International President |WELCOME Hi, Key Club members!

What an exciting time this is! Whether this district conference is your very first or your fourth and final, thse few days are sure to be some you’ll not soon forget. My Key Club journey only really began at my first Alabama district convention. I had been elected as the new Lieutenant Governor for Division 5 of the Alabama District and had absolutely no idea what I was doing or what I had gotten myself into. For the first time, I clapped and cheered in a room with 300 other wildly excited high schoolers, witnessed caucusing in action, and realized that a Key Club convention was far, far more than a bunch of kids learning about a club. I listened to the 2012-2013 Key Club International President speak at opening session, and realized that maybe I, too, could one day lead this great organization. Kiwanis, nearing the finish line of the Eliminate Project. We now have a presence in a record 37 nations around the world. Our membership numbers have once again broken last year’s records, and our clubs are continuing to serve like never before. As President, it’s been my pleasure to watch these things transpire with a front row seat and do my best to encourage and support such progress. Serving you as your President is my honor and privilege. I implore you to use what you learn and emulate what you see this weekend to carry the torch of student leadership into Key Club’s next 90 years. Our future is brilliantly bright- and it’s in your hands. Best,

Rip Livingston 2015-16 Key Club International President

WELCOME |International Vice President Hello!

My name is Addison Clipfell and I’m currently serving as your 2015 2016 International Vice President. It is been an honor to work alongside the international board this year. I am wishing you a fabulous convention as you celebrate your wonderful year of service. You will spend this weekend with 600 extremely diverse and cultured Key Club members. Cherish your time with them, learn from them, and collaborate with them. This is your opportunity to grow not only as a servant leader and a Key Clubber, but also a person. Your district board has put in countless hours to make this weekend the best it can be. Make sure you thank them for not only their work planning this convention but also their work throughout the year. Though, they are not the only ones who have worked hard this year. Without the work of you, the members, none of this is possible. Congratulations to all the award winners and good luck to all of you candidates. I hope your high school career has only been enhanced by this weekend and that your membership in Key Club has contributed to your happiness and success. I hope you all continue to have such a passion and drive for service in your future endeavors. You are truly inspiring.

This service year has been a tremendous success thanks to the dedication and hard work all of you have exemplified in serving your homes, schools and communities. This also extends to all of the remarkable adults that have guided you throughout the year and have made many sacrifices to ensure your clubs were efficacious. Now, it is your turn to relax and enjoy this weekend as we celebrate YOU, the stars that make the show truly spectacular! I have had the greatest honor of serving as the CNH KIWIN’S Trustee this year. It has been such a delight working with a District Board as passionate and committed as yours. They worked incredibly hard to make this weekend very special, so when you get a chance, be sure to thank them! I hope you take full advantage of this convention and enjoy the exciting opportunities this weekend holds. WELCOME | District Governor Greetings to the CNH KIWIN’S Ohana! Welcome to the 40th Anniversary District Convention, Cirque Du Service: The 40th KIWIN’S Spectacular!! I am so excited to share this weekend of service, spirit, Ohana, laughter, celebration, and maybe even a few tears with all of you. District Board at your Service have worked long and hard hours to make this event the best it can be, so I hope you have an amazing time. Whether this is your first convention or last convention, I encourage all of you to take advantage of all the opportunities offered to you. This weekend will be filled to the brim with workshops, special guests, recognition, and fun, so leave here with no regrets. Don’t be afraid to meet someone new, go to a new workshop, cheer your heart out, or break out in dance. Everyone here is a part of this amazing Ohana, and we are all here to support each other. Over the past year, it has been such a pleasure to be able to service such amazing leaders and individuals. With each service project, fundraiser, and phone call, my love for all of you seemed to grow tenfold. I feel so much love for all of you amazing individuals. I’m so fortunate to have been able to serve the 40 best clubs and 2,400 most amazing members in the entire world. This District has been able to make such an incredible impact on our communities and even the world. Together we have been able to serve over 35,000 hours and raise over $40,000 for Project Eliminate and Pediatric Trauma Program. It literally brings tears to my eyes to think about all of your dedication and passion for helping others and giving back to the world. As 14, 15, 16, 17,and 18 year olds, we have this unique opportunity to change lives and even the world, and I admire each one of you so much for doing so. Your efforts will inspire generations of leaders, which will create a ripple effect of service that will last longer than our lifetimes. And, now I would just like to take a moment to thank all of you for being here. Thank you for all you have contributed to this amazing District because all of you are what makes this organization special. Your commitment to service, love for the organization, and enthusiasm as change-makers truly inspires me to be a better person and leader each day. I cannot wait to meet all of you this weekend and celebrate the impacts you have had on your homes, schools, and communities. Finally, as we all move on to the next part of our lives, whether it be continuing in the organization or going off into adulthood, keep in mind that you will always be a part of the KIWIN’S Ohana no matter what. Yours in Service and with Heart,

