N
oted Professor Alan Dershowitz recently recognized eight synagogue families and presented them with the distinguished Guardian of Israel award for their outstanding leadership, commitment and dedication to the synagogue, the community and the State of Israel. With over 1,500 people in the audience, recognition was given to Doris Blass, Jeannette and Joseph Braun, Jessica Fauer, David Glazer, Jeffrey Newman, Brian Oberlender, Marcy and Dr. Barry Resnik and Jason Rubin. Following the service, the synagogue hosted a private luncheon
for the honorees, where Professor Dershowitz praised the honorees by speaking about the importance of being Guardians of Israel who are blessed with the understanding of the importance of centrality of Israel in Jewish life. Dr. Malcolm Dorman and Alix and Jorge Wolf were presented with the Tree of Life award, for their outstanding contributions to the State of Israel Bonds and the synagogue. Prof. Dershowitz is a global advocate for many critical causes but perhaps best known for his staunch defense of Israel in multiple forums around the world. Amb. Foreign Affairs and himself a powerful, persuasive voice of reason in an often- cacophonous international arena of Israel bashing and delegitimization. The opportunity to hear either is a worthwhile education in the challenges ahead and the constructive work being done to ensure that Israel is protected in an increasingly hostile environment. Both Amb. Ayalon and Prof. Dershowitz have addressed this audience before, with Prof. Dershowitz appearing annually since he inaugurated the congregation’s presti-
gious Guardian of Israel Award in 1993. Calling Amb. Ayalon “Israel’s MVP (most valuable player)” and reminding everyone of his exceptional series of YouTube advocacy vignettes, Prof. Dershowitz asked what more the American Jewish community can do to help Israel in this time of need. Along with asking Prof. Dershowitz why he declined the Prime Minister’s offer to serve as Israel’s ambassador to the United

From Carefree to Caregiver
Patricia C. Frank FRANKLY SPEAKING It can happen in an instant or it may have been coming for a while. The results are the same. Circumstances change and your life is altered forever. One minute you are a carefree spirit and the next you are a caregiver. You, literally, go from a person with manageable responsibilities to a person with overwhelming responsibilities. Caregivers are thrust into a role they are often unprepared for. They are also not prepared for the intensity of feelings and emotions they suddenly experience. They are surprised at how overextended and drained they feel. They are caught off guard by the number of feelings and emotions they encounter such as; guilt, anger, sadness, loneliness, depression, frustration, resentment, discouragement and fear. They also experience a great deal of anxiety about the future and the escalation of the individual’s decline. It is normal to fear how difficult or impossible it may be when the person deteriorates even more and the burdens
increase, especially, if they feel that they are not coping well with situation as it is. Caregivers suffer from compassion fatigue and emotional exhaustion. Everyone has heard stories about the caregiver being the one to die first. It is not that rare. How are you going to cope and survive the situation and ordeal? If you are a caregiver you will need to follow a list of Do’s and Don’ts to survive. Caregiver Do’s; rest, trust, let go, do your best, look for the irony or humor in the situation. Caregiver Don’ts; don’t be ashamed of your feelings, don’t be a perfectionist, choose wisely, don’t become overwhelmed, don’t judge yourself, don’t criticize yourself, don’t take anything personally, don’t give up. Here are some Caregiver Survival Tips; ask for help, develop a support system, develop time management skills, set boundaries, take time for yourself, deal with emotions or feelings, practice relaxation techniques, forgive the patient, forgive yourself, forgive God or the Universe. Talk to someone. Sympathy and understanding make a difference. Things will get better. Patricia Frank is a Licensed Psychotherapist. She can be reached at 305-788-4864, 212-308-0309.

Nations, Amb. Ayalon reflected on Israel’s consistent commitment to peace and desperate hope that the Palestinians evolve from gainsayers to partners. Both were equally firm on the “existential threat posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions” and Prof. Dershowitz reminded the audience that it comprised over 1,000 eligible voters in a critical swing state. “Therefore, in this election year, it is absolutely imperative that you tell any candidate from either party that your support is based in no small measure contingent upon the strong US-Israel relationship in general and America’s determination to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear capability in particular.”

