GOVERNOR’S NOTE Hey KIWIN’S, Looks like the term is really coming to an end, huh? To start off, I just want to say a simple thank you. Thank you for the best term and all of the unforgettable memories. Thank you for pouring your hearts into this organization and bringing our district to new heights. Every month, the board has been blown away and I cannot wait to see all of your final achievements as the term reaches a conclusion. Whether this be your first or last year in KIWIN’S, I hope you consider attending District Convention! Elections, workshops, dances, and spirit; what more could a KIWINNER ask for? This year’s convention is definitely going to be a wild adventure and I hope to see you there! If you have not already done so, make sure to let your president know if you want to attend and register as soon as possible. With that, I’ll end my note. Let’s make these last two months incredible. With a passion to serve, Emma Chang District Governor P.S. I hope I get to SEA you all at Awake-A-Thon! Make sure to pre-register ASAP :)

LEADERSHIP Without a doubt, running for leadership positions within KIWIN’S is life-changing. Being a part of a KIWIN’S Board is an extremely rewarding and unique experience that I believe everyone should have the opportunity to be involved in. Being a KIWIN’S officer is a great deal of work, however; every second of it is worthwhile. Between event planning, meetings, reports, and service events, you will certainly be busy! On the other hand, I have found most of the time, the hours of work seem more like fun surrounded by new friends. What are you waiting for? Take a step further in your KIWIN’S journey. Your actions will help make a difference in the lives of people throughout your community, and ultimately, around the world. That’s pretty incredible to think about, in my opinion. Written by Sandra Ly District Secretary

From meeting clubbers from around the world and celebrating all our organization has achieved, to trading pins and visiting service workshops, this week will be one to remember! FALL RALLY RECAP NOVEMBER 16 & 23, 2019

Fall Rally is a yearly event in which all the southern divisions of the CNH KIWIN’S gather to raise awareness and funds for the Pediatric Trauma Program. The Pediatric Trauma Program is a district project that focuses on raising awareness for children of ages 0-19 on accidents and traumas. Through fun events that take place during Fall Rally, such as the Penny Wars and pie-ing, the Kiwanis program is able to raise thousands of dollars to support this cause. Not only does it raise awareness for PTP, but it also allows the Kiwanis family to create amazing memories together. Fall Rally consists of spirit battles, icebreakers, games, and dances that people are able to enjoy to their fullest. Angel Lee, our

12

Goldstone lieutenant governor said, “Fall Rally was definitely a different experience for me as a district board member. I was able to plan the event as well as experience what it was like to run Fall Rally”. Each member’s experience of Fall Rally is different and unique. It gives everybody a special memory every single year that we will be able to cherish. Fall Rally is truly special in many ways and allows the Kiwanis family to create memories and bonds that is special to each and every member. Written by Kevin Chung Glen A Wilson, Goldstone

BOUND TO SERVE ARTICLE NOVEMBER 1-20, 2019

On December 7th three of our officers helped clean children’s books that we were giving to hospitals. We worked for 3 hours between 11 am-1 pm and sorted through dozens of books and organized the appropriate books from which we would give to hospitals and which ones we would give to goodwill. The majority were in good enough condition that we were happily able to give to the children’s hospital.

This was a very fun event because we got to see all of the wonderful children’s books and we knew that they would be put to good use with more kids. Written by Spencer Kellen Palisades, Crystal

