try to create fun and interesting salads. Add beans, chick peas, corn, beets…anything that’ll take you away from the same old. This way you won’t get bored. Need carbs? It’s okay. You can have pita, brown breads, or whole grain breads – simply head to Whole Foods, Fresh Market, or even Publix. Farmers markets (I love the Yellow Green Market in Hollywood) are key. Embrace the healthy. It can be as satisfying as pizza!

2011 Chevy Silverado heavy-duty trucks ready for any job Ron Beasley AUTOMOTIVE EDITOR
LET’S TALK CARS The Chevy Silverado lineup of heavyduty pickup trucks is really quite impressive. Redesigned for 2011, Silverado now offers 10 2500HD models and eight singleand dual-rear-wheel 3500HD models, including a new 3500HD Crew Cab with a 6.5-foot cargo box. Three trim levels are offered — WT, LT and LTZ — and with popular features such as the EZ Lift tailgate and rearview camera system. All models have greater capability, improved ride and handling, and a greater feeling of driver control. Model highlights include: • Increased towing capability (21,700 pounds) and payload (6,335 pounds) supported by all-new fully-boxed, highstrength-steel frames and strong suspensions for maximum capability and exceptional ride characteristics. • New 6.60 liter Duramax diesel that delivers up to 11 percent better highway
fuel economy and up to 63 percent lower emissions, along with B20 biodiesel capability and quicker acceleration. • Larger gas tank and fuel economy improvements that allow up to 680 miles between fillups with the Duramax turbo diesel. • All-new “smart” exhaust brake feature that provides greater control on grades and reduced brake pad wear. • An array of control features, including trailer sway control, integrated trailer brake control, hill start assist, automatic grade braking, intelligent brake assist and larger brakes. • Technology that includes available mobile WiFi, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, XM Satellite Radio, OnStar and navigation. The bending and beaming stiffness of the frames has been increased substantially, with the fully boxed sections enhancing torsional stiffness. Larger engine and transmission mounts coupled with a 125 percent stiffer front frame structure provide greater vibration control, while hydraulic body mounts
are incorporated under the cab section on extended and crew cab models for a more isolated feel inside. The base price on our 2011 Silverado 3500 Crew Cab LTZ was $44,945. You may have questions about property tax notice Al Sunshine CBS MONEY WATCH It’s a summer ritual for property owners statewide — namely, those proposed tax notices we get in the mail at the end of August. Hundreds of thousands of South Florida home and condo owners probably have a lot of questions about the property tax notices we just received. It turns out that about 45-55 percent of property owners who appealed their assessments with their local property appraiser or Property Value Adjustment boards actually won their cases. And indeed, this year’s tax notices may have most homeowners scratching their heads and wondering what’s going on. So what’s the problem? Property taxes for hundreds of thousands of homeowners around South Florida are rising still although home values are dropping. That’s because of limited tax exemptions and increasing millage rates set by financially strapped local governments. If your home was covered by the “Save Our Homes Amendment and the socalled Homestead Exemption, it may allow the tax appraiser to raise your tax bill by about 2.7 percent. It’s meant to level out all those years it limited your liability while the housing market grew
and property values skyrocketed. So this year, it is more important than ever to double check your property tax bill and look for any possible mistakes. First, make sure the tax notice has the correct address. Next, check the square footage to make sure you are not paying for a bigger home than you have. Look for all the exemptions listed on the notice to make sure you are getting all the tax credits to which you are entitled. Double check what comparable properties are selling for in your neighborhood to make sure your home is not being overvalued. There also is something else new this year. By state law, if your home is being repaired for Chinese drywall problems, let your property appraiser’s office know about it. You may not be responsible for any taxes on your home or condo — just the value of the un-improved property itself. Also, take note: Both Miami-Dade and Broward tax appraiser offices recommend against paying any money up-front to anyone promising to lower your tax bill. They say in most cases, you can do it all yourself. Remember: The deadline to file an automatic appeal is Sept. 20. If you miss the deadline, you may not be able to qualify to file an appeal this year and may end up with a bigger tax bill than you should. Watch Al Sunshine’s “CBS Money Watch Monday-Friday beginning at noon.

Diet tricks for treats and snacks BY BARI AUERBACH If you indulged in a lot of Halloween candy and trying to zip up your skinny jeans has gotten “really scaryâ€? here are some diet tricks for treats and snacks you can enjoy absolutely guilt-free: Protein Pudding The trick to making a diet friendly pudding treat with greater nutritional value is to use a fat free/sugar free instant pudding mix (six serving size) and instead of milk, add one cup of water blended with one scoop of your favorite protein powder. For an added treat, top with sugar free Smucker’s strawberry jam. Biggest Dessert and Snack ‘Winners’ In “The Biggest Loser Dessert Cookbook,â€? author/Chef Devin Alexander collaborates with The Biggest Loser experts and cast to feature great low-cal recipes for desserts and snacks including Pumpkin Pie Bites. The trick to making this treat with less than 100 calories per serving is to replace fattening ingredients with more wholesome choices such as all-natural, whole-grain, high-fiber, low-sugar cereal, whole-wheat pastry flour, agave nector, and egg whites. Another one of Alexander’s “biggest dessert winnersâ€? called Cone-Olis looks like vanilla ice cream cones topped with chocolate chips but the trick to making this treat is using all-natural, low-fat ricotta cheese, 70% cocoa mini dark chocolate chunks and naturally-sweetened, wheat sugar cones. For a great snack or appetizer, Alexander also has a great recipe for Honey Drizzled Pear Fan with Bleu Cheese. The trick to making this treat waistline friendly is using pears, crumbled reduced-fat bleu cheese and a little bit of honey. ‘Slim and Scrumptious’ On a recent episode of Inside Edition, a woman who looked great in her bikini was drinking a chocolate milkshake‌so how does she stay so slim while indulging in such a scrumptious treat? The trick to finding out is getting the cookbook “Slim and
Scrumptious by nutritionist Joy Bauer featuring more than 75 recipes for delicious, healthy meals, desserts and snacks. According to Bauer, “You can absolutely eat rich, decadent, delicious over the top food and still be in the best shape of your life. Bauer also says you can even indulge in “decadent desserts without sabotaging your diet. Her version of a chocolate milkshake is made with fat free evaporated milk and reduced fat whipped cream – adding up to only 150 calories. Bauer’s “scrumptious cookies also have a secret ingredient. “I trim an enormous amount of calories by using natural unsweetened applesauce, she says. Bauer also includes fun snacks, desserts, and appetizers that will keep you satisfied all day long, such as Cinnamon Cheesecake Fondue, Frozen Hot Chocolate, and Banana Pecan Bread. For tricks to making healthy treats to satisfy your sweet tooth without breaking your calorie budget, great holiday gifts for you and your friends are “The Biggest Loser Dessert Cookbook and “Slim and Scrumptious available wherever books are sold or online at amazon.com.