‘Healthy Competition’
Bari Auerbach LIFE IN THE CITY For anyone who wants to be in great shape, Aventura is the perfect place to find a wide variety of fitness opportunities – but it’s hard to exercise your right to choose where to workout or get a nutritious meal considering all the “healthy competition”… Upscale or Down & Dirty? With so many gyms and other fitness choices around town, figuring out where to go may boil down to deciding whether you want to be pampered by spa attendants handing you towels; tortured by no-mercy military trainers; knocked out by a boxing coach; or kicked in the teeth by a karate master in cahoots with an Aventura dentist. Proteins or Carbs? There are a lot of competing bagel places to choose from – so here’s how you can decide where to go on Sundays. Research which one serves the best smoked salmon - since eating
more proteins with Omega 3s and cutting back on carbs can help you look more like a carrot stick – and less like a bagel! Walk or Run? Before going to any of the many competing stores selling athletic shoes, make sure you wait at least one hour after your pedicure – then run, don’t walk to the store with the smartest buyer who gets that it makes no sense to stock so many of the smallest and largest sizes and never enough of the most common ones. Go – or not Go Organic? Regular supermarkets, gourmet markets, organic markets…where is shopping really a pleasure? Anyplace where you can still afford to fill your cart with healthy food – after you’ve used virtually all of your paycheck on gas! Here or There? All around the world, there are economic development agencies, tourism and marketing councils competing to attract residents and visitors. But when it comes to choosing the ideal place to live, work and play, consider this: Only Aventura has the famous circle and one of the best kept secrets: A fitness center at the Community Recreation Center where you never have to compete with too many other members to get on your favorite machine!

The Meat In The Sandwich BY FAITH BANDKLAYDER With two kids in college and two parents starting to need me to check in on them every day, I feel like the meat in the sandwich. The days whiz by, and I barely have time for myself, since I work at a full-time job, as well. When the kids went off to school, I thought that some of my time would be freed up for breathing room. Before I could turn around, mom took a fall and broke her hip. Then I had to take dad’s car keys away, because he couldn’t find his way back to the house one day, and now I have to take him to see mom at the rehab center every day. That’s only the beginning, because now I have what has essentially become a second full-time job; shopping, cooking and cleaning for mom and dad, as well as overseeing their doctor’s appointments, medications and bill payments. My husband is a saint, just standing by supporting me, but we have become two ships that pass in the night. I look in the mirror every day and just feel like the meat in the sandwich. Then one day, while I was at dad’s doctor, I started reading about senior living
communities and how they can take the burden of micromanaging day-to-day care off the shoulders of the adult kids. Hmmm…maybe there is something to that? What if mom and dad moved to a community where they could have their meals prepared, their laundry done for them, housekeeping, transportation to shopping and the doctor, help with their medications and even a social life? Life has gotten so lonely for them at home now that many of their friends have passed away. Suddenly, I feel such a sense of relief that there may be a solution other than my giving up my personal life to oversee my parents’ routine. It may be hard for them at first, but then we could have quality time together when I visit and I could look forward to my time with them, rather than feeling anxious that I have to squeeze their care into an already burdened schedule. I feel so good now and I can’t wait to talk with mom and dad…I know they’ll understand when I explain how hard it has become while being crammed inside the sandwich! She can be contacted for tours of the property at 305-935-1801, extension 60.

