A History of Innovation A relentless passion for finding new ways to keep people and property safe is in our DNA.
In 1819, James Boyd began manufacturing fire hose in Boston, Massachusetts. Two years later his first patent—for the rubberlined fire hose—revolutionized firefighting by making it possible to pump water through hose, rather than draw it by suction. At the time, the Mayor of Boston reported that 100 feet of Boyd’s fire hose would do the same work as 60 men—and do it more efficiently, faster and safer.
In the 1920’s, Boyd’s company changed its name to National Foam and began developing firefighting foams and delivery systems. In the years since, nearly every major fire department in the U.S., the United States Armed Forces and tens of thousands of corporate firefighting teams have trusted National Foam to help them save countless lives and billions of dollars in property.
Much in the world has changed in the 200 years since James Boyd’s vision for more effective fire control began to take shape. His company, however, carried on his legacy of innovation. Today, National Foam is the acknowledged world leader in foam firefighting, claiming the most patents of any company in the industry.

Nozzles National Foam engineers foam nozzles that maximize mobility and firefighting capability.
Whether used alone or in conjunction with external proportioning systems, National Foam’s nozzles are engineered to precisely deliver foam wherever a water supply is available. Our trademark air aspirating design produces superior foam with all foam types, resulting in increased expansion and longer drainage times as compared to non-aspirating nozzles. National Foam’s comprehensive line of nozzles are available for use in fixed, portable, remote and handheld applications. Resistant to corrosion and extremely durable, these nozzles prove that you can have it all: exceptional range, excellent foam quality and proven stream performance.
Foam Proportioning Designed to introduce foam into firewater at the correct rate, National Foam manufactures a complete line of foam proportioners
Line Proportioners
Bladder Tanks
National Foam Line Proportioners are venturi devices that use fire water to create a vacuum inside the device that pulls foam concentrate into the water stream. When properly matched with a discharge device and, with no moving parts, line proportioners are the simplest and most inexpensive means of generating foam solution. They are available in either fixed or portable versions in a large variety of capacities.
Bladder tanks are pressure vessels that hold foam concentrate in a rubberbased compound bag inside the tank. When charged with fire main pressure, the bag squeezes the foam, forcing it into the foam inlet connection on a ratio controller. National Foam bladder tanks are manufactured in both vertical and horizontal configurations.
Ratio Controllers Manufactured from precision machined brass castings, National Foam ratio controllers provide consistent proportioning over a wide range of flows. National Foam ratio controllers are available in many sizes in either flanged or wafer styles.
Proportioning Skids National Foam manufactures fixed proportioning system skids using either balanced pressure or in-line balanced pressure based designs. The skid utilizes positive displacement pumps. Multiple
pumps can be combined on the same skid using a combination of drivers. Use of several ratio controllers allows for broad flow ranges.
Self-Inducting Nozzles Included in proportioning methods are self-inducting nozzles. These National Foam nozzles are capable of proportioning foam concentrate immediately at the nozzle using a pick-up tube inserted into a foam pail or drum.
Mobile Equipment Proportioning National Foam offers the worldrenowned Servo Command System and Feecon around-the-pump proportioning systems for mobile equipment.
9
Servo Command Foam Proportioning System Servo Command is a true on-demand foam system that automatically balances and proportions foam concentrate in order to consistently deliver foam regardless of environmental conditions. Capable of proportioning foam solution at rates from zero to six percent regardless of pressure and flow variations, the Servo Command module utilizes a variable speed hydrostatic drive system to accurately balance the foam concentrate pressure to the water pressure, delivering only the amount of foam concentrate required to meet the demand. For maximum reliability and ease of maintenance, control of the foam system is
10
totally mechanical—eliminating the need for fragile electrical or electronic components to activate and control the system. Available in single and dual-stage centrifugal pump configurations, the Servo Command Foam Proportioning System can produce up to 3,000 gpm and is available with side or top-mounted controls, and aerial or monitor discharge piping.
Servo Command Kits For Mobile Equipment builders who prefer to install a Servo Command System that is integral to their own truck, National Foam offers the system in kit form. The kit will include proportioners and metering valves for each size discharge on the vehicle including forward, rear, and deck gun discharges. The foam pump is sized to provide the proportioning required to match the capacity of the fire pump and comes complete with all of the necessary hydraulic components needed for a complete system.
Big Flow High Capacity Mobile Foam Systems National Foam’s Big Flow Systems are innovative, transportable pumping systems which deliver fresh or seawater and foam at extraordinary rates, capacity and output.
Neptune Pumping System
Triton Pumping System
Dominator Pumping System
The Neptune Pumping System is an innovative, integrated, transportable pumping module capable of pumping water at 3,000 -10,000gpm. Neptune integrates two floating satellite pumps that supply water to a main pump from distances up to 150’. The satellite pumps provide up to 50’ of vertical lift inclusive of 150’ total distance. This feature allows greater access to more water sources when compared to standard suction lift pumps which are typically limited to 20’ horizontal and 10’ vertical.
The Triton Pumping System is a high capacity mobile, floating pump system that feeds 3,000 -10,000gpm of water to any remote pumps at positive pressure. Triton eliminates the need to pump from draft and makes previously unreachable water source viable choices, and dramatically increases the area in which primary pumps can be deployed and operated. The system is identical to the satellite system used on the Neptune.
The Dominator pumping system is a powerful yet portable unit capable of pumping 3000-10,000gpm of water in draft or relay service. Dominator pumps are perfect as stand-alone units or as complimentary boost pumps for relaying water supplied by either Neptune or Triton units. Using its large diameter inlet and discharge connections, Dominators in relay pumping service can supply large volumes of water for many miles. Dominator’s high discharge pressure effectively shoots water and foam great distances through monitors for fighting large hazard fires.
