SPECIAL ELECTION • SOUTH MIAMI CITY HALL • TUESDAY, JUNE 9 • 7 A.M. - 7 P.M.

and who to go...? BY MICHAEL MILLER <Michael@communitynewspapers.com>

Next Tuesday, a new commissioner will be elected in the City of Pleasant Living. At the present time, there are three guys vying for the empty spot left vacant by the death of Commissioner Jay Beckman. The three at risk of getting elected are, by alphabetical order of their first names, let’s try this out. Hey! Commissioner commander “Sir” Lew, or how about Commish “Hat” aka Alec or perhaps it’s the people’s will to elect Rene so that they can call him Commissioner Rene. In any case, one of the three will be there to serve the citizens of the City of Pleasant Living till February, 2010, when three seats will open up. One being the Mayor’s seat, with present Mayor, Horace Feliu, being the hands-on favorite to win again, one is the new “temp” and then there is... well... the favorite of the city manager, Commissioner Valerie Newman. Speaking of Valerie, since February the city filed an ethics complaint which included allegations, along with some witnesses, too, that she was walking around City Hall barking out orders to employees like she was the boss. And now there are some additional actions that she took that got the attention of the city

manager (Boy, that’s an understatement). She must have somehow forgotten AGAIN that the city manager runs the city — the commission (a majority of it) sets policy and the manager takes it from there. So, here’s the newest fodder for political junkies, pundits and writers looking for something to write about on a Sunday afternoon. The City Manager Ajibola Balogun has struck back and got it all on the record and his attorney, Neil Flaxman is setting the stage so wonderfully that this city and the newest commissioner, Valerie Newman, will be kept very busy defending itself against one of its own. In all the years of covering this comedy act over at City Hall, this time, this commission has finally reached bottom. Yup, Valerie is apparently in an all out war against the city manager and boy oh boy, this one is going cost plenty. Here are some excerpts from a letter from Neil Flaxman, the attorney representing the city manager that was sent to Mayor Horace Feliu:

This office represents the City Manager, Ajibola Balogun… I would appreciate if you would have the City Attorney contact me regarding this matter. And accompanying the attorney’s letter was a letter from the city manager to Mayor Feliu. Here are some excerpts from that letter, which was dated May 19, 2009. I must request that the city take action to intercede on my behalf related to the conduct of Commissioner Valerie Newman… It appears that Commissioner Newman makes demands on me which she believes I am required to comply with regardless of the fact that they are not authorized by the commission or yourself, and when I make decisions which are within my authority, that she disagrees, she threatens me with either insubordination or bad evaluations. The letter continues with the city manager writing what Valerie said to him: I’m not telling you what to do, but… And then according to the letter. Valerie stated, … I have a problem with the Chief of Police, he needs to be removed… Management style should only be through the Chief, not Major Mills, he needs to go, referring to Major Mills. The letter continued on quoting the

Page 3

City Charter ...Neither the Commission nor any of its members shall direct or request the appointment to, or his or her removal from the by the City Manager… And wait, there is more: The letter also says, …in addition to constituting unlawful retaliation, constitutes an abuse of power... And then there is the allegation by the manager that Valerie knowingly furnished false information to members of the commission and the public… Well, folks, the city manager is prepared for the battle that is before him, thanks to Commissioner King Valerie Newman, so taxpayers take out your wallets, cuz this city manager is covering all his bases. Well, folks, there you have it. Lots of fun at city hall, and by the way, any bets that the manager will be fired after a certain person gets elected to the commission next week? So, here’s a great deal for you: If you think that the manager will get fired or resign within three months, send me an email and let me know what date it will be effective and the person who guesses the closest date to it wins big time, as we will make a $100 donation to the South Miami Children’s Center, plus another $50 to the Fellowship House. All entries must be in no later

than June 19, 2009. My wife, Susan, and I enjoyed some bowling, some appetizers and a couple of drinks at Splitsville in the Shops at Sunset Place the other night, and so did our daughter, Lauren and her boyfriend, Levi. One of the great things about Splitsville, you don’t have to actually know how to bowl to have a good time. Our time went something like this: Throw or bounce or roll that ball down the lane without it hopping over to another lane and try to knock down those white pins at the end of your lane and then have a drink, a little calamari, and go bowl again without it going into the gutter. And then too, to make sure that we didn’t make total fools of ourselves, we would cheer each other on, no matter where that ball went. It took a while to get the swing of things, but consistent none of us were except that we had a wonderful time, especially since this was the first double date with our daughter and I’m sure we did okay by her. And by the way, they are a very handsome couple too. –––––––––––––– See

