IROCK Introduces RDS-20 Mobile Crusher

Design Improves Efficiency, Quality

OAKWOOD VILLAGE, Ohio – IROCK, a leading manufacturer of screening and crushing equipment, has introduced the RDS-20 Primary Crushing Plant. As the name suggests, the RDS – rapid deployment system – provides exceptional portability and rapid set-up time. The RDS-20 is a highly portable, easy to operate mobile unit. It combines a closed circuit design, high-performance four-bar impactor and heavyduty components for reliability, increased efficiency and the precision to produce a uniform, cubical product. It also is versatile enough for use across multiple industries and can process a variety of materials, including quarry rock, demolition debris, recyclable materials and base rock for oil fields.

The machine features a 5- by 16-foot, double-deck screen. It has the ability to crush, screen and separate up to three different sizes of materials, two sized and one crusher run, at a rate of up to 500 tons per hour (TPH). The initial vibrating feed opening is 52 inches by 17 feet, while the crusher feed opening is 56 by 32 inches. The equipment’s closed-circuit design allows both decks of oversized material to return to the feeder for another pass through the crusher after the initial round of screening. This allows for 20 percent greater production than competitors’ machines. In addition, with on-board power supplying full plant operation, the entire process is self-contained. The crusher is powered by a 440-horsepower Caterpillar® C-13 ACERT Tier 3 engine. The RDS-20 can also be supplied with a Tier 4 engine. Performance and production are further enhanced by IROCK’s four-bar impactor design. The RDS20 provides the ideal balance inside the crushing chamber to optimize production and ease uneven wear on the impact bars. A heavy-duty, two-step ta-

pered grizzly removes fines and allows only large materials into the crusher. Hydraulically adjustable aprons allow for ease of adjustment and better control over sizing, while three optional auxiliary conveyors sort and stack processed materials. PRODUCT NEWS JOY Advanced Shearer Automation Optimizes Productivity & Safety

Joy Global’s latest innovations in Advanced Shearer Automation (ASA) result in the optimization of longwall production cycles and mining safety, as reported by Joy Global customers in the U.S., Australia, and China. These operational gains, which also contribute to lower operating costs per ton, stem from new shearer steering technologies which allow the programming of fully-automated cutting sequences, including gate-end turnarounds. End user beneﬁts include controlling the shearing machine with a single operator, positioned upwind with less dust and noise exposure; achieving consistent extraction heights and cutting methods between shifts; and allowing the ability to manage shearer speed while easily accessing valuable system performance data at the mine surface.

“JOY ASA productivity features, such as gate-end turnarounds, are the result of very specific software enhancements, new sensor technologies, and the sharing of data between the shearer, powered roof supports, and face conveyor sub systems,” says Jeff Ley, technologist for Joy Global Controls & Automation, who explains that the initial cutting profiles and extraction heights are defined by the use of a software utility called the Graphical Offline Planner. With this configuration, says Ley, the shearer automatically replicates the face profile until seam conditions change – at which time, the operator has the ability to override control of the roof drum which records the changing roof horizon. By utilizing this new roof horizon data, the remainder of the cutting sequence is fully automated per the predefined extraction heights. “This advanced level of automation enables the most efficient cycle times possible, while providing day-to-day consistency,” says Ley.

JOY Landmark Face Alignment System

Joy Global’s license with CSIRO has enabled Joy Global to integrate CSIRO’s Landmark Face Alignment System into the JOY longwall automation platform, further boosting performance capacities by automatically maintaining alignment of the AFC with the coal seam, a production advantage that minimizes downtime by eliminating the need to manually straighten the face.

According to Ley, this alignment is achieved through the use of an inertial navigation system (INS), which is located in the shearer controller, and is used to track the position of the shearer as it traverses the coal face, measuring the face straightness. This information is transmitted to a server where the data is compared to a predetermined model of the coal seam. “The server then issues recommended correc-

tions to the powered roof supports, instructing the system how far to advance on subsequent cycles, which allows proper alignment with the coal seam,” says Ley. JOY shearers equipped with the Landmark Face Alignment System are currently available in the United States and Australia.

Ultimately, JOY longwall automation systems lead the industry by optimizing mining processes and minimizing stress placed upon the operator. It is this safety-ﬁrst focus combined with the next level in productivity that results in optimum performance at lower operating costs for Joy Global customers.

Joy Global Introduces P&H 4800XPC, Its Largest Electric Mining Shovel, at MINExpo 2012

Joy Global Introduces Game Changing P&H 2650CX Hybrid Shovel at MINExpo 2012 Joy Global introduces the P&H 4800XPC, the company’s largest electric mining shovel, with a 135sT payload designed to three pass load 400sT ultra-class haul trucks. Built upon the proven performance of the P&H 4100XPC AC, its design leverages new Adaptive Controls technology (patents pending) with ultra-class machine structures to enable the larger payload and increase eﬃciencies.

Joy Global announces a ﬁrst-of-its-kind generation of loading equipment with the introduction of a new hybrid shovel. The P&H 2650CX is a diesel-electric rope shovel with an articulating hydraulic clamshell attachment designed to deliver a 65-ton payload. The machine will four-pass load 240-ton trucks and be capable of loading up to ultraclass 400 ton trucks.

Engineered to blend the high productivity of electric mining shovels with the mobility and ﬂexibility of hydraulic excavators, the P&H 2650CX is designed to deliver a 15% Total Cost of Ownership reduction when compared to large hydraulic excavators through a combination of reduced fuel consumption, improved availability and decreased maintenance and repair costs. “Fuel consumption will be reduced by as much as 25% through using proven power regeneration from our electric motor and drive systems technology from our P&H Letourneau-Series Wheel Loaders,” stated John Koetz, VP Product Marketing & Engineering of Joy Global Surface Mining. “The drive system used will be approximately 50% more eﬃcient than comparable diesel hydraulic systems.”

In addition to reduced fuel consumption, the P&H 2650CX will decrease the hydraulic routings, onboard ﬂuid and pumps. This substantially improves system level reliability, eﬃciency and maintainability – which can result in increased machine availability over traditional diesel-hydraulic excavators.

“Our new Adaptive Controls are a series of seven advanced control functions that optimize shovel power usage in diﬀerent phases of the dig cycle,” stated Josh Wagner, Director of Product Development. “The goal of this system is to enable the most eﬃcient and productive dig cycle possible, regardless of the severity of the application.” In addition to the Adaptive Controls, the P&H 4800XPC features robust machine structures and systems such as a wider boom and handle, a new dipper with a higher weight to payload ratio and a patent pending modular counterweight system. The company estimates a production increase of as much as 20% over the P&H 4100 XPC AC with the potential to move over 9,000tph in production.