RayPrinciotta ON REAL ESTATE Today I’m writing about the millions of homeowners who are underwater on their homes and ARE paying their mortgage. This is one of the toughest spots an owner can find himself in and many of you are facing this dilemma every day. The owner profile is essentially the same all across South Florida: They purchased the home they wanted in the neighborhood of their choice. They like the area, are happy with the schools, and enjoy the amenities. Essentially, they made the right choice. But the real estate market crash has taken it’s toll and now the homeowner owes the bank more than the current market value. The owner may have checked out loan modification programs, but earns too much to qualify. The option of a strategic default will significantly effect their credit score. So housebound suddenly means economically bound to your house. However, the situation not as cut and dried as it
March 7 - 13, 2012
New Definition: HOUSEBOUND CAN MEAN ECONOMICALLY BOUND TO YOUR HOUSE
sounds. There are some options to help turn this Lemon Into Lemonade. It’s time to focus on “What Can Be instead of What it is”. There are simple upgrades and improvements that can make a difference in your quality of life while you wait for the real estate market to right itself. It’s easy to focus on the negatives of being underwater, but take a fresh look at your situation. You liked the home enough to buy it and you paid a price you could afford. It’s time to get some of that magic back. Spend time on the inexpensive things that make the biggest difference. Wash the exterior walls and touch up any stained areas. Paint the wood trim -- eaves, facia boards, doors, shutters. Clean, paint, or add new hardware like a mailbox or house numbers.. These can make a huge visual difference in the look and feel of your home. There are even some low cost modifications you can do to kitchens and baths like resurfacing your cabinets which also add value to the home in case, in the future you decide to sell. Energy efficiency is the good way to lower expenses. Utility bills are constantly
increasing so a careful review of your monthly bills is in order. It might make sense to invest in a tankless water heater rather than maintaining many gallons of water at high temperatures. High efficiency appliances bring savings. Air-conditioning systems, a major necessity in our Florida weather, may be researched for modifications or replacement that can save dollars. Most utility companies offer information on ways to save energy. Call for their booklets. Roofing is an important factor in energy efficiency. Cold and heat are automatically transmitted into the atmosphere but the amount of transmission can be easily controlled or modified. For example, a reader wrote in that he had decided to replace his roof to increase energy efficiency. He installed 1 ½ inch insulation board as part of the renovation and his electric bill immediately dropped approximately $175 per month. In addition to enjoying the savings he feels like a good citizen helping maintain our planet. All indicators point to a long, retracted recovery in the housing market but certain areas are starting to see a modest uptick in
prices. So, if you are housebound and the only thing that’s not right about your property is the debt to value ratio, then make your place more comfortable for the shortmidterm, alleviating the want or need to move. As long as you can afford the payments, enjoy your home.

Is the Customer Always Right? Shari Lynn Rothstein-Kramer
EAT THIS... DRINK THAT I grew up hearing, “The customer is always right.” Be it clothing stores, grocery stores, at a pharmacy, or in restaurants, it didn’t matter – no matter what the situation, the server/clerk had to eat it and the customer was correct. I always believed this, too. When money was involved and there was a discrepancy, server’s had to acquiesce. It was the proper way to handles issues, keep guests happy – and even more important – coming back. I still believe that this is a good way to think, after all, without customers there would be no more stores, but after a recent experience with my own family, I had to stop and ask myself, “When is enough enough (or too much!).” Here’s what happened: I went to a movie at the Aventura mall with my husband, who is 41 years old; my in-laws, who are in their early ‘70s, and my uncle and his wife, who are in their mid ‘70s). After a 5 p.m. movie, we headed to Cheesecake Factory for a “quick” bite. Hah. Anyone who has ever been to a Cheesecake Factory anywhere in the world knows darn well that there is NO such thing as a “quick” anything there beginning with getting a seat. It is always packed. They hand out the little buzzer and ask you to hang around. So you wait, and you wait, and you hope that you will buzz before you have to eat your next meal…but you know this going in - so that is not a problem. After about 20 minutes (which was about 10 minutes less than our projected time), we buzzed. We went to the hostess stand and went to claim our table. “Joe (our chosen
restaurant check in name), party of 6,” we said, all smiles. “Please stand over there and wait for us to call you for your table,” said one of the hostesses. “It’ll be just a minute.” And that’s when it happened. After a few more minutes of wait time, she walked back over and said, “How many in your party?” “Party of 6,” we answered. “Oh, this beeper was for another Joe party – party of 4. Sorry, your table will not be ready for another little while. We’ll call you soon. Well, the way my uncle reacted to this, one would have thought that the hostess kidnapped my uncle’s first-born child! “That’s a LIE! We’ve been WAITING. How DARE you do this! We want to sit NOW! How are you going to rectify this…” Ahhh … the old “how are you going to rectify this” line. Translation: I am looking for something free and you just opened the door for me. My husband and I looked at each other. We were mortified. My mother in law tried to blow it off. The hostess was stunned - and turned off - but was still professional about it. “I will seat you as soon as possible, sir.” And she did. Perhaps five minutes later, they pulled out a big, roomy, round table that was in an ideal place. As we sat, he was still carrying on, muttering and commenting on the wait and error. Flash forward 15 minutes. We have all ordered dinner. My husband and I ordered artichokes to start, which we had no problem sharing with our family, who was obviously famished and wasting away (yes, sarcasm). Soon thereafter, the meals arrived. Two Chinese Chicken Salads…Salisbury Steak…Hamburger… Fish ‘n Chips… and uh-oh…there’s something missing. It’s the Meatloaf. Who had the … uh-oh. My Uncle. This is strike two.