The service we got from the staff at Splitsville, from the moment we walked in the door, was exceptional. From the greeters at the front door, to the shoe ladies, the waitresses, to the manager, Scott, all did a great job. And by way, the computer screen to get your game going is so simple that even a cave man (like me) can do it. Over all, Splitsville gets an A+. Here are some folks I would like to thank: • Maroun and his family at Khoury’s Restaurant for his friendship, great meals and a wonderful family atmosphere. • Mark Richman, for his perseverance in helping revitalize South Miami by building the parking garage and for bringing three wonderful restaurants to town. • Josh Liebman, from Footworks,

South Florida’s Tri-Rail derailed by Florida Legislature R. Kenneth Bluh KENNETH’S COMMENTARY We had a good thing going in South Florida. Thousands of cars were kept off the highways as travelers took to the train to commute through Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Every year more and more travelers took Tri-Rail as their form of transportation. Now, thanks to the Florida Legislature, the trains will run less frequently during the coming year, and the year after, not at all. The Tri-Rail board recently voted to cut service from 50 to 30 train trips a day and to eliminate weekend and holiday runs. Also, without additional funding, the whole operation will be closed down by early 2011. Adding insult to injury the federal government will demand the return of $256 million given the state to add a parallel set of train tracks that was

designed to make the runs more efficient, not having to stop for trains coming in the other direction. Why the cuts in Tri-Rail funding? The answer is simple. Our Florida Legislature would rather cut service, thwarting a positive move in mass transportation, than have the guts to find the money needed to keep the trains rolling. Incredibly the legislature wanted to fund a mid-state, cross-state commuter train that was projected to have a far, far lower ridership than South Florida’s Tri-Rail. Fortunately for Florida taxpayers that move failed in the legislative process. Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, running short on funds to finance their county operations, notified Tri-Rail that they were being forced to cut back on their contributions to the system. With greatly reduced county funding and the absence of state funding in the future, the $9 million funding shortfall places the future of Tri-Rail in doubt. Tri-Rail came into existence in 1989 offering an alternate form of transportation during the reconstruction of Interstate 95. Since 1989 the system has

VIEWPOINT enjoyed ever-increasing use. Ridership has increased from 7,500 a day in 2005 to about 14,000 a day in 2009. Now its future is in doubt. If every rider is forced to use his or her auto for transportation, we will see 14,000 more cars on the road each business day. Miami-Dade and Broward counties recently announced that they will be inaugurating an inter-county bus system as early as this coming January. The buses will run between the counties using the express lanes on Interstate 95. This is both good news and bad news. The good news is that there will be some form of inter-county public transportation. The bad news is that the legislature might use this as an excuse to end discussions on creating a dedicated funding system for Tri-Rail. It is ironic that a recent Miami Herald contained an insert from the county’s Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) telling the community about

“Transportation for a New Century.” The publication tells us that the multimillion-dollar Miami Intermodal Center (MIC), where buses, trains, cabs, car rentals and private cars will all meet to provide easy access to the airport, contains a terminal for Tri-Rail. The transportation hub, currently under construction around the existing Tri-Rail tracks at a cost of $1.7 billion, includes a terminal for Tri-Rail that might not be in existence when the Intermodal Center opens. How poorly our elected officials plan and spend the taxpayers’ money. Anyone want to buy a like-new train?

Can you hear conversations, but not understand the words clearly? Does it sound like others are mumbling? This could be the first indication of hearing loss. As people begin to lose their hearing, volume does not necessarily decrease, like lowering a radio. It actually feels more like listening through a broken speaker, where you can hear but not understand what was said. The Transportation Trust – Moving Forward

The Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust (Transportation Trust) is the oversight board created as part of the half-cent sales surtax and the People’s Transportation Plan approved by the voters of Miami-Dade County in 2002. Since the passage of the Plan there have been significant improvements to our public transportation system and roadways. These include the addition of millions of miles of new bus routes, the purchase of more than 262 new buses and the funding of 21 municipal shuttle bus systems throughout the County — from Coral Gables to Aventura to Hialeah. More than 173,000 senior citizens and veterans ride public transportation for free under the Golden Passport and Patriot Passport programs.