D I S T R I C T C O N V E N T I O N C H A I R L E TA B RYA N ’ S

D I S TRI C T CONVE NTI ON E XPE RI E NCE My first district convention was in 2018. I was a bit intimidated and I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into. Little did I know, I was about to start one of the most memorable weekends of my life thus far. My first district convention was instrumental in kick starting my KIWIN’S journey. I had been newly elected as my club’s Vice President and I was eager to learn and figure out what my role was within my club. I watched my club gain recognition during the first session and I was so excited to try for many of the awards the following year. On Saturday I attended many informative workshops, watched the talent show in fascination, and even danced a little at the governor’s ball. Upon departure on Sunday, I was sad the weekend was over but I was filled with an overwhelming urge to achieve within KIWIN’S. DCON was a catalyst for my club board. We were all inspired to serve and we each earned about 100 service hours in the few months following DCON. When dcon 2019 came around, we were even more excited. I was a campaign manager so my dcon experience was a bit different. I remember walking out of my first caucus room and talking to one of the newly elected Lt.Gs. I met so many cool people on district board and my candidate won, so I thought more and more about appointed board. DCON went by all too fast. All of the workshops were a blast, especially lei making. The talent show was even better. The governors ball was loud and fun and somehow I ended up around the middle of the dance circle on more than one occasion. On Sunday it was hard saying goodbye to new friends but we’ve kept in touch.

DCON was really fun, but more than that it reaffirmed my love for service and made me remember my drive to make my community a better place. DCON is by far my favorite district event and to all those who are hesitant about going I urge you to take the leap and go, because DCON really does make a difference. I hope to see you all in San Ramon at DCON 2020. Written by Leta Bryan District Convention Chair Registration Tutorial https://youtu.be/_cN8G35W5MU Resource Pack http://bit.ly/dconpack2020

AIDS WALK LA October 20, 2019

Our October divisional event at AIDS WALK LA was full of walking, setting up snacks, and fun cheering. We first arrived very early in the morning, and walked over to our checkpoint as an entire group. Our division took control over an entire water station by ourselves, and helped set up all the tables and other necessities. When the walk officially started past 10 AM, we actively participated by passing out chips, water, ice cream, and encouragements to all the walkers that passed by. Our members had a lot of fun trying to pass out the most snacks to the runners by holding up multiple bags of chips all at once. AIDS WALK 2019 was definitely an event that allowed us to bring more awareness to a great cause, as well as being a fun bonding event between all members of Crystal! Gift Wrapping for PTP December 6 & 13, 2019

On December 6 and December 13, Marina KIWIN’S helped shoppers at the Barnes & Noble in Bella Terra wrap gifts for their friends and family. We all gathered at a station near the entrance from Starbucks to Barnes & Noble from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. There, we wrapped people’s gifts and raised money for PTP. The second date, December 13th, was busier, as it was closer to the holidays. As the number of members grew throughout the afternoon, we started to get crowded and eventually sent people to advertise our booth near the main entrance of Barnes & Noble. This event attracted new members and even inspired non-members such as Amberly Troung, Mira Vuong, and Ava Baker to join KIWIN’S! Freshman Brandon Do states: “Gift wrapping was such a magical experience, interacting with strangers and making new friends. Next year, I will definitely do it again!” As Do states, we met tons of interesting people: from teachers who surf to seniors sending gifts to their grandchildren out of state. Furthermore, new, reserved members could be seen conversing with other members and even strangers who came to our booth! In addition to sharpening our gift wrapping skills, this event allowed our club to grow and meet different people in our community. I guess you could say that the KIWIN’S spirit was especially PRESENT at this event! Well, that’s a WRAP! Written by Christina Pham Marina, Jet Division

Santa Claus with a Cause December 15, 2019

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere you go!” What better way to get into a festive mood than by volunteering at So Cal Santa Claus with a Clause! Like kids on Christmas day, KIWINNERS woke up bright and early to seize to help out and arrived at Huntington Beach to help out in any way possible. Upon arriving at the event, volunteers were welcomed by a magical and blithe atmosphere, and after decking out in Christmas attire, members got straight to work! They helped set up tables, pass out snacks, cheer on runners, and most importantly, helped spread that holiday cheer! According to Senior Representative Jenny Pham, “christmas is my favorite holiday, so I had a fun time spreading holiday cheer and bonding together with everyone in order to create a memorable experience,” showing how blissful the event was for volunteers and runners alike! Regardless of the task at hand, KIWINNERS enjoyed their time together and created lasting memories that they’ll always cherish. Overall, the event was an amazing opportunity for members to bond and give back to the community. Written by Tommy Nguyen La Quinta, Jet Division
