faq’s our frequently asked questions are here to assist you before travel Our friendly reservations advisors are often asked a variety of questions from customers prior to travel...listed below are some of the most frequently asked questions. 1) What documentation do I need to travel and will I be sent tickets?
9) How much luggage can I take?
You can travel on your confirmation issued upon final balance payment. If your tour includes tickets i.e. event admissions they will be passed to you by your tour driver on the day of the event.
One medium-sized suitcase per person (15kg). If you are travelling on a Continental tour we recommend that you bring an additional overnight bag with you. We do provide luggage labels so that your luggage can be quickly and clearly identified.
2) I’ve lost my holiday confirmation. How do I get a replacement?
10) Am I able to bring my wheelchair or mobility scooter?
Call one of our friendly travel advisors on 0115 9770080 who will be happy to re-issue your documentation.
Due to limited space we can only permit two wheelchairs or one wheelchair and a lightweight (15kg or less) mobility scooter per coach. Collapsible walking frames are included in this limitation. You must reserve a space at the time of booking and this will be confirmed in correspondence. We reserve the right to not carry wheelchairs or mobility scooters that are not booked in advance. N.B. Our driver is not able to assist with the loading of scooters.
3) Will you send me a reminder of when my balance is due? No. It is your responsibility to make sure your payment is made on time. Failing to do so may result in your booking being cancelled. 4) Who do I make my cheque payable to? Please make cheques payable to ‘Skills Holidays’. 5) If I make changes to my holiday will I be charged? Yes. We charge an administration fee for any amendments made to your booking, please see Section 19 of our Trading Charter for full details. 6) Is it compulsory to take travel insurance? It is a condition of booking that you have valid travel insurance. If you do not currently have a travel insurance policy, we do offer fully comprehensive policies (including cancellation cover), for all of our UK, Ireland and Continental Tours, starting from only £15 per person. 7) Why do I have to pay a single supplement? Many of the hotels we use charge a supplement for single rooms or double rooms used for sole occupancy. Unfortunately, this is standard practice within the hotel industry. We do offer a selection of holidays which do not carry a single supplement charge; early booking is highly recommended. 8) Can I reserve a seat on the coach? Yes. At the time of booking you will be advised on the availability of seating. You can pick your seat, which will be allocated to you throughout the duration of your holiday.* * Please note seat numbers do not apply on shuttle or feeder services. Please see T&C’s.
11) Will there be a toilet on the coach and will there be comfort stops? Most of our coaches have toilet facilities (please see trading policy for more details page 96 and 97). On most of our tours there will be a comfort stop dependent on the time and distance travelled. Every 2-3 hours; your tour driver will be able to offer assistance. 12) Can I be picked up from my home? Yes. We offer a door to door taxi service which incurs an additional cost. See page 6 for more information. 13) Can I make requests to the hotel? Yes. We will take any requests at the time of booking and pass these onto the accommodation providers who try their best to grant any special requests. Please note that special requests cannot be guaranteed. All dietary/special needs requirements must be specified at the time of booking so that the necessary arrangements can be made. 14) Do I need a passport? A full British passport with 6 months validity from the departure date is required for Continental Europe. For holidays to Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, you are required to bring valid photo ID (such as a driver’s licence, passport or bus pass).

In this Trading Charter, “we”, “us” and “our” are references to Skills Motor Coaches Ltd, trading as Skills Holidays or Skills Travel Ltd, trading as Coachstyle, (whichever is appropriate).