The first leg of the Metrorail system expansion will break ground this May. This $525 million project — the Miami Intermodal Center/Earlington Heights Connector — will bring Metrorail to Miami International Airport. A new fleet of railcars and Metromover cars are also being purchased. In the transportation area, more than 390 miles of roadways have been improved. A new Advanced Traffic Management System that will ease traffic congestion throughout our community is currently being installed. Traffic circles have been constructed and school safety crossing zones have been improved.

There is, however, much yet to be done. There has been great concern over promises made and the ability to fund those projects. The Trust shares these concerns. The Trust is also encouraged and applauds the candor, honesty and quality of the discussion occurring within Miami-Dade County and the community. Recent events and dialogue sponsored by Mayor Carlos Alvarez; Commission Chair Dennis C. Moss; Transit, Infrastructure and Roads Committee Chair Barbara J. Bankruptcy is a perfectly legitimate way to stop foreclosures and repossessions, put an end to lawsuits, protect paychecks from garnishments and regain control of your life. When filing for bankruptcy, it must be filed correctly in order to for it be successful. It is important to consult a bankruptcy attorney or debt relief lawyer in your area to ensure that you fully understand your options regarding bankruptcy and whether this is the best decision for your financial future. Personal bankruptcy is filed either as a Chapter 7 or a Chapter 13: Chapter 7—Liquidation—wipes out most of your debts and in return, you may have to give up some of your property. If you are considering a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and you are behind in your mortgage, make certain that you first reach a loan modification/loan workout or refinance with your lender. In the Chapter 7 Bankruptcy there will not be a loan modification option of your existing mortgage and, therefore, if you stop paying your mortgage you could lose your home. Your homestead is exempt. However, it can be foreclosed on if you do not pay. Chapter 13–Reorganization— enables you to pay off all or a portion of your debts during a three to five year period, yet does not require you to give up any of your assets to pay creditors. As long as you keep making payments, creditors will not bother you for payment or continue the foreclosure against your property. In the Chapter 13 Bankruptcy you can save your house.

The following is a list of facts you should know about filing bankruptcy: • Bankruptcy is a matter of public record. • A credit counseling course and financial management course are required. • Creditors will be prohibited from contacting you concerning your debt. • Florida law will exempt certain assets. • You may suffer some discrimination in future employment opportunities. • A stigma may still be attached to filing bankruptcy. • A record of filing for bankruptcy may remain on your credit profile for up to 10 years. • By eliminating your debt in Chapter 7 or making payments in a Chapter 13, you will immediately improve your credit score. In the midst of an economic crisis, please try not to forget the importance of life and your priorities. I have clients who are falling apart not only financially, but also emotionally and physically. Saving your home is not the only solution. A job is needed that can pay for the revised monthly payment. Activities to stimulate good health and family events to create memorable moments with children, family and friends are a must. Take all the necessary steps to preserve what is important to you by taking advantage all of your options. There are options available for you. And, more continue to come with evolving federal and state laws. Know your rights and know your options. Call an attorney today to guide you towards stabilizing your life. My strong spiritual feelings and belief in God, my love for my supportive family and unity, my dedication to my country and the American justice principals, my desire to help others, particularly those that cannot help themselves. What interests you in running for office? I am a long time civic leader who has worked hard for our community. I am running to protect and improve the quality of life for South Miami residents. It would be a privilege to serve as your commissioner. What single issue do you think is the most critical for the City to address at this time? Overdevelopment must stop! I will fight against overdevelopment and oppose projects which hurt our community’s quality of life. With three candidates in contention for the position, why do you think that you are the best person for this job? My years of community service, civic involvement and prior government experience have given me the knowledge and voice to change the direction in which the City of South Miami is now heading. For years, I have been listening and learning about the important issues that face our city. I am as passionate about protecting our peaceful way of life as all residents want for South Miami. What would you bring to the Commission that would help improve the lives of South Miami residents? I will adapt performance based budgeting to ensure our taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. I will stand up for ALL RESIDENTS and serve as your voice in South Miami City government, not the voice of special interest. I will help our homeowners by lowering taxes and ensure that our police have the resources they need to keep us safe.

