I, Chelsey Johnson, have compiled a portfolio of art designed to create a personal experience for you, the viewer. Each piece provides you with a background while explaining the design process. All art involves a process and tells a story, which is why I believe I have chosen the best field to study as a career. Since photography sparked my love for art and design, it will always continue as a passion of mine. I also have a strange appetite for math and programming and believe that interest sets me apart as a designer. Regardless, my love for design continues to grow each day as I see the importance of effective design - whether it is on screen or in print.

ABOUT THE PIECE A local non-profit organization, Ema Ministires, was in need of a brand redesign. This organization reaches out to single mothers in the community; therefore, I wanted to create a branding that would reflect their services. After some brainstorming and several sketches, I chose three different logos to mock up in Illustrator. From that point, I chose the one I felt would best fit with the organization. I then correlated the look and feel of the logo into a business card, letterhead and envelope.

ABOUT THE PIECE After creating their branding, Ema Ministries was in need of some advertising materials. They wanted a three-piece set that would focus on the needs of a child raised by a single mother. After thinking of a tagline that could be incorporated into three different ads, I searched for photos that would fit the idea. These photos were edited in Photoshop with the rest of the layout created in InDesign.

ABOUT THE PIECE This poster was created when a friend of mine needed an advertisement poster to raise awareness for the casting calls that were being held for her movie. The client desired a cool, dreary, clean and simple design that would also incorporate all the necessary information. The client also needed the final design within 48 hours, cutting the normal design process in half. After sketching some quick thumbnails, I narrowed my ideas into two rough drafts then placed them into Illustrator to digitize the poster. After some quick feedback from the client, I finalized the piece and gave the files to the client within the designated deadline.The client was very pleased as the poster matched his desired look and feel of the piece.

ABOUT THE PIECE As a Graphic Design student, my relatives and friends constantly ask for me to design certain elements for their companies. This branding set was created to revamp my mothers company’s look. As a florist, she wanted bright colors that would fit her character and her company’s vivid energy. After some brainstorming and rough drafts, I composited a logo that fit her personality and desired look of her company. I then designed the letterhead, business card and envelope based of the color scheme of the logo.

ABOUT THE PIECE For my internship at HIS Ministries, I was asked to create a brochure for one of their sub-ministries, HIS Vision. At first, I was instructed to create a brochure that stood out and was completely different than the regular tri-fold brochure. After creating my initial design, my supervisor informed me it would be too expensive to print this specific design. She suggested a bi-fold brochure, and I took it from there to create the final piece.

ABOUT THE PIECE For my internship at AG Design, I was asked to create a wireframe for a web application called Address Vine. I was given some data files in Excell and was asked to create wireframes based on the data. Using Photoshop, I developed two rounds of wireframes, finishing the final piece that came together as my supervisor desired. After finishing the wireframes, I decided to finish out the design by incorporating colors and other aspects to complete this project. I was inspired by the look and feel of Apple’s new IOS7 design and decided to place that into this design.

ABOUT THE PIECE At AG Design, I was asked to create a website design for IBA Law Corporation. The client, based out of Newport Beach in California, desired to have pictures that demonstrated the look and feel of Newport Beach. The creative process started with a search of images taken of Newport Beach. After finding strong photos, I created two different layouts that would best compliment the look and feel of a Newport Beach law corporation. The client was pleased with the options available and chose to go with one of my designs for their website.

ABOUT THE PIECE Star One Network, a career consulting corporation in Union City, California, was in need of a new website. After researching their competitors’ websites, I created three different designs that would best fit their company. From these three drafts, the client chose the design they liked best. Next, I finalized the design, ensuring a cohesive look that would satisfy the client.

ABOUT THE PIECE This drawing was created as an assignment for my Introduction to Drawing class. The assignment focused on our use of shadows and understanding of folds and curves within the hanging tablecloths. Charcoal and heavy drawing paper were utilized to develop this piece.

ABOUT THE PIECE For my last assignment in my Introduction to Drawing class, I was required to draw an oversized portrait of myself. This was my first time drawing a portrait and desired to put in the extra hours to make it look perfect.The final piece surpassed my own expectations, surprising myself with my artistic capabilities.