trading charter 1. Seating Plans A seating plan is held for each holiday. Requests for particular coach seats can be made at the time of booking on most coach holidays although subject to availability. Allocated seats are kept throughout the holiday except on shuttle coaches, where no seat allocation is made. Please note that we cannot accept bookings which are conditional on the provision of specific seats. Although we will do what we reasonably can to conform to the seating plans shown and to provide the seat numbers booked by customers this may not always be possible. Occasionally we use coaches with a different seating plan and the seat position may alter. We reserve the right to change the allocated seat and we are unable to guarantee that all members of the party can be allocated seats together. Passengers under the age of 15 are not permitted to travel in the front seats. We reserve the right to use Midi or Standard (no toilet facilities) coaches on any tour/day trip rather than having to cancel the trip if this is necessary for operational reasons (breakdown, availability etc.). We endeavour to inform all passengers of seat changes beforehand where possible. On occasions, to meet demand, some Shuttle services and holidays are operated by vehicles other than those owned by us and the specification may be different from that detailed in our brochure and website. Where Shuttle services are used tour seat numbers are not valid. Shuttle vehicles may not have toilets, reclining seats, air-conditioning or drinks facilities. Premium Seats are available at a supplement on selected continental tours for more information request on booking. Please note premier seats are not available on Skills Coachstyle. 2. Seat Belts and Restraints All passengers over the age of 14 must use a seat belt where one is available. Although UK law does not currently require children under the age of 14 to use the seatbelts in a coach we strongly recommend that they do so. Children who have not yet reached either the age of 12 years or the height of 135 cm must use a suitable child restraint. Lap belts, may not be suitable for your child’s usual restraint, and it is the parent or guardian’s responsibility to provide a suitable child restraint. A child restraint used by a child passenger on the journey is not included in the passenger’s luggage allowance. An adult with an infant on the lap may not sit in a front seat, and for safety reasons we advise that if an infant under the age of 2 travels on an adult’s lap any seat belt should be fitted around the adult and not the infant. Shuttle journeys may be by minibus, in which case all passengers must use the seatbelts and children who have not yet reached either the age of 12 years or the height of 135 cm must use a suitable child restraint. It is the parent or guardian’s responsibility to provide a suitable child restraint. On journeys abroad, local law on seatbelts may differ from that in the United Kingdom, and you must comply with the relevant local law. French Law requires all children on a coach to use a suitably-fitted child restraint. Accordingly on all journeys to the Continent it is the obligation of the parent or guardian to provide a suitable child restraint that can be fitted to the belts available on the coach. 3. DVT & Coach Travel Medical research has shown that DVT may be associated with any form of long distance travel whether by air, car, coach or train. We therefore recommend that you consult a doctor if you have: • Ever had DVT or pulmonary embolism • A family history of clotting conditions • An inherited tendency to clot • Cancer, or have had treatment for cancer in the past • Undergone major surgery within the last three months • Ever suffered from a stroke, heart or lung disease 4. Joining Points and Taxis For full details on our joining points and other travel options please refer to page 6 of this brochure. 5. Overseas Crossings Overseas Crossings will be detailed on the applicable pages in this brochure; however, we reserve the right to change any crossing in the event of adverse weather, industrial action or any other unforeseen circumstances that may arise.

6. Luggage Passengers must keep luggage to a medium sized suitcase weighing no heavier than 15kg. In addition a small hold-all may also be taken on the coach. We reserve the right to refuse to carry any passengers whose luggage exceeds those limits and you will be asked to remove excess weight. Please note that at some hotels, particularly on the Continent, porterage is not always available between the coach and the hotel. It is unlikely that luggage or personal belongings will be covered by your insurance if left unattended or in an empty vehicle overnight. It is your responsibility to ensure that your luggage and belongings are loaded on to the coach on which you are travelling, especially at ports, interchange points and on leaving the hotels. You should ensure that the luggage label provided by us is correctly filled in and is securely attached to your suitcase. We accept no responsibility if you leave or lose your luggage or your luggage gets lost or damaged in transit for any reason. Valuables and medication should not be placed in the hold but kept on your person at all times. Any items of lost property found on our coaches will be handed into our office as soon possible and are then available for collection. We cannot, however, accept responsibility for any items of lost property left on our holiday coaches. 7. Hotel Accommodation Accommodation throughout the UK and Europe varies and our range of hotels includes everything from 5 star establishments to family-run hotels. We try to ensure that your holiday accommodation will be of an acceptable standard and every effort will be made to provide precisely the kind of room you have booked. (A) Hotel Grading Hotel grading and classification systems vary so widely throughout the UK and Europe that they do not represent a consistent method of comparing accommodation standards from one country to another. We advise you to look upon them merely as a general guide. The absence of a rating simply means that this particular hotel is not a member of any particular grading body – it does not necessarily mean that the hotel is of a lower standard. (B) Additional Facilities Our liability for the provision of additional facilities for which a supplement has been paid is limited to the published price of that supplement. Rooms with en suite facilities will include EITHER bath and WC OR shower and WC. Where you specify a preference for either a bath and WC or a shower and WC we will make all reasonable efforts to accommodate your request, but we cannot guarantee your preference will be met. (C) Room Type When booking a double room you should clearly request either a double bed or twin beds, otherwise we shall assume that either is acceptable. We will try to meet your request but cannot guarantee this. Please note that many hotels in Europe have a majority of twin bedded rooms. In some hotels, particularly in Europe, a twin-bedded room may have a single king-size base with two mattresses or may constitute a double bed plus a sofa bed, each with its own bed linen. Three and four bedded rooms are normally twins or doubles with extra beds which are not suitable for adults and space will be limited. The room description shown on your holiday confirmation refers to your main holiday hotel. Overnight hotels may offer different room types. (D) Single Rooms Single rooms are always in short supply and early booking is advised. Occasionally, a double or twin room may be provided at the hotel’s discretion however, the payment of a single room supplement does not imply that any room allocated will be anything other than a single room. Supplements for single travellers are charged by the hotel and not by us.