Jade Wong 2015-16 KIWIN’S District Governor

District Secretary | WELCOME W-E-L-C-O-M-E, WELCOME CNH KIWIN’S! I’ve been waiting for this weekend for my entire life, which is totally a legitimate thing to say since my life only began once I joined this club. In fact, I wholeheartedly believe KIWIN’S is not just a club we’re an organization of driven teenagers with the desire to serve, we’re a team of servant leaders that have changed the world, and most importantly, we’re a family that has grown so much together. This weekend is not only for celebrating our achievements as individuals, clubs, divisions, and a district, but also for learning. I’m not just talking about the typical learning you might be thinking about, though! Sure, we’ll learn who our new executive board for 2016-2017 is. We’ll learn about leadership and planning, partner charities, and specific positions in tons of workshops. But we’ll also learn about the concrete bond between us all: learn about how much we’ll miss the seniors that we’ve grown beside all these years, about how we will do anything in our ability to continue the legacy and pass on what we learned, and about how we have come so far together. I’ve met some lifelong best friends through KIWIN’S, and I would not be who I am today without them. It literally brings me to tears to try to imagine living without them because it is just impossible. I’ve discovered so much about myself and conquered so many obstacles beside them, and my only wish is that at least one other member can have an experience as enriching and worthwhile as mine. To my District Board, thank you for impacting my life and giving me an experience I will never take for granted. To Mr. and Mrs. U, thank you for being the grandparents I never had and for always showing me unconditional love and support. To my secretaries, thank you for being the best I have worked with and dutifully serving your communities. To my lovely, unforgettable CNH KIWIN’S family, thank you for being the best thing that has ever blessed my life.

Tiffany Nguyen 2015-16 KIWIN’S District Secretary

WELCOME | District Treasurer Ladies and Gentlemen of CNH KIWIN’S… Welcome one and all to the impressive show that is our 2016 DCON Cirque du Service: The 40th KIWIN’S Spectacular! Every year, our District Convention is a way for District Board to give back to the officers and members who have dedicated their entire year to our organization through service, fundraising, and love. As you all have worked tirelessly the entire year to serve your communities and raise money for the Eliminate Project and Pediatric Trauma Prevention, we have worked on an amazing convention to celebrate your efforts and award your achievements. So I truly hope from, the bottom of my heart, every single member that attends DCON goes home with a heart full of undying spirit and love for service and KIWIN’S. As your 2015-2016 District Treasurer, I came into the term starry-eyed. I was mind numbingly nervous and scared, but at the same time I had so many ideas and hopes for what the District could accomplish in this new term. I have had the greatest honor of serving the most amazing treasurers, officers, and members over this past year. I really have to say the record-breaking funds raised this year for Eliminate and PTP are truly the efforts of late nights and stressful planning from officers and relentless support from members - so I thank you. I’ve always loved the office of Treasurer because it really is a unique position in which one is able to create an entire event from scratch on a regular basis, and the impact it has on the community or the world is measurable down to the dollar. But really I can say without exaggeration, every single member in KIWIN’S has made such a tremendous impact on our organization. CNH KIWIN’S may not be the biggest District in Key Club International, but the achievements we have per capita of members are remarkable. This weekend is for the members. I hope you scream your hearts out and lose your voices. I implore you to make new friends from different divisions and go to a workshop that is out of your comfort zone. The lessons and inspiration that members have given me this year will travel with me into college and the rest of my life. I cannot comprehend how much you all have given me and I will never take it for granted. Thank you so much for allowing me the privilege of serving the most amazing Key Club District in the world and I will always be a proud member of the CNH KIWIN’S Ohana. Yours in Service,