and a Minor in Spanish Literature from Pace University, New York (1989) • US Naval Engineering, US Navy Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois (1980) What is your present job? I run a very successful PR and marketing agency, AJR & Partners. Have you ever served/or now serve on a City Board or Committee? Which one(s)? and when? Also, please note any other civic and community involvement (not limited to South Miami). I am member of the following: • American Legion • Chamber South, Member and Ambassador • Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce • Temple Israel of Greater Miami, Board of Trustee member • Former Sunday School teacher, Temple Israel of Greater Miami • South Florida Technology Alliance, former board member and advisory board Core Principals that guide your decision making and life: I speak truth to power. My core beliefs are centered on Hard Work, Honesty, Integrity, Respect for others and a motivation to do the right thing, even if it’s not the most popular thing. I would rather lose this election by a landslide than compromise my core beliefs and values for a single vote. What interests you in running for office? I decided to run when the city started squeezing small business with an onerous garbage collection scheme, which collects 25 percent on the contract I was forced to sign. In previous years the landlord had a master contract for all tenants. Basically we were told, without this contract the City would not renew our Certificate of Occupancy. This strong-arm tactic has me questioning the future of keeping my business here. If the city can do this to businesses, who will stop them from creating new fees for homeowners or protect the middle class. That is why I am running. What single issue do you think is the most critical do the city to address at this time? I’ve been conducting a Hillary Clintonesque Listening Tour and have met many voters with different views about South Miami. My priority is preserving our neighborhood charm, while bringing balance to the need for sustainable growth, and promoting a healthy business center that ensures a vibrant community for all. With three candidates in contention, why do you think that you are the best person for this job? I respect my opponents and either would serve the city admirably. However, as a newcomer to local politics, I don’t owe anyone favors; I’m not tainted by past politics, I’m not in the pocket of any person or group, and if elected I will be an independent and opened-minded Commissioner. What would you bring to the commission that would help improve the lives of South Miami Residents? As a resident raising a family and a business owner making a living in South Miami, I will bring a unique perspective to local government by being able to balance competing needs with a shared vision: sustainable growth that respects our community’s past but plans for the future (see: www.alecjrosen.com).

I have been employed with the Federal Government as an Auditor for 17 years. Have you ever served/or now serve on a City Board or Committee? Which one(s)? and when? Also, please note any other civic and community involvement (not limited to South Miami). I have served as a member of the 2004 and 2005 Budget and Finance Committee for the City. I am a past President, Treasurer and coach of the South Miami Youth Baseball League. I am a Deacon and Youth Leader at Riverside Baptist Church. I am also a fan of my children, Trey, Courtney and Leigh Anne, when competing, whether it is Grey Ghost football, any South Miami Middle School sport or Community School piano/dance recitals. What are the core principals that guide your decisionmaking and life? My faith in God influences my attitudes and my interaction with my family and my fellow man. I strive to have a positive effect in all that I do. I firmly believe that if I intend to do something, I must give it my all, all the time. What interests you in running for office? I have lived in South Miami longer than I have lived anywhere in my life. It is my home. My wife and I are raising our three children here and we want this City to provide all its citizens with a safe, small town atmosphere for each to enjoy. My parents taught me the importance of civic responsibility in which everyone should strive to make their community a better place to live. This is my desire to make South Miami a place where others want to live, work and play. What single issue do you think is the most critical for the City to address at this time? In challenging economic times, we must find a way to reduce the tax burden for all. Each of us must balance our income against our expenses. The City is no different. I offer my talents to seek creative, effective ways to cut expenses yet insure services will not be diminished. With three candidates in contention for the position, why do you think that you are the best person for this job? My educational background as well as my ability to quickly understand and comprehend any issue makes me a person well suited to be seated at the dais. My desire is to do my very best to keep South Miami as the place where you would want to live. What would you bring to the Commission that would help improve the lives of South Miami residents? A sense of community. Though we may come from diversified backgrounds, we all call South Miami home. I want us to come together to insure that South Miami is moving in a positive direction. A city divided cannot achieve its full potential for its residents or businesses.