10. Children Our European and Irish holidays are not normally suitable for young children and we cannot accept bookings for those holidays for children who will be under the age of 8 years at the end of the tour. For all other tours please contact our reservations team so that we can assess if your chosen tour is suitable for children. If we agree to take children who will be between the ages of 2-13yrs inclusive at the end of the tour we will offer a discount of 10%, unless a different pricing structure is shown on the appropriate page. Child prices are only applicable when sharing a room with two full-fare paying passengers. It is in our absolute discretion as to whether an infant under the age of 2 on the date of return will be accepted as a passenger for United Kingdom holidays. A charge of £25 is payable for infants under the age of 2, if they are accepted as passengers. Infants under the age of 2 remain the responsibility of the parent/guardian at all times and must sit on their lap whilst on board the coach. You must give us the full names and dates of birth of all children who will be travelling with you (including infants under the age of 2) when you book and we reserve the right to require proof of the date of birth (e.g. a passport or birth certificate). 11. Behaviour If you or a member of your party breaches the terms of this Trading Charter or is persistently disruptive or seriously affects the enjoyment of other holidaymakers, we have the right to terminate the contract. Offensive or illegal behaviour will not be tolerated in any way. If boarding on the out bound journey is refused due to your behaviour or conduct 100% cancellation charges will apply. If the refusal is at any later stage we have the right to terminate the contract and you will not be liable for a refund. In such circumstances we will have no further obligations or liability to the person who is not allowed to board. If you are disruptive during the journey, the coach driver may have to divert to off load you. In those circumstances you will also be liable to us for the costs incurred by the diversion. Furthermore, for the comfort and enjoyment of other passengers we request you refrain from:(a) Bringing a pet, livestock or any other animal (b) Playing a radio or a personal music player on a coach (without headphones) (c) Smoking at any time on our coaches (d) Bringing alcohol onto the coach for the purpose of consumption of it on the coach We would also ask you to consider other passengers and refrain from using mobile phones on the coach except in an emergency. 12. Air Conditioning Wherever possible air conditioned coaches will be provided on the majority of our tours (Skills Coachstyle excluded). However provision of this facility does not form part of our contract or conditions of carriage and subsequently, in the event of there being a defect in the coach air conditioning or indeed none being provided, no compensation is payable. 13. Brochure Photography & Production Much of the photography used in this brochure has been supplied by various Tourist Boards, Wholesalers, Stock Image sites or directly provided courtesy of the tourism facility attraction and we thank them for their assistance. It should not be implied that any particular holiday itinerary includes places or attractions featured in photographic material on any brochure page.
