This year Skills celebrates its 100th anniversary and I couldn’t be more proud Inside this brochure you will discover a selection of our short to still be apart of the business, which breaks and holidays from April right through until December was founded by my Grandfather in 1919. both within the UK and Continental Europe. Our Heritage: Skills Timeline 1919
Arthur Skill started work delivering fish but later started taking local miners to and from Bestwood Colliery.
1921
Mr Skill purchased his first ‘proper bus’, an ex-War Department ambulance fitted with a 14-seater charabanc body.
1927
Skills began operating a seasonal Saturday express service to Bridlington and Scarborough. Eventually, Skills started a service to Filey and Whitby (Destinations that are still popular today)!
1928
Arthur aquired a large site in St Peter’s Street to use as a garage for his fleet. He only had 8 vehicles but it showed his initiative and by 1939 there were 24 coaches!
1945
New and longer holiday excursions were introduced, giving customers more choice.
1970’s
Skills introduced shopping trips to France. This developed into Continental touring on a regular basis to Austria, Holland, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
1987
Nigel Skill and brother, Simon Skill brought the company to become Managing Directors.
1993
Skills bought Midland Travel, this would later be known as CoachStyle!
2002
The company moved to a purpose built site in Bulwell.
2014
The company aquired Laver Holidays, who join their Holiday Brands
2017
Our Independent Travel Agencies are re-launched as ABTA Travel Agents. They can now act as your local travel agent and book your a holiday anywhere in the world!
2018
Skills aquired Lowes Coaches and Golden Holidays

This is at the manager’s discretion, and can be confirmed to you at the time of booking. Timings will no longer be advised at the time of booking, instead pick-up times will be confirmed in writing to you approximately 2 weeks prior to your departure.
DOOR-TO-DOOR SERVICE
We want to make sure your journey is as comfortable as possible, from start to finish. That’s why we can arrange for a local taxi service to collect you from your home and take you to the nearest pick-up point, where the coach will be waiting*. *Additional charges apply unless stated on the itinerary. Prices quoted are return journeys. We reserve the right to pick-up additional passengers on route and may substitute another vehicle if appropriate. Taxi pick-ups must be booked and paid for no less than 28 days prior to departure. Taxi’s which are used on a Bank Holiday will incur a 25% increase per person.
PARK & RIDE SERVICE
We’re improving our Park & Ride service on selected holidays and moving to Toton Tram Stop (Nottingham NG9 6JX), this will make your interchange much smoother and will mean your holiday can start as soon as you step on-board!
TRAM & RIDE SERVICE
Thanks to a great partnership with the NET Tram Network, we can now offer Toton Tram stop as a pick-up point for all of our passengers (on selected breaks). PLUS if you have a Concession Pass you can travel for FREE* So if you don’t drive, or you don’t want to leave your car overnight, it’s easier to catch your nearest Tram and meet the holiday coach at Toton Tram Stop! *If you live in Nottingham/Nottinghamshire or £2.50 return if you dont.
FEEDER SERVICE At times we will use a FREE feeder to transport you to the nearest pick-up location, this could be a coach, mini-bus, car or a taxi and may be shared with other passenger. This is to save time and ensures that no one is waiting too long to begin their holiday!
Spaces are limited to a first come first serve basis. Confirmation for this service must be made at the time of your booking and your pick-up time will be advised approximately 2 weeks prior to departure. Parking is at your own risk. Skills Holidays will not accept responsibility for any damage, accidents or losses.
When booking a holiday with us you may be asked to provide us with a contact telephone number, this is just in case we need to contact you during your trip. You may also be asked to provide a Next of Kin contact telephone number, this is in case of any emergencies. We will only use these numbers for legitimate reasons and in line with the current GDPR legislation.