Kathy Bui 2015-16 KIWIN’S District Treasurer

District Bulletin Editor | WELCOME Hello CNH KIWIN’S! To start off, welcome to the 40th KIWIN’S Spectacular! I’m extremely excited everyone took his or her time to come to the 40th CNH KIWIN’S District Convention! The entire board worked hard all year to make this end of the year event fun and memorable for the district; we really hope everyone enjoys this as their first district convention or even their last. We have so much planned for you guys in this three-day packed event! I’m shaking with happiness just writing this down because the venue is obviously gorgeous, and for sure the events and workshops planned are going to help officers and members for the next year. For those who are attending DCON for the first time, I promise you this will impact your life in such a positive way. Not only will you learn about CNH KIWIN’S and the Kiwanis Family better, but also you will have a greater appreciation for your home, school and community. You might be wondering, “where’s all the fun”? Don’t worry-we always work hard and play hard so there will be a dance on Saturday night packed with fun events! Remember DCON is where everything happens for the district! The outcome of next year’s executive board, awards, workshops, and last but not least, special memories that can be recalled back many years later because I definitely still remember my first district convention as a young freshman. It might be confusing at first, but I’m so glad I decided to continue my KIWIN’S journey as a freshman. Frankly, it was the best decision that I’ve made in my high school career. Of course, I haven’t forgotten my seniors! Man, we have made it. All those frustrating hours of balancing our personal lives with school and trying-note ‘trying’-to look as if we got our lives together-somehow KIWIN’S fitted perfectly into our already busy lives. I can confidently say that we all feel we have made a great decision in high school to stick with KIWIN’S. I know I have. I hope everyone will continue to remember how KIWIN’S changed their lives for the better in the future when we go off to college. I mean life still goes on, but you can’t forget your roots. Truly from the depths of my heart, I hope this year’s district convention will be memorable enough for all to recall in their 90s. Tears will be shed. Memories will be made. First-timers, thank you for deciding to come to the 40th KIWIN’S Spectacular. Lasttimers (is that even a thing), thank you for coming to end your KIWIN’S journey on a highnote. Remember, there is always Circle K!

WELCOME | District Convention Chair Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Welcome and thank you all so much for joining our circus troupe in Los Angeles, California for “Cirque du Service: The 40th KIWIN’S Spectacular”! This weekend is a time for bonding, cheering, and learning in celebration of not only the accomplishments of the past year, but also the 40th anniversary of our organization. With our fourth decade of commitment to service now behind us, let us continue this legacy and build upon our leadership for future years to come. District Board at your service has worked countless hours preparing this convention for you, the members, because without you, we would have never surpassed our goals, and without you, none of this would have been possible. Each and every single one of you are stars of the show. I commend you all for your selflessness and I hope that you will continue to carry on these values wherever life takes you. Entering junior year and taking on a district board position, I honestly didn’t know what I was in for, but throughout this term, you all inspired me to work hard and be bold with my ideas. Now looking back, I swell up with so much pride at even the mention of our district because I know that although we may not see it now, the little things that we did together have made a significant impact on the world. Thank you so much especially to the Convention Committee, Governor Jade, and Mr. Dimsdale for being the ones that transformed my dreams into reality. It has been my pleasure to serve as your District Convention Chair, and I look forward to getting to meet you! With that, I hope that this District Convention will captivate your heart and impel you to continue to to serve your community with high spirits. I hope that no matter what path you go onto after this, you will take what you learned and apply it in your community. I hope that you will meet many members of your fun-loving Ohana and revitalize your love for KIWIN’S. I hope that when you look around, you will be immersed into a new world, a promising circus with many acts and talents in store. Most of all, I hope you leave here with post-DCON syndrome. Welcome to District Convention 2016! Yours in service,