(E) Overnight Hotels In the best interests of our customers, it may sometimes be necessary or desirable to change the location of overnight hotel stops. We reserve the right to make such a change without notice. It may be difficult for some hotels to fulfil special dietary requirements. If in doubt please contact a Skills representative who will take all reasonable measures to ascertain the position at the hotel. Any resulting additional charges will be incurred by the passenger. (F) Special Request All special needs and requests MUST be advised to us at the time of booking and should be followed up in writing. This will be passed to the relevant hotelier where reasonable steps will be made to accommodate, however, special requests cannot be guaranteed. Where extra charges are applicable we will endeavour to advise prior to departure. Our liability for the provision of extra facilities for which a supplement is paid is limited to the brochure price of that supplement. 8. Hotel Amenities All the amenities described on the appropriate brochure page will normally be available. However, some amenities (lifts, swimming pools etc.) may occasionally require servicing or cleaning and therefore we cannot guarantee that they will always be available. Unless otherwise indicated in the brochure, certain amenities may incur an additional charge. Entertainment provided by hotels is frequently subject to demand and the type or frequency may be varied if there is a lack of demand or insufficient numbers staying at the hotel. In many hotels you may be asked to share a table in the restaurant with other guests. If a hotel has lifts, these are described as serving some, most, or all floors or rooms. Many hotel buildings are historical rather than purpose-built and therefore there may also be some steps on a floor served by a lift which lead to or from public rooms. Most UK hotels include tea or coffee making facilities in the bedrooms, but in Continental Europe it is not normally the custom to have these. Where this facility is provided there may be a charge for additional beverage supplies. 9. Disabled Clients We try our best to provide holidays which all our customers can enjoy, but we do recognise that not all our holidays will be entirely suitable for people with disabilities, poor mobility or special needs. Some coach tours, for example, involve a great deal of travelling and changes of hotel and it may not be possible for our driver(s) to provide a sufficient level of care, particularly in cases of mobility problems. Each passenger who has a disability should: a) be accompanied by a companion who is able to provide assistance if required; and, b) be able to negotiate the 5 steps when boarding/exiting the coach. We are pleased to carry your folding wheelchairs/lightweight mobility scooter in the luggage compartment of our tour coaches however; we regret that due to space limitations we can only accommodate either 2 wheelchairs or 1 wheelchair and 1 lightweight folding dry cell mobility scooter (weight not exceeding 15kgs). Space must be reserved at the time of booking and this will be confirmed to you on our correspondence. We reserve the right not to carry wheelchairs or mobility scooters that are not pre-booked.

Should the price of your holiday go down due to the changes mentioned above by more than 2% of your holiday cost, then any refund due will be paid to you. Please note: The packages are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the price of your package due to contractual and other protection in place. If your travel arrangements include overseas travel its price was calculated using exchange rates quoted in the “Financial Times Market Data” (BBC Market Data) on 17th December 2014. Euros 1.25 = £1 18. Gratuities Gratuities to hotel staff and driver/couriers are discretionary. On itineraries featuring a Cruise and Maritime vessel an automatic tipping system has been adopted. Cancellation charges are normally refundable by our insurers, subject to the reason for the cancellation falling within the terms of their cover. Please note that any insurance claim is subject to excess charges and these will be deducted from any settlement. See your policy for details or request sight of a policy at your nearest Skills Holidays office. Should you be able to ‘substitute’ another person in your place then there is just an administration fee to pay and all monies previously paid are deemed to have come from the new passenger (see next paragraph). 21. Changes by Us The arrangements for your holiday are likely to have been made many months in advance and changes are sometimes unavoidable. Most of these changes are likely to be minor and we reserve the right to make minor changes to the holiday if we consider it reasonably necessary. We will do our best to keep you informed and try to keep inconvenience to a minimum. A ‘significant change’ is one that involves changing your departure date; resort area; or reducing the quality of your main hotel. Changes of the hotel en-route to the main destination are considered minor changes. We also reserve the right to amend pick up times if necessary and will only do so in consideration of the overall enjoyment of our customers. (A) Changes before departure (i) If we have to make a significant change to your holiday after you have booked, we may offer you a replacement holiday of similar duration and value. Should the alternative offered be greater in value we will offer this to you at no additional cost, should the value be lower a refund of the difference will be issued. If you choose not to accept the alternative offered we will refund all monies paid to us, however, no further compensation will be considered. In the event where no alternative can be offered you will receive a full refund of all monies paid. No further compensation will be considered. (ii) If you decide to travel on an alternative tour of your choice, you will be expected to pay any additional costs/ difference in cost. (iii) Once we have notified you of the change or cancellation and the options available, you must notify us as soon as possible of your decision. (iv) If you decide to continue with a holiday despite a significant change we will compensate you on the following scale. Period before departure Amount you will