“I’m very sorry. It will be out in a minute, sir. It was overcooked and we wanted it just right. We’ll bring it out in no time.” Five minutes went by and no meatloaf. We asked the waitress and she went to investigate. Another five minutes and still nothing. And from that point on, there was no living with him.”My meal is ruined. Everyone is finished. I can’t believe this. I deserve … something.” When the waitress came over with his food, he was livid. She was apologetic. He wasn’t hearing it. He was digging in (and he said that the meatloaf was great!) – but that wasn’t enough. “Get me the manager,” he yelled. “Yes, sir,” she said. And he kept eating. Mind you, the rest of us were still eating, too. There was really no crime committed. “They need to make this right,” he said, eating more. “You are all finished…” (Well, actually, no one was finished but…) And then the manager appeared. “Hi sir,” he said. “How can I help you?” My uncle launched into the story and kept hinting for a free dessert. “The meatloaf came late. After everyone else was finished. My meal is ruined. Everyone is
finished. I can’t believe this. I deserve … something to make it right.” With all the grace in the world, the manager apologized profusely and my uncle kept complaining until the manager agreed to bestow upon him a free piece of cheesecake. I was mortified, after all this was where I live. So as the manager walked away, I looked at him in disgust., My husband said, “Can you say, ‘schnurer.’” If there is really a problem I get it. Say something. But if you are looking for a problem in order to get something for free, it is not okay. And while they handled it with class – I almost felt like I wish the manager would have told him to stick it! And then I thought to myself, “Wow. How often things like this must happen. How upsetting.” My uncle was wrong. 200 percent wrong. So, contrary to the age-old saying, this customer was not right.

Stuart Geller of Geller Design Group turns houses into homes
BY BARI AUERBACH
PROVOCATIVE QUESTIONS FOR PROVOCATIVE PEOPLE
STUART GELLER, GELLER DESIGN GROUP
AN: You’ve been heralded as one of South Florida’s top designers for decades. What is it about your style that
people like so much? SG: For me, it’s all about capturing your style, not mine. It’s about how you live, not about how I think you should live. It’s about what makes you feel good, not the latest fad. It’s about what you want to surround yourself with. It’s about what brings you joy. When someone asks me to design their living space, I feel they are trusting me with their dreams. I’m there as the gentle arbiter, guiding them towards the best expression of their wishes.
is.” Home is where you raise your family, where you celebrate milestones. It’s the most viable expression of who you are as a person. Turning Houses into Homes® is what Geller Design Group is all about. It means guiding people in their personal quest for the perfect home—listening to what they say, getting to know what moves them and what their needs are, and translating that into a stylish, functional, fabulous living space.
AN: How do you go about discovering someone else’s style? SG: It all goes back to the idea of home. Ask someone what home means to them, and you won’t hear about real estate. You won’t hear about design. Instead, you will hear about a feeling of warmth, of acceptance, of security, comfort, peace. There’s a reason why people say, “Home is where the heart
AN: That sounds wonderful, but in this economy, isn’t interior design beyond the means of most of us?? SG: Interior design is not just for the super-rich. I’ve always considered it paramount to express my clients’ desires based on a true collaboration of taste, needs and budget. We are here for all who want the experience of manifesting their dreams.

Foodie Thoughts! BY HAYDEN BEAN & CAROLYNE RATTLE So you think that setting up a foodie club is easy? Let’s face it walking in to restaurant after restaurant, eating out every night, socializing with Miami’s finest, doesn’t sound like a bad job and in many respects I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else. Nonetheless we discovered many challenges and distractions before it becomes the huge foodie club that we are aiming for. For instance we found out that the club has to have a personality. It has to express feelings of what we want it to be. We have tried to work with many different people, consultants, writers and we found that whilst everyone brings their own particular flair no one brings out the personality of the club more than us. As mentioned previously we are English and being English we bring our own taste of Englishness to America. Do we try and Americanize the club so that the foodies
out there can relate to it or do we keep to our particular brand of Englishness. Our social media team said if it was a person who would it be? Well of course this person would love food! Carolyne the other half of loveFood says ‘They would be popular, always out, socializing with friends, partners and family. Your smart, in the know, happy and love to lead live to the full’ of course she gets her say in everything! I personally think that LoveFood crosses, age and gender and can be all things to all people. The reality is who doesn’t want to save money when they go out to great restaurants around South Florida. The idea is to eat more of what you love. The club can become your club and it doesn’t necessarily involve English people wearing bowler hats in 80 degree heat!