This is your organization and your convention, and I hope you will find it informational, fun, and inspirational. Please take advantage of all this convention has to offer. District Special Assistant | WELCOME I dare you to think bigger, to act bigger, and to be bigger. I dare you to think creatively. I dare you lead and inspire others ... And I promise you a richer and more exciting life if you do! - Wm. Danforth ( physician & educator) Dear Conventionniers: Welcome to Cirque du Service, the 40th KIWIN’S spectacular. Convention Chair Charissa Nguyen and her committee, supported by Governor Jade Wong and the entire KIWIN’S District Board, have gone above and beyond to make this the best convention ever. I look forward to a great weekend. Students, you have a rare opportunity, here at the Los Angeles Marriott Hotel, to learn to be great leaders while making friends from all areas of California and to discover how to think bigger, to act bigger, and to be bigger. You are among fewer than two percent of all high school students who have this chance, whether through KIWIN’S, ASB, or other leadership groups. Please — please, please, please — take advantage of the weekend. Attend every workshop you can. Caucus. Scream until you’re hoarse. Dance the night away. Go outside of your comfort zone to make new friends. Who knows? One may become your best friend. If you are a delegate, be sure to vote; the future of KIWIN’S is in your hands. And guess what! Whom you meet and what you learn will change your life in ways you can’t begin to imagine...and may not discover for decades. Wow! Who could ask for anything more? Adults, you have a special opportunity, too. Relish the success of our young adults. Help them to get to the next level. Learn from them. After teaching for nearly 50 years, I am still learning from students. I plan to continue doing so. I hope you will begin this journey by attending workshops and all the activities at DCON. We’ve designed programs especially for you on Friday night and Saturday morning. In the end, it is up to the students and adults, who are here this weekend, to take KIWIN’S into the future. Open your hearts and minds to the task ahead. Have a wonderful weekend. Sincerely yours,

Jeffrey Dimsdale 2015-16 KIWIN’S Special Assistant

To Wilson KIWIN’S and Goldstone Division: Thank you for being the best home club and division possible. You have exceeded every expectation and knocked down every single one of your goals. I could not be more proud to come from this amazing division. Thank you for being my second family. To Adult Board: Thank you for all your support throughout this entire year. We couldn’t do half the things we do in this District without all of you. I’m so honored to have worked with you and be able to call you my advisors and mentors. Special shout out to Mr. Bashir for being the best Regional Advisor any division could ask for. You are so amazing and inspire in me a passion for service and dedication to helping others. To Ms. Umbarger: Thank you for always keeping both Mr. Umbarger and me in check. You are so inspirational and I could not have made it through the entire year without your constant words of love and wisdom. You are truly an amazing person with the warmest and kindest heart. To Ms. Dutton: It’s crazy to think that I met you for the first time four years ago at my first DCON and here we are today at my last. You have helped me grow so much as an individual, leader, and person. I truly would not be who I am today without all your guidance and support. You have always supported my aspirations, hopes, and goals and I cannot thank you enough for that. You have been such an amazing role model and as I go into college and the “real world” I will always hold your example as an incredible human being in my heart. To Mr. Umbarger: Thank you for being such an amazing District Administrator. From our first event together back in Atlanta to this very day, you have helped me grow so much as a leader. Your support, mentorship, and advice are things I will carry with me for the rest of my life. To my District Board Ohana <3 Words cannot fully express the love I have developed for each of you over this wonderful year of service. Each of you astound me with your passion, dedication to service, and love for this organization. I can’t believe I have been so blessed to work alongside such amazing individuals to impact not only our local, but also our global communities for the better. You all make me strive to be a better person and leader every day. Even though some of us will be going in separate directions next year, we will always have a special everlasting bond that will connect us for the rest of our lives. Just because we’re far apart, it doesn’t mean that our hearts have to be. I love all of you. Jade Wong