receive within which notice of from us major change is received by us or notified to you More than 42 days .....................................................................................................NIL 42- 29 days........................................................................ 2% of the basic holiday cost 28-15 days......................................................................... 5% of the basic holiday cost Less than 14 days............................................................ 10% of the basic holiday cost IMPORTANT - compensation payments do not apply to changes caused by reasons of war; riots; civil strife; terrorist activity; industrial disputes; natural or nuclear disasters; fire; epidemic or health risk; technical problems to transport; port or airport closures; adverse weather conditions and similar events beyond our control (‘force majeure events’). Period before departure within which a significant change is notified. No other claims for compensation or expenses in relation to changes by us to your holiday will be considered. (B) Changes after departure. If after departure a significant proportion of your holiday cannot be provided we will make suitable alternative arrangements for you to continue the holiday at no extra cost to you. If it is impossible to make alternative arrangements or you have reasonable grounds for refusing the alternative offered we will transport you back to your point of departure or another place agreed to by you. (C) Compensation for other changes to your holiday made by us. If we are liable to pay compensation to you in a case not specifically covered by sections (a) and (b) above we limit our maximum liability to the lower of:(i). Any limit of liability specified by any international conventions which govern the services we provide to you. (ii). The cost of the holiday. We accept responsibility for ensuring that all component parts of your holiday, as described in this brochure are supplied to you to a reasonable standard. If any such part is not provided in the advertised manner, we will pay you reasonable compensation unless the non-provision was due to circumstances which we could not predict and which were beyond our control, such as adverse weather, road or traffic conditions or the force majeure events as defined in the paragraph above. 22. Excursions & Routings The itinerary for your chosen holiday is summarised on the appropriate brochure page. To help you in planning your holiday, excursions costs are clearly shown in the brochure if applicable. Minor changes to the brochure itinerary and the final itinerary will not entitle you to compensation, as detailed in section 21. Unless otherwise stated, excursions to cities and other major places of interest do not include guided tours or entrance fees to places of interest. Refunds will not be made for excursions not taken. We reserve the right to return home earlier than stated in the itinerary due to unforeseen circumstances, or operational reasons, without prior notice. Routes shown in this brochure may have to be changed on occasion due to traffic/sea conditions or for other reasons and in consequence it may not be possible to pass through all the places mentioned in an itinerary. Furthermore stops can only be made at a limited number of places according to the time available. Some excursion itineraries include the use of ferries and other forms of transport, which can be affected by inclement weather and may have to be cancelled or postponed, and if so we will try to provide a suitable alternative. Published running times of services are estimates which may be affected by circumstances outside our control. We reserve the right to change excursions or itineraries without notice when appropriate for operational reasons without compensation. There are excursions where we may be delayed due to circumstances beyond our control e.g. Traffic congestion, ferry delays, etc. We cannot accept liability for these delays howsoever caused. 23. Complaints Procedure The driver/courier or representative on your holiday is there to deal with any queries or problems that you may encounter. If you have a problem during your holiday, you MUST inform them immediately. In most cases these difficulties can be rectified on the spot. If they are unable to resolve the problem to your satisfaction you should complete a Holiday Report Form which is available from your tour driver and return it to us with a covering letter, supporting evidence and adequate information in which your complaint can be investigated, within 28 days of the completion of your holiday. Correspondence should be addressed to, Skills Holidays/Coachstyle, Belgrave Road, Nottingham, NG6 8LY and include your booking reference number, holiday destination and departure date. All complaints must be submitted in writing. Failure to establish your complaint immediately in accordance with this procedure may affect the outcome. Any telephone complaints raised MUST be followed up by a formal complaint in writing. We aim to resolve all complaints ourselves but if this is not possible your complaint can be considered by the county court.

We reserve the right to move your vehicle within the car park, by driving or otherwise, to such extent as it is reasonably necessary for the purposes of safety to persons or property to avoid obstruction or for the more efficient arrangement of its parking facilities. We reserve the right to refuse entry to the car park and the use of its facilities as we see fit. Parking spaces on site are limited and are available to customers on a first come, first serve basis. Your booking confirmation confirming your departure point will be sent to you or your agent after we have received your deposit payment. Certain travel documents may have to be retained by us and your driver/courier will then issue them to you at the relevant time. If you lose any of your travel documents we will replace these for an administration charge of £10 All itineraries stated in our publications are for guideline purposes only and we reserve the right to change any itinerary as we see fit. The driver of a tour may change that tour’s itinerary after giving due regard to weather conditions, attraction availability and any other circumstances arising during the tour.