BY LINDA RODRIGUEZ BERNFELD In today’s economy, people are looking for ways to turn unused items they have in their homes into moneymaking treasure. One way of doing that is by selling off unused gold jewelry. Some companies have gold owners send them the gold items in specially market envelopes and then give them a quote. But Countrywide Gold Buyers is different — it buys the gold on the spot. Countywide Gold Buyers has kiosks at Dadeland Mall, Miami International Mall and a store at The Falls Shopping Center, with plans for additional locations. Edwin Carrion, the company’s chief financial officer, who will oversee the Miami locations, and company president Luis Junco explained what they do. “We’re looking for used, broken and outdated gold jewelry,” Carrion said. “We buy gold, silver and platinum.” Because of the state of the economy, Carrion and Junco recognize there is a need for people to make money. “We recycle your gold for cash,” Carrion said. “Everybody is doing the ‘green’ thing, but they are forgetting to recycle the most precious metals, which are gold, silver and platinum.” Junco said this is a new market they are exploring while helping people who need cash. “Our two goals are to help the community and help the environment,” he says. “We’re not a pawn shop. We provide a safe, secure environment for people to come and sell their jewelry.” Countrywide Gold Buyers works directly with refineries where the jewelry is melted down for resale to jewelers. They weigh and test the jewelry, cutlery

or even gold teeth in front of the customer. “We actually show the prices to the customer,” Junco said. “People come in and say this is 10-carat gold and we tell them ‘no,’ it’s 18 carats and pay them for 18 carats.” Plus, National Gold Buyers will not pull that trick where they see a valuable piece and lowball the customer and then turn around and resell it for a huge profit. Carrion said if a customer comes in with antique pieces that could be more valuable “as is” instead of buying the piece and melting it down, they’ll suggest the owner try selling the pieces at antique shows or look for other places where they will get the value they deserve. “We tell them what it’s worth,” Junco said. “We are fair. We do what we do because we want people to trust us. Not many people know about jewelry. We don’t resell anything. We are not estate brokers.” Junco and Carrion said they want the public to understand they are not like pawnbrokers who buy jewelry for far less than its value. They post their prices and weigh the jewelry in front of the customers. And they give the customer a check right on the spot. They also report everything they buy to the police, which is why they require identification from sellers. Clients can make money. Carrion said the average customer sells $800 to $1,000 in gold items. And those hosting a gold party at National Gold Buyers can make even more. “We’ll close the store and we’ll purchase the gold and you get 10 percent of the sales,” Carrion said. “You can come here and drink some wine and eat some cheese.” For more information, call 305-4676694 or visit online at <www.bringgoldgetcash.com>.

Commissioner Moss honors CRHS basketball champions

BY LEE STEPHENS Members of the Coral Reef High School boys’ basketball team are still celebrating their recent state championship and Miami-Dade County Commission chair Dennis C. Moss recognized the winning coach and team on May 21 in the Miami-Dade County Commission chambers. In early March, the Coral Reef Barracudas came from behind and defeated Orlando Olympia in Lakeland with a final score of 69-60. In addition, Coral Reef’s boys basketball team made history by becoming the first school from the south Miami-Dade area to win a boys basketball championship in 50 years. Sports is not the only thing on which Coral Reef High prides itself. The school is very big on academics.

“It’s amazing how dedicated they are both to their basketball and their class work,” said second-year coach Gaston “Chachi” Rodriguez. “I’ll have kids that are getting A’s and B’s, and they’ll still be stressing about doing better.” Only a handful of teammates from Coral Reef were able to take part in the presentation at the County Commission chambers. More than a dozen had to remain at school due to final exams and end of the year commitments. Commissioner Moss saw to it that each member of the team was recognized and given a Certificate of Appreciation for his efforts. “I am proud of these young men who are committed to both academics and athletics,” Moss said. “I’m sure this is just the beginning of great things for each one of them. Keep up the good work.”

Your emergency portable TV may not work after hurricane BY HAL FELDMAN We entered another South Florida hurricane season on June 1. We all know the drill; we’ve done it countless times before. Prepare the shutters, check the generators, get fuel and make sure you have plenty of fresh batteries for the flashlights and your emergency portable TV. But this year, fresh batteries for the TV likely won’t be enough. Most of us will need a fresh TV too. On June 12, 2009, the FCC and U.S. Government requirement to have all broadcast television stations permanently shut down their analog signals goes into effect. This means most TV sets that are not using cable or satellite boxes simply will stop working. More importantly, nearly all of the portable TV sets people have packed away for emergency use become instantly defunct. So, if you are used to huddling around your battery-powered emergency TV to watch news reporters flap in the breeze as they tell you about the latest hurricane damage, you’ll need to buy a new set that has a digital tuner (ATSC). Otherwise, it’ll just be you and the radio. And for those who do have satellite or cable plugged into an analog TV; don’t forget that should (or more likely, when) the cable or satellite feed goes out, you are in the same boat. Nothing but snow to keep you company as the winds howl outside. The reason for the analog shut down is clear — or more accurately high-def. It is the ATSC digital signal that is capable of producing beautiful, high-resolution HDTV images on our ever-expansive flatscreen TVs. It’s the future of all TV. During the past two years, all broadcast television stations have been dual broadcasting their