Kiwanis Club of Merced wants Sapphire Division to know: We are Proud of You, Yes We are PROUD OF YOU! (clap, clap) 65

MR. DIMSDALE "This is why I get the big bucks." Mr. Dimsdale, you inspire me to always pursue excellence. You make even the most difficult tasks, like finding empty parking spots in crowded lots, seem so effortless!! Working with you this term was a blessing because I was able to learn so much from your endless fountain of knowledge (and youth). You have helped me instill confidence in myself, feel comfortable in the professional world, and most importantly, selflessly serve our community. I have plans to be like you in the future - I'll join Kiwanis, drink lots of coffee, and change the lives of my own student leaders! I LOVE YOU MR. DIMSDALE! -Tiffany Nguyen wer Thank you so much for all your dedication and time put into KIWIN'S this year. Even though you weren't our official RA you were like Jet's dad and I'm so grateful we had you during the term to guide us through with succinct powerpoints and poignant witticisms. My favorite quote is "Live and Let Live" and for letting us make mistakes and learn on our own along with your guidance, you have been the best resource Jet has had and we are greatly indebted to your service to us. - Kathy Bui “Early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable.” I am sure you are aware of this Mr. Dimsdale, but I am not a very timely person. It was then that you said to me “early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable”. This is one of the many things you have taught me that will stick with me forever. I remember first meeting you when I was only a club secretary. Over the year, I come to find Halena's description about you being a little intimidating at first, but extremely caring and kind once we get to know you true. Even though you weren’t my regional advisor for my term, you have helped me tremendously throughout the year. Part of my success as a leader has come from all the knowledge I’ve gained from our rich conservations and your lessons. You have made a significant impact on my life not only as a leader, but as a human being. and honestly I do not think I would be the same person I am today without you as my advisor. Thank you so much Mr. Dimsdale for all that you have done! I appreciate you a lot and all of the student leaders who get to work you are extremely luck. - Richie Chu “A day is not successful without learning two new things.” I could write on and on about all that I have learned from you, but I will begin with the statement that convention would not be possible without you. You have guided me so much along this journey and I’m forever grateful for that. I really hope that our visualization of Cirque du Service works out as well as your visulaization of parking spots! Thank you for teaching me so many valuable lessons from technology to life and dealing with my quirkiness and my tendency to break phones. I admit that at first I was also intimidated, but after selfies and 8 hour meetings with you at Starbucks, I quickly learned of your humor and your wisdom. I would also like to admit that, like Tiffany, you have inspired me to continue my journey in service into my adult years and hopefully I will be able to help other student leaders just as you have done for me. With you, I learn way more than just two things everyday. I’m jealous of the next Convention Chair because they’re going to get all your time and devotion now. You have become like my second father so thank you. - Charissa Nguyen "Here's a little tip, Carolyn. When you hold coffee, you don't look at the coffee. That way, you don't spill" Thank you Mr. Dimsdale for always being available to answer any questions I have and for giving me wonderful advice such as the above statements! Part of the reason I've grown up to be the type of leader I am today is because of you, so I am forever grateful for all the times you've lectured me and helped me through some of my directives. All your hard work in CNH KIWIN'S does not go unnoticed and we, the students, are forever grateful for all the hours that you devote to the organization. I hope that this term has been wonderful and for another successful upcoming term - Carolyn Le “Let me ask you one question.” Thank you so much for your guidance this year! Your insight has helped me so much in improving the quality of my work. I know that sometimes I didn’t do things quite the way you wanted it, and I had to learn the hard way but making mistakes has helped my improve that much more. Thank you so much forall your help with everything from the program to the script to the powerpoint. Your edits are extremely valuable. Now it’s time for me to ask you one question, how did you become such a great advisor? - Kevin Son
