The Tribe staff’s seniors learned lessons from high school and Tribe that will follow them into the future

by erica song

“Triangle has taught me many things. One of the best things I’ve learned is how to prioritize my time to finish work before deadlines.” abby bodart

“I have learned how to persist through uncomfortable situations and work well with others in order to reach my goals.” addie watts

“The most valuable experience I had was when I was in my Union Civil War outfit and had fun with my friend, [making] them pull me behind them with my house shoes on my boots and sliding down the halls on [our] lunch break.” alex marsh

“Throughout high school and my time on Tribe, I have learned to not take anything for granted. Catch every opportunity you are given and run with it. You never know when your time will be cut short, so don’t waste a single second of it.” coral roberts “I’ve learned the art of improvising. When things don’t go according to plan, it’s good to be able to get creative in finding an alternative solution in order to accomplish a task. ” matt ruehman “My most valuable experience was every single day I spent in Tribe where I found my purpose and my passion and where I did the most important work I’ve ever done. I learned the value of what we do as journalists. It’s only in that classroom that I felt most like myself and felt like I mattered the most.” salomé cloteaux “I learned that growth is necessary. At the start of my freshman year, I was not who I wanted to be. I had to work on myself and learn what was important to me and how to pick my battles. Growth means change, and although change can be scary it’s what brings us even more opportunity to be a better person and love more wholesomely than we did before. It’s [okay] to admit mistakes and acknowledge the bad in ourselves, but it’s what we do with those flaws that makes us who we are.” anna kelley

“I learned to work with others and to ask questions when you don’t understand something. There is always someone there to help!” cheyenne peters

“I’ve learned the true meaning of working for what you want through communicating. One of the editors-in-chief, Suzanne, from the 20182019 Tribe year taught me to value that. ” paola fernandez

“I have learned that it’s important to take one day at a time. Do what you can in the moment, and don’t worry about things you have no power over.” hallie schwartzkopf “The most important thing I’ve learned is to take advantage of opportunities and be okay with slowing down. For instance, while it may seem scary to approach someone new, it’s important to step out of your comfort zone. Additionally, I learned that it’s okay to not always reach the initial goal you had in mind and to slow down and adapt to unexpected circumstances.” karla perez gonzalez “Throughout high school, I have learned many lessons, but the most important and memorable ones have stemmed from the journalism room. Journalism is where I found myself and motivation to come to school everyday. I joined a staff my sophomore year. and by my senior year I was spending five class periods a day in the space I loved. My lesson was to try new things because you never know when or where you will find your passion.” hailey andis “My high school experiences have really taught me to work towards my goal regardless of the challenges, but to enjoy all the small parts of the journey too. Tribe especially embodies this lesson since every magazine issue results from meeting many goals, but more importantly, I loved learning about people’s unique stories along the way.” erica song

Worldwide, more than 5.6 million cases have been confirmed. The coronavirus has shut down businesses, closed schools, banned sports and isolated families globally.