programming in both analog (NTSC) and digital (ATSC) formats to accommodate viewers during the transition. The June 12 analog shutoff is the next logical step in the move to HDTV. While there are many benefits to the digital signal, the lack of backwards compatibility is a huge drawback, especially for Floridians during hurricanes. For the uninformed, our next weather event could be a rude awakening. That’s why, as a technology consultant, I felt it important to write this article. It is important to know that this potential “communication emergency” is real. Thankfully, the solution is simple. Buying a new emergency ATSC portable television is not an expensive proposition. At around $100, it’s pretty much a nobrainer. I have seen and recommend buying either the Haier 7-inch portable TV (Model HLT71) or the Coby 8-inch portable TV (Model TF-TV891). Both are sold through Amazon.com (use this link http://tinyurl.com/hurricaneTVs). In addition to the new portable TV, you also may want to consider an external HDTV antenna. Based on my research in the areas of Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay, digital broadcast reception is marginal with the use of a basic indoor antenna and may require something beyond the included telescoping antenna. Either a roof antenna or a passive indoor antenna such as the Terk HDTVi are good choices. Even though amplified antennae typically yield better reception, I suggest you don’t buy one for your hurricane supplies. If the power is out, you are out of luck.

2009 Nissan Maxima luxury sport sedan has all-new identity Ron Beasley AUTOMOTIVE EDITOR

LET’S TALK CARS The all-new 2009 Nissan Maxima is the seventh generation of the luxury sport sedan and it just may be the best one yet. The Maxima rides on Nissan’s popular D Platform, the same FWD underpinning that was introduced with the hot-selling Altima. However, the chassis has been “enhanced” with the use of aluminum suspension links, revised suspension, new technology shocks, a lower engine mounting and a new Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), all of which contribute to minimal torque steer and much better handling As for design, the new Maxima no longer resembles its sibling Altima, but does look a lot like Nissan’s new GT-R super sports car. It has a short nose and deck, a long sloping roof, deeply sculpted fenders and a wider front and rear track. Wraparound upturned headlights and a wide grille combine with a large bumper

opening and a bulging hood. The design flows through deep-waisted rear fenders and into a high trunk lid. New L-shaped LED taillights with side marker bulbs accent the rear. The sporty look is accented further by 18-inch (or available 19-inch) aluminum alloy wheels and low-profile performance tires. The new Maxima is available in two models, the 3.5 S and 3.5 SV, both powered by an enhanced 3.5-liter VQ-series 290-hp V-6 engine (19/26 mpg). The revised engine has a modular design with microfinished crank journals and cam lobes, molybdenum coated lightweight pistons, a resin intake collector, digital knock control, six individual coils (one per spark plug) and a cross-flow coolant pattern. It also has a Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), a variable induction system, a silent timing chain and an electronically controlled throttle. It all adds up to more horsepower and torque for quicker acceleration. The 3.5 SV models add leatherappointed sport seats, an advanced Bose premium audio system with nine speakers, HomeLink, fog lights and outside mirrors with turn signal indicators. Several option packages are offered,

including the Sport Package with sporttuned suspension, 19-inch wheels, rear spoiler, High Intensity Discharge (HID) Xenon headlights, heated outside mirrors with reverse tilt-down features, automatic entry/exit system with two-driver memory, heated front seats and steering wheel, paddle shifters, metallic link trim, Bluetooth, Satellite Radio and premium leather-appointed seats. The Premium Package includes a dualpanel moonroof with rear roof window and front and rear power retractable sunshades, heated outside mirrors with reverse tilt-down features, automatic entry/exit system with two-driver memo-

ry, heated front seats and steering wheel, paddle shifters, premium leather-appointed seats, eucalyptus wood-tone trim, 7.0inch color monitor and rearview monitor. This new 2009 Nissan Maxima should compete very well in a class that includes the Chrysler 300, Cadillac CTS, Acura TL, Infiniti G35 and Toyota Avalon. Base price is $29,290 on the 3.5S and $31,900 on the 3.5SV.