Funds raised for JCS Kosher Food Bank at unique Costco Birthday Party A unique twist on birthday parties took place recently, when the Costco store on Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami generously opened its doors an hour earlier than usual for the inaugural “Davideen Werner’s Birthday Party benefitting the JCS Kosher Food Bank.” To celebrate her birthday, Davideen and Stuart Werner invited their guests to an innovative and exciting scavenger hunt through Costco, which is also celebrating the expansion of its kosher food department. The “gift” to Davideen was a $36 per person donation, with 100% of this money benefitting the JCS Kosher Food Bank. All party-goers were grouped into fourperson teams and given a list of clues to decipher. They raced through the store, filling their baskets with the kosher products on their list, with the fastest teams receiving prizes donated by renowned artist Romero Britto. The food collected was then purchased with the contributions and delivered to the JCS Kosher Food Bank in North Miami to help individuals and families in need. Davideen Werner was thrilled with the success of her birthday celebration, saying
“I am amazed by the wonderful response of my friends and even complete strangers to this event. Many people thanked me for allowing them to do a mitzvah.” “Everyone had a blast at this party,” said Bonnie Schwartzbaum, coordinator of the JCS Kosher Food Bank. “Davideen is a fantastic volunteer and donor for our Food Bank and is constantly thinking of creative ways to provide more food for our clients.” For more information, call JCS Access at 305.576.6550 or visit jcsfl.org.

Escape to the eigth annual Deering Seafood Festival for an island celebration and savor Florida’s freshest fish and seafood prepared in an infinite number of delectable dishes. This year’s event takes place on Sunday, Mar. 25, at the Deering Estate at Cutler. What keeps people returning to the festival each year, and others eager to attend for the first time, is the wholesome family experience that is created on the biggest backyard on the bay at the historic Deering Estate at Cutler. After being selected one of the Top 100 Events in 2011 (placing seventh in the food category) and chosen one of Florida’s Top Ten Food Festivals in 2010 by BizBash Media, the staff and volunteers at the Deering Estate Foundation have been working overtime to keep the festival unique. “We’re really proud of the reputation that we have created and believe that quality of food served combined with on-going live entertainment are the keys to our success,” said Eric Haas, festival chair. “To keep everyone happy, we have extended the hours and are opening the gate at 10 a.m. this year.” At the entrance, guests are greeted by the sounds of steel drums and the towering Virgin Island stilt walkers. Once inside the gate there are activities for every age. To fully experience the Deering Seafood Festival plan to spend the day. There are pontoon boat rides aboard the Pelican Skipper to Chicken Key, an Artists’ Village featuring paintings, photography, crafts and jewelry by local artists, nature hikes and historic house tours. Community Association Beat
The three phases of a delinquent unit’s life BY MITCH DRIMMER, CAM Community Association Manager
MCollections of delinquent maintenance fees for community associations have unfortunately become a reality these days, a process that can be broken down into three distinct phases: (1) Action when a unit owner misses paymenment; (2) The nitty-gritty of collection; (3) How delinquency is resolved. Step one is making contact with the delinquent unit owner in a timely manner, usually with a courtesy letter. (People forget, checks get lost). And there are times when people simply can’t afford the current month’s payment. That’s when they would welcome a friendly note letting them know a payment plan can be worked out. In its early stage, sending a delinquency to a collection agency or an attorney is not the way to go. Only if the owner fails to contact the association directly is it necessary to escalate a recovery effort, such as calling a professional collections service that has the expertise, systems and resources to resolve such issues. Professional collection companies will contact delinquent owners and advise them of the association’s intentions regarding collection, providing the resources and assistance to an owner to resolve a situation. If initial collection efforts are unsuccessful, the unit can then be scheduled for a lien notice in advance of a foreclosure. The plain and simple fact is that attorneys focus only upon two steps for an association: (a) a notice of lien and (b) foreclosure of title. It’s a good idea for an association to enter into an agreement with collection professionals to defer legal costs and fees until the time when a unit ‘settles out,’ at which
point such costs would be collected. When it comes to the touchy subject of collection legal costs and fees once an association forecloses on title, new options open. With title in hand, the association has power and control over the unit. It can first decide whether or not to rent the unit, monetizing it for the association. A second option is to do nothing and await a bank foreclosure filing for the unit collateral value. The final ‘settle out’ phase is tied to timing in one of three ways: •iWhen the bank finally comes for its cocollateral; • When the unit owner pays up (unlikely, but itit does happen); • When a short sale is made before a bank foforeclosure. If a short sale occurs, both new and old owners are jointly and severally liable for all funds legally owed to the association. Associations should resolve each case in the most favorable manner possible, and as soon as possible. This means maximizing the amount collected and eliminating any outof-pocket costs or risks to the association. Association boards should also remember that when it’s time for a unit to settle out, it’s the title company doing the work for the bank (in most cases). Thus a collections firm working on a merit basis has a great incentive to battle it out with the title company in behalf of the association’s interests. That’s why collection professionals are best suited for collections — because of the time they’ll devote, their strategy and great negotiating skills, as well as their knowledge, experience and the incentive to do the job right.
Mitch Drimmer is a licensed CAM and is the Vice President of Association Financial Services, an accredited collection agency, specialty finance, business process outsourcing, and specializing in community associations. Jewish Museum of Florida Opens New Exhibit Aprl 3 BY JO ANN ARNOWIT
evocative tribute that brings to life a world that was all but destroyed in the Holocaust.
Once Upon a Time in Lithuania & the Florida Connection This exhibit of paintings and prints by English artist Naomi Alexander, ROI, records the last remnants of Jewish heritage in the country of Lithuania. When you think Staircase of Jewish Museum, Vilnius, oil on wood triptych, 2002.
today. As John Russell Taylor, art critic for The Times (London) says of the exhibition, "The first thing that comes to mind when you view Alexander's artworks, is that they capture a world that looks amazingly as it must have a century ago." Alexander found Woman of Telz and red door, oil on wood - triptych, 2002.
of Lithuania at the time when the majority of the population was Jewish, you may think of images from films like Fiddler on the Roof, or Yentl. But what do we know about what this area looks like today, in the 21st century? That is the quest that drew Alexander to the place of her ancestors. Alexander, who is of Lithuanian origin, was invited to be artist in residence at the Europas Parkas Sculpture Museum in Vilnius. She traveled the country to create artwork depicting her impressions of the people and their communities. To tell the expanded story, the Museum makes a Florida connection using photographs and artifacts from Floridian Jews whose origins are from Lithuania. Lithuania welcomed Jews in 1323 and the 1897 census shows 755,000 Jews in the country. The Jewish population of approximately 220,000 was all but decimated in World War II. Currently, the Lithuanian government is attempting to revive memories of its Jews, with 4,000 who live there today. Alexander's drawings and paintings capture the essence of life in Lithuania
ABOUT THE ARTIST Throughout Naomi Alexander's career, she has worked as a figurative artist. Her paintings are in museums and collections worldwide, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Royal Academy, the Duke of Devonshire at Chatsworth and the Sultan of Oman. She resides in London and is a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and also an experienced Old Master painting restorer. This exhibit is making its U.S. premiere at the Jewish Museum of Florida, where it will be on display through September 30, 2012. It was first shown at the London Jewish Cultural Center in 2006, and has also been exhibited at the Lithuanian Embassy in London, the Vilna Gaon State Jewish Museum, Vilnius, Lithuania and the University of Leicester. Once Upon a Time in Lithuania is a London Jewish Cultural Centre exhibition organized in association with the Ben Uri Gallery, the London Jewish Museum of Art. the village her grandparents came from, and she even found the house they lived in. Surprisingly, the homes look much like they did then. Before World War II there were hundreds of synagogues throughout Lithuania. Though some have been carefully preserved and lovingly restored, they are more like empty museums with no visitors. This exhibit offers a unique, visual story of the Lithuania's Jewish heritage. It also serves as an open window to the past, where one can picture a vibrant town filled with Jewish inhabitants. It is a powerful and
